I watched live, my son watched on i high. What is the extent on homering, how do you judge that? When things are called on one end and let go on the other end that justifies homering. Refs called 8 offensive fouls on SW in the game with NCC, all of them when SW was making a run. How many games have you seen when 8 offensive fouls were called total? I don't blame SW coach for complaining, IMO it was obvious the N KY teams got the breaks. Everyone sees the game differently and you are entitled to your opinion as I am mine. We will just have to agree to disagree.

Yes, I saw the games. One reason the refs would be biased is they have to call for those home town coaches all season long, the out of towners they may never call for again, who would you want to please most, your neighbor or someone you don't even know and don't care to make mad, because they can't scratch you. There were a couple of refs who done a decent job but for the most part, local teams got the breaks, especially in the Boone/SW game. Boones coach must have a lot of power up there with the officials, she influenced most of the calls that game. Guess it does depend on what lens you're looking through. Some fans from the other local schools were commenting on how the game was called in Boones favor. Even the announcers on I-high were talking about it.

Southwestern has no seniors and 1 junior. They start 4 sophomores and a freshman, 1st two subs are freshman and 8th grader. They will be tough to handle in coming years. Also, just a question, for anyone who was at tourney. Was the officiating in the Boone/ SW game as one sided as it looked on the computer? The announcers seemed to think SW got the shaft in that game.

Officiating was terrible. The out of town teams got a raw deal in most every game. Even some of the locals were talking about it. The announcers in the SW/Boone game were commenting on how biased it was for Boone Co. Nice location, well run tournament, nice people at Connor, but referees were definitely homers.

What do you know about Lewis Co. PRP and Southwestern. I have heard Southwestern is very young, but can really play. checking last years roster it looks they started 4 freshmen and an 8th grader on varsity and won 21 games in a very tough 12th region. PRP is usually very athletic and highly competitive. Don't know much about Lewis Co. I know the NKY teams will be very competitive as well. I agree with you, should be a great tourney.

Who will be the favorite to win this tournament? Looks like a very good field. Does anyone know the brackets yet?

In the 12th region it has to be Tim Rice of Southwestern. After losing Fothergill and Pierce to graduation last year (38 points and 20 rebounds) everyone thought SW would be way down this year. At the present time, they are 16-5 while starting 3 freshmen and an 8th grader every game this year. They only have 1 senior, 0 juniors, and 1 sophomore on entire roster. Fantastic job of bringing this team together.

Seen this thread on the boys forum. Thought it might be an interesting topic. Who are some of the mid season coaches of the year in the 16 regions?

Totally agree. What difference does it make if the teams are top 20 or bottom 20? Does MC4 think that higher rankings rate better officials. Please keep into context that this was a scrimmage and the purpose is for teams to practice against someone other than their own team. Win or lose, it doesn't count for anything other than evaluating your team against an opponent. Also, great opportunity for younger officials to get some exposure in a less stressful situation and also be evaluated to see if they have what it takes to earn a few varsity games in the future. Madison Central behaved as though a regional title was at stake. Also, heard that MC coach recieved a technical in their first scrimmage. Any truth to that? If that is true, maybe anger management classes could be an option. To quote Alan Iverson, "Practice, its only practice" and so on.

She was called for a flagrant foul with an elbow to the chin on Fox. She was thrown out and according to khsaa rules will have to sit out 2 games. Not sure if any penalty to Cooksey, but there should be. The play was caught on film and it was obvious that the elbow was malicious. I agree the officiating was not the greatest I've ever seen, but this call was correct, ask Cooksey, he seen the film. All teams participating knew, as they have in the past that the 12th region officials association use this panorama to train younger officials. Hats off to this young man, he may have not gotton all calls right, but he nailed this one right on the spot.

Anyone know of any coaching jobs that are or may be open in these regions? I have heard some rumors, but don't like to comment until I know for sure.

8-10 jobs in one region, WOW. Where might these jobs be? I've heard a couple of rumors. Shelby Valley and Prestonsburg, who are the others?

Geographically speaking, if Somerset Christian fields a team for KHSAA competition. the 47th district should be Pulaski Co., Somerset Christian, Somerset and Southwestern. These 4 schools are all separated by about 5 miles. There are not 4 schools in the state this close to each other. Why put them in separate districts?

I watched both of these games. I don't know what you consider smashing, but the Lin/SW game was 59-44 final. SW led the 1st quarter, was down by 4 or 5 at halftime, was within 5-7 most of third quarter, Lincoln then pulled away late. Better game than final score indicates. In the Mer/RC game, Rock had a big lead for most of the game, about 24 at one time until Mercer made a late run to lose by 7 points. You must not have been at these games or you would not have made these observations. One thing I do agree with is Lin/Casey will be a war and SW/EJ will be a very good game as well. After the dust clears I feel it will be a Rock/Lincoln final, with Rock winning a close one.

Southwestern starts 2 seventh graders on the varsity and the first sub is a 7th grader Their record is 16-7 and they have started every game. Adison Corder is ranked in the top ten 3 point shooters on KHSAA stat report, Destiny Molden is the other starter and Brittany Combs plays about half of every varsity game. SW has 3 seventh graders on the floor a lot of time. Does anyone know of any other team that is this young on the varsity level?

How many points are they averaging? Where do you find state scoring rankings? Who are #s 1, 2, and 3?

Just curious, could someone compile an alltime winningest coach list of say about top 20 or so. I was interested in seeing where coaches like John Bill Trivette, Junior Newsome, Johnny Martin, Craynor Slone and Bill Mike Runyon would rank.

Monticello is legit. This should be very good game. Monticello will surprise some teams this year.

Salyers is enrolled and attending classes at Southwestern. She will play for the lady warriors this season and graduate with her class in May.

Here is a scenario that should please everyone, regardless of # of teams in region. Eliminate the district tournaments altogether. All teams in a region play each other once during the season, alternating home and away from year to year. Seed the teams according to regional records from 1 to 16 and play the regional tournament as the NCAA does. If a region has more than 16 teams have a play in game to see who gets #16 seed. This way your top 2 teams will be seeded opposite each other every year. What would be the problem with this, other than it ties up 15 games on your schedule. That still leaves a team 8 dates to play tournaments or rival games with other regions. This would be entirely fair for every region and a team would have to win 4 games to advance to state tournament. Great idea, I should get a patten on this before the khsaa steals my idea.

Did you get this info from a reliable source? When will this be announced to the public? I heard that interviews were to start next monday, after the 30 days were up. If this is true, I would be totally surprised, I thought they would go with someone with head coaching experience. Maybe their hands were tied with lack of teaching positions. After talking with some of the parents of players, most of them mentioned Tim Rice of Southwestern as the frontrunner. Was he ever contacted or just not interested or were there no teaching positions?
