I'm not sure the court will give Corbin an advantage but I think lack of travel and pre-game prep as if a home game will be an advantage.

Regardless of whether Corbin gets to practice on the floor or not, I believe it is a huge advantage to always be able to play the regional tournament withing walking distance of one's house.

 

I also believe that consistantly using a :laugh: to belittle another's opinion is rude.

SAD to see the 13th moved from the individual high schools. This will take some of the tradition out of the games. This will also give Corbin a big up on other teams in the 13th for the next four years.

 

Don't see how this will give Corbin the edge. I am glad that it went there great place to watch a game.

If they can get the fans closer to the action then I think it will be good for the region. If things stay the way they where at the Hardwood Classic then attendence will fall. But I guess we will have to wait and see how they fix things.

After getting voted down today, 11-6, then seeing another proposal get voted down 13-4, the 17 schools finally decided to vote 13-4 in favor of having the Arena host the boys and girls 13th Region Tourney for the next four years. But of course, they (the 13th Region Policy Board) can have a vote after the first year and change to another proposal, but you would have to have to get the 66 percent vote approval.

 

From what I understand there will be risers (I guess stands) put down on the floor for floor seating and cost of single night tickets are 9 dollars. 1,500 hundred bucks is guaranteed to each school in the 13th Region, while the other proposal would have guaranteed something like 400 bucks.

 

Bottom line, the small schools got to have their say as well, and I like the fact it was voted in.

What about what this has done to all the small buisnesses across SE KY. who have donated year after year to the 13 region tournment. They get very few chances to get any kind of small return back from the tournment except when it is held in their community. I can't believe school officials are so lazy that they can't at least work once every few years to host a tournment to give back to small business in their community who have supported them over the years. School officials (state workers) we all don't get teacher retirment and and 40 hour work weeks, we the small businesses in SE KY. have to reley on these type of events when they come around. If someone has not explained to you that times are really tough, let me be the one:this country is in the worst shape it has been in since the great depression. People are loosing their jobs everyday, we really appreciate your consideration when making these types of decissions without asking the small business what they think.

Personally I think this move is a good one for all schools not just a select few and what kind of business do you have that depends on something that comes your way only every 8 to 12 years anyway? This event should be whats best for the kids who play the games.

Donations are gifts, not investments. If your small business is relying on a Region Basketball tournament that comes around once every 7+ years, you must have one heck of a mark up. How does a teacher working 40 hours per week compare to your job of working one week every 7 years? :idunno:

DIstrict tournaments are still played at school sites. SO that gives each community a chance to reap some reward.

 

I see no reason why Harlan just because they have a new school deserves any more consideration than any other school

 

In reality the short travel time benefits all schools in London, Corbin, Williamsburg and Barbourville. It's hard to argue that.

 

However in the end, I think neutral sites are better. That's why every other region in the state that has an option like the arena has chosen this path. Change is always difficult and many worry. But I really think time will bear this out as a good decision for all.

Up here in NKy there is a weekend of basketball games at the BOKC that some of the local HS play in. The money after expenses are given to a local chairty. It is called the Bluegrass Buckeye and a it pits some of the Ohio teams vs some of the local NKy teams. It gives a chance to some teams to play at the site and makes money for a very worthwhile charity at the same time. Couldn't your Region pull something like this off?
