13th Region Tournament goes to The Arena

Featured Replies

After getting voted down today, 11-6, then seeing another proposal get voted down 13-4, the 17 schools finally decided to vote 13-4 in favor of having the Arena host the boys and girls 13th Region Tourney for the next four years. But of course, they (the 13th Region Policy Board) can have a vote after the first year and change to another proposal, but you would have to have to get the 66 percent vote approval.

From what I understand there will be risers (I guess stands) put down on the floor for floor seating and cost of single night tickets are 9 dollars. 1,500 hundred bucks is guaranteed to each school in the 13th Region, while the other proposal would have guaranteed something like 400 bucks.

Bottom line, the small schools got to have their say as well, and I like the fact it was voted in.

This should be good for the fans as well no headache waiting in line outside in the cold.:thumb:

Great news. I really like the idea. Congrats to the schools for coming together. It is a win situation for all sides IMO.

How can we find out who the 4 were that voted against this proposal? Would be interested in knowing how the vote was broken down. I disagree with it but I do hope it doesn't turn out to be a I TOLD YOU SO!

Well, it was six schools that voted no at first then four. Read The Times-Tribune tomorrow and I'll have them listed or pm me.

I totally agree with you.:thumb:

One of the worst mistakes schools have made lately. I have never felt more distracted at a ballgame as the Hardwood Classic. The ticket prices are way too high for the kids to support their teams not to mention the parents of ball players. What about the parents that have several members in the family that want to attend everygame? The Arena has the worst consessions and is totally over priced. Did anyone consider the unemployment in the area? IMO...Greed had everything to do with the vote WAY TO GO.

Good. Very Good! Sounds like the vast majority of those who voted, used some common sense.

SAD to see the 13th moved from the individual high schools. This will take some of the tradition out of the games. This will also give Corbin a big up on other teams in the 13th for the next four years.

Gone is the tradition of inadequate parking, clearing the gym and then standing in line to see if you get to buy a ticket for the next game, sitting with someones knees in your back, lack of restrooms, poor ventilation, longer drives, lack of good dining choices before and after games, etc...

I agree!

I won't miss it at some of the schools, but Harlan County should get a chance to host it.

Greed had everything to do with it? So, what you're saying is that the small schools finally get a share of what everyone else who can host it already gets?

How are the ticket prices to high? It's the same amount for two games $9 compared to the split session you have to pay for. It all adds up. Good grief.:ohbrother:

Yeah, Corbin is going to have a HUGE edge playing at a place that everyone else will be able to play at, huh?:laugh:
