  1. Maybe they could have scheduled some tougher competition like Clay County, Grant County, or Prestonsburg.
  2. They were playing for a cause and played very inspired football that season. I played against them. They were one of those teams that gave everything they had each play.
  3. They need to play the best athletes/football players regardless of their class. I understand it's a big program with a lot of kids out. However, if you have a kid that's in the top 15-20 players on your team he should be on the field.
  4. I agree they should be one of the favorites. They also have a sophomore running back with D1 potential. Coach Hawkins is loaded with talent right now.
  5. Those 4 teams combined on the year only averaged 16.5 points a game and had a combined record of 12-32. 3 of those teams combined for only 4 wins on the season. You can dress it up all you want...
  6. The defensive coordinator that gave up 34 points a game last season?
  7. Any news at GRC? Where are they in the hiring process? Any favorites for the job?
  8. Caruthers had 40+ more touches than Johnson. He was the leading rusher and second leading receiver, but your argument is he wasn't the #1 option? I could say that since Johnson was the #1 option everyone knew he was getting the ball, but still couldn't stop him. Bottom line is they were both great players Caruthers played on the better team that took some of the defense focus off him. While stopping Johnson was the gameplan for every defense.
  9. Anyone know if any of the players on the roster are 6th graders?
  10. Did Huddleston see any significant playing time?
  11. I agree 100% with you if accolades are all that parents are worried with. The biggest advantage of athletics are the discipline, respect for authority, work ethic, and leadership qualities that are attained through years of athletics. Of course this is all dependent on the coaching staffs and the program's the student athletes come up through. But, athletics definitely instill core values and characteristics that are important in the work force.
  12. Each draft is different, but since you're using last years top 10 as your example 3 played their rookie season at the age of 23, 1 at the age of 22, and the other six at the age of 21. No one played their rookie season as a 20 year old last season. So 40% of the top 10 were 22-23 yet GMs are shying away.... That doesn't even account for the guys in the later rounds.
  13. I never said hold a kid back in 8th grade and I don't believe a kid that is holding back should be allowed to participate in athletics if repeating a grade.
  14. I follow football very closely so I know NFL teams don't shy away from 22-23 year old draft picks. However, I had already looked it up just to be able to back up my statements. Maybe you should check it out. Check the different drafts. National Football League: NFL Draft History
  15. How many actually make the league? If their good enough in basketball and they're going to be one and done then they will be 18-20 when drafted regardless if they've held back. That's the idea age that all nba GMs want. NFL is a different animal. The kids are required to be 3 years removed from high school. You will never see a team shy away from a 22-23 year old draft pick. With all of this said the main priority should be whatever it takes to get a free education and let the chips fall where they may.
  16. That's great and your son was definitely farther ahead academically at an early age. However, I was trying to state that the kids that aren't at the top of their class can still take advantage of this. Our middle school (7-8th) offers Basic Math (7th grade), Pre-Algebra (8th grade), Algebra (9th), and Geometry (10th grade). Usually the majority of advanced kids only test up 1 grade level. It's rare when incoming 7th graders test out of basic math and pre-algebra. So most advanced kids end up getting Algebra done in middle school which speeds up their math courses in high school. I was referring to the opportunity for those kids to take pre-algebra as a 7th grader, Algebra as a holdback 7th grader, and geometry as an 8th grader. This can be done with other subjects I'm just familiar with the math. This ensures the student can begin with Algebra 2 as a freshman and Calculus as a sophomore which would allow dual credit courses as a junior. As you said all kids are different, but there are definite advantages.
  17. Kids can now take high school courses in middle school. So I see it being a great academic advantage to hold back. They can take their advanced courses the first year and set themselves up to then take high school courses while still in middle school. This enables the students to take dual credit courses their senior year in high school. Entering college with most of their freshmen credits earned, saving parents thousands of dollars, and giving parents an additional year with their children.
  18. Reece had a great game. Made plays on defense and special teams.
  19. Kyle is a great kid and will be a special talent. I've really enjoyed working with him the past couple seasons.
  20. Jordan Vaughn was the soon to be freshman that won Defensive MVP in the Future Stars game. The kid has a ton of potential and should play at the next level with proper coaching and a good work ethic. I would think he would be an immediate starter and impact player on the defensive side of the ball for Madisonville.
  21. For selfish reasons I would have rather seen Cole playing for the wildcats. But this is a much due accomplishment, Congrats.
