Unless some players left from early in the JV season, I saw plenty of speed at the skill positions, size in both lines and size and speed at LB and RB. I am waiting for a response from someone in Rocknation.

It couldn't look any worse could it? Maybe with these statistics to help, we can get Trinity, St. X and Male to schedule their JVs to play Manual on fridays next season. :laugh:

With a base like T has to pull new starters from? Anyone who watched the T junior varsity this year knows you are sandbagging. :laugh:

It will be interesting, to say the least, to see which sophomores and juniors will step up and fill these positions. This is pretty much what every team has to have happen every year to compete. Those players that got some varsity snaps this season should be fine and some of the "surprises" you get every off season will help fill all the needs. A little more speed and toughness, a lot more teamwork and everything works out fine. One thing the group of juniors and sophomores DO NOT lack is good work ethic.

I would love to have a player such as Zoeller step up to take over at QB. Looks like X will be just fine in that department. Does not hurt to have Vic in the backfield to hand the ball to and lighten the load for a new starter at QB early on. :sssh:

Absolutely the best argument I have heard for ANYONE. Beaumont gets it done on both sides of the ball and special teams . He puts up impressive numbers all the time against everybody. I would like to know what the stats are for his worst performance. I would bet they are also impressive. If you have the opportunity to see him play in HS you ought to make it a point to watch. I have seen the young man play since he was in 5th or 6th grade, and unfortunately have always been on the opposing side of the field. He can make alot of plays to hurt you.

I can agree with this because some coaches leave starters in longer when blowing out another team, some stats get padded by doing this. A lot of extra yards as well as tackles. On the stat topic I have seen some teams taking stats on paper or no stats at all. Others award more tackles than actual offensive plays run, do not subtract plays or yardage on plays that were penalized, etc. What I am saying is that stats do not always tell the accurate story either way.

How ironic then that Bob Beatty was coach of the year his first season at the healm of a STOCKED cupboard. :laugh:

Butler High School had a freshman RB that was big and fast. I am fairly sure he was a freshman. Anyone know his name?

What was the outcome of that particular play, I mean I saw the stick moved but never saw whether the ball was spotted ahead for the first down or not. Anyway, I can not believe that the chain crew member holding the stick knew nothing happened, also what about the Head Linesman and Line Judge?

I coached several years for a optimist teams and we always had to fill out a background information sheet and I believe they did actually follow through with some checks. Even though alot of people knew me, I can see where some others may question a background or two.

That kind of surprises me, but I would think that at some of the programs there would be more than a couple interested parties per coaching position. Am I wrong in thinking this? I vaguely remember a story about one particular program actually searching for a coach, I cannot remember the school though.

Before we finish we may come to the reason why there are so many soccer teams and baseball teams and we have a hard time attracting kids to field football teams. I do know even at the high school level there are a number of kids that come out to play and the first time they get injured, mom or dad makes them quit. There are also a lot of kids that come out because it make them look more well rounded if they put "football" on their college applications.

Go to an optimist game and you will see kids from several different middle schools. Heck, I had to pick kids up and take them home before. There are not enough kids interested to field teams for individual middle schools or even consolidated 2-3 schools. If these kids looked up to a neighborhood kid that was already playing for a neighborhood school then maybe that would be different. This luxury of neighborhood schools got thrown out with the actions of the mid 70's.

Public schools could pick up a kid in the hall that never played organized team basketball and he could play for most HS teams. I am talking about a kid that played regularly at the park or schoolyard. Try that with a football player. I like to think football IS the ultimate TEAM sport because of this. This comment will probably draw some remarks from soccer and baseball enthusiasts but that is my opinion.

Not JUST the numbers but the NUMBERS still play a VERY major part. The quality and football background of the majority is still huge though.

Talk about this getting started to boost basketball programs and you perk up alot of ears. :laugh:

Could you imagine the teams some of the public schools could have if the top 5-6 players off a Hikes Point team or a Highview team did not scatter and go to 5-6 different high schools? That could be scary.

That would be a great place to start. Keep in mind the tradition and backing from PARENTS that help keep things going. Then of course you need quality coaching. I am sure there are guidelines that the CSAA uses to approve a coach. I can only imagine what kind of hoops a prospective coach would have to jump through to get invovled with a public school program. Some years back the publics tried to establish a middle school feeder system but ran into alot of obstacles, coaches being a major hurdle.
