I think if you watch close enough, Male was in a 2 deep defense for alot of the 2nd & 3rd downs in the 4th quarter. The problem (I fell) is that one or both safeties do not play enough of this to allow them to cover the deep half. I watched several times as the safety sat on the hash and never played the ball on outside the hash as receivers were running vertical and corner routes and getting substantial yardage. I will agree that Heyman was grossly mismatched but they kept him on #2 who constantly got behind him. Josh Williams' TD catch/run was ridiculous! The TD catch/run across the field towards the Trinity sideline was great as well, just too bad it got called back. I assume it was an illegal formation call since the play was allowed to run. I guess they had 2 illegal formations called late in the game, the other coming right before they tried a field goal that went wide left. Doug Beaumont is a tremendous athlete, he will make a great college football player on either side of the ball. Some had not given him his dues on defense but he has been a great defender for the past 3 years, his offensive performance just overshadows that. I cannot believe that the ball was not in his hands for the final 2 plays. I expected to see him in the shotgun for the last play with .6 seconds left. The clock seemed to stand still as Gainey took the ball and rolled right before cutting upfield to try for the goal line. Can someone give me the number/name of the tackler at the goal line? Great game, in my opinion, much better than the 2002 final because the defenses were MUCH better! I actually left that 2002 game early because I could not stand the obvious lack of defense.

Plenty of defense at the Male-Trinity game. Many big hits and good tackles. There was also a lot of great offense as well, two wide open, spread offenses throwing punches all night. This was a realtively high score but nothing like the Brohm-Bush state final game. Now there was very little defense in that game, both coaches calculating time left to see who could get the ball last to win.

Plain and simple, this format got accomplished what it was "devised" for. Squelch some of the oppositin to certain programs being in the state final every year. The possibility of other teams making it to the 4A final is a lock! It is not ALL about 4A but that is a focal point. I will be very surprised if the 4A game is within 4 touchdowns. No knock on any remaining team, just that the format for 4A DID NOT allow the two best teams to get to the championship game. The games still have to be played and we all know on ANY given night that some strange things CAN happen. I will be the first to admit that I was wrong if any of the remaining teams can keep the trophy from Trinity now.

Is the game still at Male??? I figured Redman and Stewart would make the last minute call to play at Papa John's just to throw the fans into a bigger predicament!!! Getting to PJCS from Male in 5 minutes before kickoff. IT IS ALL A CONSPIRACY!!! :thumb:

The sun is out (a bit chilly though) and the grass is "airing" out. The players are all in school but no one is thinking about English, Chemistry, Calculus, just the game. (OR-maybe they too are thinking about the Mike Glaser post game comments) It looks like a 35-31 Male win to me now! BTW, that is how it happens, a subtle comment about something else then all of sudden..................................BAM!!! Threadjacked again!!!! :laugh:

The first Male-St.X game , Male was more set on stopping the run at first. Notice the times that Beaumont was on or near the tackle when Victor or Deuce carried the ball. As the game progressed and the deep ball to #15 hurt them, Male tried to defend the pass a little better. An obvious emphasis on letting Beaumont help take away the pass and let the rest of the defense stop the run in the second meeting.

I don't believe they were Northern Kentucky officials but I get the point. This season we had Northern Kentucky officials for the St. X game in the first round but previous years they were all from the western part of the state.

Really? Local weather says it will be partly cloudy Friday after possibly snowing on Thursday. High temp for the day about 50-51 degrees.

I had NEVER seen an official in Kentucky High School competition ever us a gauge of any sort until last year when Manual played St. X in the second round. I believe they were Western Kentucky region officials. That is the only time I have EVER seen this at the high school level. Also, after a football is kicked only one time the ball loses its "balance" so to speak and will never be the same in its ability to maintain the same "spiral" as a new ball. The ball a kicker/punter wishes to kick in a game may be checked in as a "game" ball, not a special "kicking" ball. It is possible on those kicking downs (if you have a good ball person) to get that particular ball into the game at that time. It really ends up being a game by game situation as the officials usually handle this situation differently.

If there is a tie in the voting then both players at a position can be 1st team and the next player with votes will be HM. I believe that the WR position had 4 players make 1st team and no HM players because the top 4 vote getters tied and had all the votes. If a player receives a vote he would be HM in some cases. I would guess that the All-District Teams will be announced by this weekend. All-State will be later, I believe in early December.

