Watching Belfry play Ironton and not seeing SC play- - - - this game will be won in a shoot out, Whoever scores last in OT will take it. Just a prediction and I hope you guys get us again at home this year. See ya and good luck to both teams.

It makes it tough when a AAA school gets beat by a AA school doesnt it. So when should we start refusing to play all AAA schools since we are scared of playing quality teams. Thats a bunch of crap ! Playing quality teams is blessing when you are forced to play 7 of your 10 games in district. Russell does not measure itself against Ironton like some do we look at a quality school like Ashland to play. Always tough, always a rivalry and always a great game. The fans are good to us and we enjoy the tradition of playing each other. PLaying Ashland is a measuring stick and you should be PROUD of your tradition at Ashland. Dont complain about other schools not playing Ironton, take pride in the fact that other schools look at Ashland as their test. That to me as a TOMCAT is the sign of tradition and respect.

Russell Red Devils RELOAD again for next year. Our top back is a junior, Kasey- 34 TDs this year, Jacob Sizemore- Junior. What will be the most intersting IMO will be the strength of our line for next year. We had some sophomores play this year and start. We will have a kid returning to Russell next year also. His parents had moved to Columbus for a job but his Dad played at Russell and they will be moving back home. I have seen this kid and he will be a blessing next year as a SOPHOMORE. A.J. Cordle will be a wonderful addition next year/ I think he runs a 4.4 or 4.5 as a freshman. Cant remember. Tyler Jones will be a junior next year. This kid has great plays this year and has been a game breaker also. Blocked punt against Ashland for a TD. Blocked a couple of punts this year. Starts at Corner on defense as a sophomore. He is a solid kid with a heart the size of a truck. Oh yea he hits like one too. It is hard to get eveyone in but with the program we have at Russell, kids step up every year ans keep us strong. Good luck to all teams next year and hope that your kids keep up the good workand dedication in school.

at last count it would appear that the fan total will be around 850 traveling this weekend. With the parents of the kids, boosters and other fans we have played in our district so far. I know that it is strange but I did the same when Ashland won state. I traveled to watch them play. Okay allyou EK sports fans if you dont have anything to do this Friday, come out and support high school football. Cheer for the Devils if ya like too. It will be a good game. Hey everyone bring those noise makers to the game, Normans Long horn and that CAMO Moose caller thing. See ya tomorrow at the game.

Keep it at the MUDDY field, we like the down to earth smell since we are Devils it is kinda Heavenly to us. I am hoping that we turn in mass this Friday. If the stadium only holds 2900. I would say that we would bring about 700 to the game if not more. I can remember Fleming Co last year on the final reg. season game. IT WAS PACKED. We had as many there as we did there.

Russell Red Devils would love to play higher teams, it just makes the team better. We currently have 8 teams in our district. Not much room to pick up. Yes the attendance is a factor too. There were over 1100 kids in our 9-12 grades when I went to school. Now there is 635 in 9-12. CSX went down in employees, Armco Steel sold to Kawasaki, and Ashland Oil moved there headquarters to Ohio. Drastic drop in kids coming thru the school system now and it shows.

I have seen Belfry play this year, if they squeek by SC, The rematch will be interesting. I wish you guys the best.

I will have to pick the Devils in this one too. Not because I am a Russell fan but because Newport has no idea what they are getting ready to face. It is hard to stop a team you spend all week learning the wing-T for it to be changed to the power I on Friday. Well it really doesnt matter what formation Ivan runs, he will run it until you stop it. He has done that from the beginning of time and it continues to work. Devils 42 Newport 24 alot of INT in this game. I see Michael Horn and Kasey having 3-4 INT on Friday, this is of course if the QB can get the ball off. Defense is clicking and the O is nothing but POWER. When is wagon train leaving the High School???????

Lets see..... excuses for tonights scores. 45 yards in penaltys on 3 plays. First- the ball was tipped and went over the receivers head, so you can have contact. If you are running down the sidelines and you get tackled and land out of bounds, thats not a late hit out of bounds if you do not signal the clock to stop running. Since the clock is running you were not out of bounds. Pass interference call in the end zone. The defender was hit by the pass but the def. back never touched the other player. Man I could go on Blue Blazer. From where I was standing in the end zone I did not see any contact from the defense. There was at least a yard seperation between them.

Yea i think we threw 3 times and 2 TDS, not a bad ratio for the night. AND yea I will say it, I heard that the crew was from Pikeville tonight.

where is the closest hotel at Newport. Looking for about 2000 fans coming down this week and need to plan early. Good job Newport, but of course we wanted EAST to win so we could stay home. East is tough and we loved that they gave you guys a good game. Russell has alot of respect for teams in our district. We rooooot for all of them except when we play them.

By looking at having 5 teams in a district would allow Russell Red Devils -AA to pick up better competition during the regular season. We compete with 8 teams in our district. That leaves us with 3 open dates to pick up. We pick up Greenup-AAA, Ashland-AAA, and Boyd Co.-AAA. 7 mandated district games+ 3 picks. I have not seen the breakdown where Russell would fall. But this would be interesting to see us play up.

With the comment on the fans at Russell earlier in the list- We have fans that cheer, we have fans that sit and watch with their mouths closed. Then there are those guys who stand behind us on the landing and yell their heads off. Those fans are DEVILS all the way. They are there every week and on the road too. There is no telling what they will bring in or what they will cheer with. Last year they had signs with MEKO-Suave on them. They are nuts. They are so loud at times that we cant hear the game going on.

Actualy it is 8 plays total and that is it.

in regards to the Boyd post: Look at the asst. coaches at Boyd.... see why the Devils had a time against them. If you plan for the Devils all year and dont care about beating anyone else except The Devils..... well, you win against the Devils and then loose every game from there on out. The games before hand dont mean crap if you pplay teams that dress 17 kids. Granted Boyd is BIG rotate alot of fresh kids in to keep you hoppin', but, I again go to the coaching staff and what THEY know. Devils 42 Scotties 14 Loosing to Boyd was a gift from the Gods, Russell will not forget.

The word is that Mercer is HUGE, D-1 size on the line. Ivan said last night that they were big and they love to run. I dont think they have seen a SWARM defense like Russell has. YES and depth. When you play everyone on the sidelines all year anyone can come in and play. Thats what is good about Russell. The youngins' get alot of playing time. The game should be good this week, Russell 35- Mercer County 14.
