Highlight Videos
I have done individual and team highlights for the past 7 years. For some I have mass mailed, for others they wanted to do that themselves, I have created trifold brochures on some players, resumes on others. I am proud to say that nearly every kid I have worked with has been offered or signed on to play college ball (many various sports) somewhere. Everything from D1, D2, NAIA and some chose D3 even with other athletic offers on the table as they thought it was academically a better fit for them. Many have signed and played ball in state and some out of state (FL, SC, TN etc). Nearly every coach I have worked with is very cooperative as it is taking a load off of them and they want to see their kids get that opportunity. They can then speak to the college coach and send full game videos upon request. I have had some kids offered and signed just from their videos, but some coaches also like to see full highlight videos. This goes for football, basketball, soccer, softball, etc. I have started putting some of the highlight videos on my YouTube channel and emailing the link to college coaches, the HS coaches and the parents/player. This allows them to email any coach they want the link. Like Slinging Sammy said, this is MUCH more cost effective and the player can attach their information (stats, sports specific measurements/times/weights, GPA, ACT score, honors and awards, etc). I am very pleased when a college coach contacts me and comments on the video and how it was exactly what they needed to see. The key to me is highlighting / spotshadowing / pointing to the player before the play begins so they know exactly who they are looking at every play. It allows them to see the player for the entire play and not just find them when they have ball, etc. It takes more time, but based on the collegiate coaches' responses I have seen, it is well worth the time and effort. I have had some tell me that college coaches don't like highlight videos because ANYONE can have a good highlight video. I disagree whole heartedly. You can't have a highlight video if you don't make plays that belong on one, plain and simple.

Screaming parent....
Amen. I have seen ADs at the high school level speak to out of control parents and advise them 'If you don't stop, you will have to leave.' If various officials at schools and leagues would step up and take this kind of action, these types of things would be fewer and further between. I have seen some coaches take this kind of action and have a very calm talk with the parent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But either way, the problem isn't the kid, it is the parent. I am with you 110%, don't penalize the kid because the parent is an idiot!

Caleb Watkins #42 Full Season Senior Highlight Video
Watkins is a very good football player. Tough kid as well. Wofford is a GREAT fit for him. A very good program is getting a very good player!!

Suggestions for the new commissioner of the KHSAA
I am MUCH more okay with playing up than playing down. The only way I would agree with allowing playing down is in the case of new teams. (EG. A 3A school starts a football program for the first time. Let them play down until they build their program up to be able to compete at the higher level.) I don't like the unlimited transfer of student athletes. How can anyone build a program if kids are allowed to transfer anytime they have a whim.

South Laurel 56 Landstown, VA 55
Hasn't grown much, but can still jump out of the gym. I would say about 5'10" is a good estimate.

Conner 71 North Laurel 52
They haven't had any size for several years now. Seidel was a 6'5" shooting guard who had to play all 5 positions at some point and was the best player at all those positions. They have had a hard time replacing him and they have had no size at NL since Fields transferred to SL when Woods was the coach at NL. They can find the 6'4" strong kid, but rarely have they had any real basketball skills. They were football players playing basketball.

South Laurel 91 Knox Central 57
How did KC do against North Laurel? I haven't seen any of these scores posted on here since the GRC loss to start the season.

KY/TN Border Bowl
IMHO, that is a pretty good bargain. I would like to see more corporate sponsors to help offset this cost for the kids who could play if they could afford it. But these games don't get put on for free.

Why Do VBallers Wear Those Shorts?
My daughter plays HS volleyball and I hate the shorts. The school she plays for is much more conservative than many of the teams they played against (many literally looked like shorts from Hooters), but they are still way too short and way too tight IMHO.

Man, ... it is looking at Rex with a wig.

KY/TN Border Bowl
Sorry if it had your name. It definitely was not you who made the quote. Looks like someone fixed it!

KY/TN Border Bowl
This is the ONLY REAL KY vs TN all star football game is one that is actually played. The other was done away with and unless they come back with it again, this is it. Picking up more kids from various regions each year. The game includes players from KY playing players from TN. I haven't seen any limitations on what areas of the state players can be nominated from, and it is growing. I guess whomever killed the original didn't realize that the rivalry just wouldn't die.

KY/TN Border Bowl
Posting negative things about a teenager is something I do have an issue with and that will never change. Now if I had only 1 kid I could pick from Garrard County, it would be Tyler Ray. He just makes plays and was the District POY. But I don't think there are any limits per school. I could be wrong. But that is a kid I would LOVE to see on that team.

13th Region Favorites
Clay County MUST be the favorite. No way around it, the Lady Tigers are solid. South Laurel, as always, will be tough. They have to be in the discussion year in and year out. Harlan should be tough, but just lost to North Laurel (at Harlan). North Laurel is 7-0 and with the 53-51 win over Harlan, are where Coach Bowling thought they would be. North Laurel may be a darkhorse, but they are looking pretty good so far.

KY/TN Border Bowl
:ohbrother: Classy post. And I have seen film on him and would let him play for me any day of the week.

KY/TN Border Bowl
I believe that John Shoemaker, OL/DL from Garrard County has also been selected to play on this team. As far as it being an EKY vs ETN rivalry, that is what is was set up to be, ... but both teams want to win and it is indeed morphing into another Kentucky vs Tennessee all star game. That's okay by me.

Collinsworth offered by Notre Dame...
On the field, I agree that UK has been better than ND the past few years. BUT, ND has had some top notch recruiting classes and have talent, ... Weis just couldn't seem to get it out of them, especially on the defensive side of the ball. IMHO, Kelly will have immediate success at ND. If they are still committed to a fairly weak schedule, I think he will get more out of all that talent and thereby attract more of it.

13th Region Tournament goes to The Arena
I do agree with that stipulation. I have seen restrooms at ball games after kids have either washed up and put on their paint, and they were a mess. I understand this one 100%. I still enjoy seeing the kids paint themselves up, but understand why the Arena wouldn't want this and cannot blame them. Same with the confetti.

Shake-up at KHSAA?
I agree. And having a football guy in charge could be a good thing IMHO.
-
Collinsworth offered by Notre Dame...
True. The talent is there. However, the chance to play sooner would be at UK over ND. I do think this really hurts the Cats' chances to land him, but can still hold out hope.

Collinsworth offered by Notre Dame...
If he hasn't, I am sure he would like to visit. But if in his heart he has ever had a desire to play there, it would be hard to turn down. I hope to see him at UK, ... but with this offer, that hope dims IMHO.

13th Region Tournament goes to The Arena
I had a little more explained to me today. Apparently it is a 13th region rule about the dance teams. The painting was excluded by the Arena because of the mess many often make in the area (eg. restrooms, lobbies, etc) when painting themselves up, etc. The bands will be allowed in which I assume had to be a must. However, I still don't agree with the signs not being allowed in. I also understand that the Laurel County school board did not request that the vote be a no. The principals were allowed to vote what they believed would be best. And honestly, it was going to pass with or without a vote from either of the Laurel County high schools. I really hope this works out. The Arena is a GREAT facility, but I just am torn about losing some of the atmosphere you get in the high school gyms. I hope that doesn't get lost in the mix.

Questioning the AP
We have this same thread at the same time every year. There will NEVER be an all state team where some very deserving kids aren't left off. It is a shame, but no matter the criteria or who votes, there will be disagreements.

Questioning the AP
They must have meant DE or considered him an outside LB. That's all I can figure. Aaron had a very good 2 seasons for the Hounds. Would LOVE to have seen just how good he could have been playing all 4 years.
