Region Coach of the Year

Featured Replies

Seen this thread on the boys forum. Thought it might be an interesting topic. Who are some of the mid season coaches of the year in the 16 regions?

9th Region coach of the year could be a real discussion! Also, these are in no particular order.

Coach Lavendusky for Notre Dame. She has a nice group of girls and she is finding herself with only one 5 point loss to Boone Co.

Coach Fooke Boone Co. She has the Lady Rebels out to a 19-1 start and knocking on the door of that top 5 spot in the State.

Coach Oliverio Ryle. She has had to deal with some injury issues what with Cheesman and Crittendon and she also playing against some tough competition still rocking a 17-3 record.

Coach Richey Highlands. Dealt with a devastaing hit when she lost her starting PG to a torn ACL but she has a nice cast of young girls and even though the record doesnt refelct how good this team is or in my opinion will be in the future she deserves some recognition for the job shes doing this year.

Coach Dawn Newport Central Catholic. Has his girls off to an 11-4 record with close losses to Boone Co and Conner. Has his girls once again going to the All A classic Championship

Coach Stamm Conner. He has done some good things at Conner this year. Hes got his girls at 16-4 with 2 regional losses to Ryle and Highlands. By that record it means that 3 of the top 4 teams in the 9th Region are in the 33rd District which is going to make for an interesting tourney at years end.

So thats at least my opinion of the 9th Region. Chaulk full of great coaching doing great things going to be interesting to see who all makes it to Regional tourney and who comes out of it.

As of right now, Brossart's coach for the 10th.

Aww, come on...not Brossart :ohbrother:

I'm kidding. My vote would go there as well.

11th Region should be Joey Thacker of Franklin County.

I might be biased, but South Oldham's Frank Wright in the 8th has my vote. He has South playing really well.

I think I would have to go with the coach of one the teams to beat him. Walton's Mark Clinkenbeard at this point should be the coach of the year in the 8th. New coach this year to a team that lost it's leading scorer from last year. They have played an extemely tough schedule and are playing very well right now.

I think that Coach Wright is a class act and a very good coach. He is doing a great job this year and does have SO playing really well. However, there's alot of ball left to be played and I will have to wait to see how things pan out before I can make a decision. In addition to Coach Wright, I think Coach Clinkenbeard (WV) is doing a great job in his first year at the helm and Coach Kays (Anderson) is doing another fine job.

At this point in the 8th, a case could be made for Wright, Clinkenbeard and Kays, but it is definitely too early. The deciding factor may/will come down to who comes out on top in the 8th region tournament.

Coach and Player of the Year are both voted on prior to the region tournament-so the outcome does not affect the winner. It should but it does not.

I wondered that when I made that post. I agree, it should count. The tournament can be the capstone to your season and all your hard work. Seems like it could be a great measuring stick as to how far a team has come, and the job a coach has done.

That being said, since the tournament will not matter, then I'm going with Coach Clinkenbeard at WV. Considering the success WV has had after losing the prior seasons leading scorer (Dixon) to graduation, the fact that Clinkenbeard is a first year coach implementing a little different style than the prior coach, and that WV has clearly outperformed the expectation of most preseason poll makers, the edge goes to him.

I would say there a few choices in the 16th: Tackett from Rowan, Orem from Fleming, Ashland's coach, Easterling from East.

I'd certainly hope Josh Feldmann would win in the 10th. He has taken a team with no seniors and mostly to an 18-3 record, 4-0 in the District, Top seed in the District, a 3-1 record in the Owensboro Christmas Tourney, the 10th Region All "A" Championship and a win in the All "A" State so far. He won the Crosstown Shootout beating Campbell Co. by 11 and has numerous quality wins including Newport Central Catholic, Mason Co. and others. Based on the schedule he is looking at 25 win or more maybe. I think Coach of the YEAR should be just that who does the best job for the whole season not just someone who gets a good draw and gets hot for a week. Basketball is a long haul and a good coach sustains it

Coach Feldman certainly has done a remarkable job!

In the 12th region it has to be Tim Rice of Southwestern. After losing Fothergill and Pierce to graduation last year (38 points and 20 rebounds) everyone thought SW would be way down this year. At the present time, they are 16-5 while starting 3 freshmen and an 8th grader every game this year. They only have 1 senior, 0 juniors, and 1 sophomore on entire roster. Fantastic job of bringing this team together.
