Historic Manual Stadium

Featured Replies

If you saw the Johnny Unitas highlights during the ABC coverage of the U of L/Miami game that footage was of U of L games played at Manual Stadium.

That stadium has a lot of history. At one time , anybody that was somebody was trying to arrange their schedule so they could play there. I can remember when Trinity even played there a few times a year . (usually on Saturday or Saturday nights)

I can understand the St.X reasoning for opening their own stadium . I just hope that Manual stadium has at least one game there every weekend.

I for one will be happy to see it go to every other weekend that the place has to withstand the onslaught that is football.

Man I love that place.

I still say that sliver of soap stuck to the shower stall in the officials locker room was put there during George Blanda's freshman year. I tried to lather up with it, but it's definitely a permanent fixture.

Being between the lines at Manual Stadium invokes a special feeling. The games I've worked there are among the highlights of my officiating career. I hope it becomes a National Historic Landmark.

Yet another tale of that place that I've never heard. Good stuff.

There's probably more untold stories from that place than Vegas (though I'd probably rather hear the Vegas stories).

Soccer is the culprit that tares the field apart, and I can't understand why they play there when they have all that grass at the school sight. Soccer doesn't even draw 100 people to any given game,so why play at the stadium? If you don't believe me then ask Bobby S. , he will tell you !

i wish the schoolboard appreciated this gem as much as we all do!

Amen. There is something very special about that stadium. You can feel the history each time you walk in. The only bad thing I can say about it is that the field gets very bare around playoff time and they could buy a few new light bulbs.

i think its great, and it is off eastern parkway,,,to me thats kind of cool, i like the walls

I have said that for years. If I ever win the lottery I am going to buy Manual some land and a soccer stadium, not because I care about soccer, but because I hate them playing in Manual Stadium. (Even though Manual Soccer is really really good.)

And Amen to that. I think we our "rotation" on Lights is coming up soon though.

I believe we were on a "Five Year Plan" five or six years ago, maybe longer. Regardless, we are still waiting for the lights. I know Shawnee got new lights and they make a HUGE difference.

The nostalgia at Manual Stadium just touches you when you walk into the stadium and now with some more improvements to the fieldhouse, the history comes to life. Pictures of past teams and players surround the players "watching over" them as they sit on the benches. I still get chills before games as kickoff approaches and you look around the track and see people filing in the stands, band playing, cheerleaders forming the tunnel for the players to run through onto the field. Now that is football! :thumb:

I thought Manual Stadium had a full time groundskeeper that lived onsite? If there are lights burned out, why wouldn't they have been replaced by this person?

I don't think it is a matter of labor H it is a matter of having the lights to replace them.