I know this is not your post but I am referring to all those negative posts aimed at Male for having less than adequate facilities. I will bet the field is "safe" and secure. Any high school facility that you go to has a hard time handling the larger crowds. If you wait until halftime to use the facilities or get concessions you will miss a lot of the 3rd quarter.

This is where I think Trinity can gain a distinct advantage, running the ball with Petrino and Phillips behind that man coverage. Male needs to play very good pass defense but will also be smart to keep a spy on Phillips or Petrino running the ball. Are there enough defenders on the field? Strange how the athleticism can make up for less than perfect execution though.

Old Cardinal Stadium? OUCH!!! That turf was atrocious, would tear the hide off an elephant.:laugh:

They will probably play the game. I have a suggestion, maybe take the tickets away from all the kids who stand on the track and do not even watch the game. Resell the tickets to all the people who will not be allowed in the gate because Male will do such a terrible job in handling the game. That will solve the problem to some's satisfaction. :confused:

All this just kills me!:madman: Who determines "proper manner"? And who exactly is the resident expert in putting games like this on? I would assume if it is NOT up to YOUR standards then Male should NEVER be allowed to host a home playoff game again. Talk about a cavalier attitude. I think if nothing else, the Male team (Seniors especially) should have the satisfaction of playing ONE LAST game in their stadium. That alone is reason enough NOT to move the game. What if the teams in question were Larue County at Mercer County and they expected standing room only numbers, would they too be expected to move the game to PJCS?.......NO! Just because it is here and possibly available does not mean Male should move the game there. To assume they are "selfish" is ridiculous because you do not agree with their decision.

Is this due to field availability or lights?

Seems to me that a lot of the early posters were siding with Trinity in this game. Now the majority seems to be swinging towards Male. I personally think that Male should be a a 4-7 point winner. Thinking 31-27 or 35-28, Male. BUT...the more Trinity presses the defense with stretching the field, the more tired the defenders become. Watching Male for many years I think the players tend to relax on defense and save whatever they can for offense. Not a very sound approach to playing a Trinity. The bunch formations, "rubs", and motion will figure into a few wide open opportunities for Trinity. Will that be enough? I am betting that the Trinity defense will have their share of problems containg Gainey, tackling Beaumont and finding Josh Williams as he gets open while Gainey scrambles. While Male does play a (physical at times) man to man defense, the only real "HOLD" I saw friday was a St. X defender holding a Male receiver and NOT getting called for it. I also think Heyman will have to play as well in the pass defense this week as he did last week. If he is mismatched with a TE who can get free or a fast receiver, that may haunt Male as well.

Sometimes change is ...."refreshing". Makes you realize how things can be different and not always good or bad, just "different". Still must say it was lame excuse for the change, saving travel in early rounds. The travel now will more than offset any travel saved in round 1 & 2.

The same for public school supporters. Male-Manual are huge rivals but I will give you a hint to which side I sat on Friday at the St.X -Male game.:dancingpa I am the one in the middle row to the left.

Let them find a seat (or a place on the fence) at Maxwell field. Male's home game and would be very surprised if they even considered moving it to Papa John's. The atmosphere there friday was hard to beat and played well into Male's favor. I would bet that Redman could care less how many Trinity fans are flying in from wherever to watch T.

That one point loss to Male in the first meeting "may" have fooled some into thinking the playoff game would be close. I was NOT one of those drinking the green Kool-Aid. I predicted a 3 TD win by Male and felt that was conservative. Again, St.X is tough to beat with their post season experience but they were fighting an uphill battle versus Male. Very much a "mismatch" in several areas. I would not say they EVER got "weaker" as the year unfolded, just maybe not as much improvement as the year developed. Sometimes the talent is there, just young and needing time to improve. this season seems to be the season that they need another year before the youth develops to the stage they need to contend for the title. By the way, does anybody know the status of Androla. I believe he was helped off the field and looked like he was hurt pretty bad. Just curious.

I will have to go with Ryle in this game as well. Raiders win 28-13.

Really? I think you missed my point in regards to IAmAFan's comment that they are enjoying the playoff format this season. This format does allow a team like Ryle to play Meade this week instead of Trinity. This is NO knock on Meade County but I am sure that Ryle is much happier to play Meade County. Their prospects of advancing are much greater. I don't think anyone will be surprised if the 4A state championship game is similar to the Scott Co. vs. St.X game from 2 years back.
