I am starting to be of the mindset that this is not a good idea. I am hearing no bands, no dance teams, no noisemakers, no confetti after the championship game, etc. Sounds like they are taking the fun out of these regional tournaments. I am starting to rethink my stance and don't like what I am hearing.

 

I am surprised that North Laurel voted for it since the entire Board of Education in Laurel County was deadset against it. This was North's year to host it, and since they missed their last opportunity when they moved from the 12th to the 13th, I am shocked they gave it up this year. I am really surprised.

We can fuss all day, but the bottom line is The Arena will be the host for the next four years. I agree with HDE about Harlan County getting to host it. Maybe let Harlan County host it once during the first four-year cycle, then South Laurel and then Clay County and then go back to Harlan County.

 

Then Bell Co....Then Knox Central......then North Laurel..etc. It wouldn't be fair to give a region to those schools without giving one to other bigger regional schools.

Bell County has had it numerous times. Knox Central had it a couple of years ago. North Laurel probably hosted it in the 12th Region, but I'm not sure.

 

Harlan County's gym is much, much nicer and newer.

You will be more shocked when you learn the reason why! Clay and Harlan were the only two that voted for the best interest regardless of what one might think. It really is sad, but it is time to move on!:isurrender:

I am glad to see the schools have the courage to make the move. It is a shame that the 10th was so short sighted that they could not see how much better it was at NKU.

I think it had more to do with money.

I would love to know the reason. Just my curious side I guess! The reason I have heard is that with the construction going on in the lobby area, they were nervous that it wouldnt' be ready for the region. However, I have a hard time believing that it won't be ready by that time.

I think you misunderstood what I said. I do believe the region should be at Harlan Co. atleast once. I was commenting on Les saying that Harlan Co, Clay Co, and South Laurel could all host it too. That would be unfair to let those 3 schools host it and not other regional schools ever again. It needs to be held at the Arena and see how it works out.

I don't like this proposal AT ALL. I usually agree with Les, but not on this one. I think Denis got this one right IMHO. This was NEVER about the kids, ... and that is why I hate that this particular proposal passed.

All throughout the meeting, several administrators kept saying the tournament was for the students, which of course, was totally bull. In the Arena’s proposal, the one that passed, it states that students will not be allowed to wear body paint, there would be no banners, signs, flags, confetti or noise makers, and no dance teams will be allowed to perform. So I guess the students can come and what, sit and clap? I have nothing against noise makers; in fact, I believe that’s a KHSAA rule. And confetti can be a mess to clean up. But signs and banner? As long as they aren’t offensive, what’s the problem? And why can’t a kid paint himself in his school colors? You see it all the time at college events.
