I see no reason why Harlan just because they have a new school deserves any more consideration than any other school

Harlan County has the nicest new gym in eastern Kentucky. They should be given a chance to host the regional.

 

Several Corbin residents I've talked with agree on that point.

We can fuss all day, but the bottom line is The Arena will be the host for the next four years. I agree with HDE about Harlan County getting to host it. Maybe let Harlan County host it once during the first four-year cycle, then South Laurel and then Clay County and then go back to Harlan County.

One of the worst mistakes schools have made lately. I have never felt more distracted at a ballgame as the Hardwood Classic. The ticket prices are way too high for the kids to support their teams not to mention the parents of ball players. What about the parents that have several members in the family that want to attend everygame? The Arena has the worst consessions and is totally over priced. Did anyone consider the unemployment in the area? IMO...Greed had everything to do with the vote WAY TO GO.

 

I understand your feelings but please consider that North Laurel will be able to run the tournament as they see fit. The ticket prices and concessions will be specially priced to accomodate a HS basketball tournament.

SAD to see the 13th moved from the individual high schools. This will take some of the tradition out of the games. This will also give Corbin a big up on other teams in the 13th for the next four years.

 

I respectfully disagree. I think it will be great to see the Region moved to an neutral site instead of being at Clay and Bell every couple of years. The only advantage Corbin will have is if the other teams fans decide not to show. Don't see that happening....Give it a chance.

No, I personally have not seen it myself, I have seen pictures and it's the nicest gym by far in the region. However just because it's nice doesn't give Harlan County an advantage to hold the region over anybody else.

It is unfair that Harlan County won't get a chance to host the 13th region tournament. If you have not seen their gym, then you are missing out. Hopefully, something will change in the near future that will allow them that opportunity.

At the end of the day, like anyting else, there are pros and cons about hosting the tournament at the Arena. No matter what the princinpals/coaches decided upon, not everyone was going to be in agreement.

I can't believe after all the 10TH region talks from last year that the Mason Co. folk haven't convinced the people in the 13th that there is no home court advantage to be had in the regional tournament. :lol::lol:

That is avery good point. It is about the kids anyway I do hate that HC will not be able to hold it they have a very nice gym and it would be a great atmosphere for a regional game.

I've seen it. It's the nicest high school gym that I've personally been in. It's something that Harlan should be (and is) very proud of.

 

However, it's Harlans and it gives Harlan and advantage to host it. I think that whatever perceived slight it is to not give it to Harlan at least once, is over shadowed by the fact that it will now be played on a neutral floor.

 

Williamsburg, Lynn Camp, Red Bird, Pineville, Jackson County and the like have never had an opportunity to host a region tournament. At least Harlan County got to host them at Cawood many times. It's the natural progression of things to move it to a neutral site.

 

I feel for Harlan and you HDE, but its the right move.
