Where's the Defense ?!?

Look over all these scores tonight...

 

Have you guys ever seen such overall HIGH scoring Regional Championship games among all the classes before ?!?

 

Is this an indicator of how the high school game is changing ?

 

Are we beginning to see less emphasis on fundamental defensive football ?!?

Seriously, the basics of defense have a lot to do with our regional championship. Rockcastle scored late on a long pass (despite 5 INTs I still thing our best pass defense is the blitz), but tonight was a great example of basic bend and don't break defense.

 

Still, a whole lot of shootouts tonight, none more obvious than LexCath and Cov Cath, which is surprising.

If you think there was no defense played in the Trinity Male game you're nuts. These were two very good offenses and two defenses that would shut down 99% of the teams in the state.

I didn't see the "less emphasis on defensive football" over at Danville by Sam Harp and Jerry Perry tonight.

Plenty of defense at the Male-Trinity game. Many big hits and good tackles. There was also a lot of great offense as well, two wide open, spread offenses throwing punches all night. This was a realtively high score but nothing like the Brohm-Bush state final game. Now there was very little defense in that game, both coaches calculating time left to see who could get the ball last to win.

Oh, that's original. Mercer is a 2A school.

 

Next year Mercer will be 5A and Larue will be 4A. Mercer has 89 more boys in their school system then Larue does, and has 10 less than Western.

Big scores on the scoreboard in the NCC vs. Raceland game. But also some great defense from both teams. The Rams defended NCC's running game well and NCC took on the air attack of the Rams.
