I don't like this proposal AT ALL. I usually agree with Les, but not on this one. I think Denis got this one right IMHO. This was NEVER about the kids, ... and that is why I hate that this particular proposal passed.

That's rediculous...I know it's not about the students, but the Arena should have told the 13th region coaches that there wouldn't be any of the following allowed because I can almost guarantee they wouldn't have voted for it.

I don't think that they were allowed to bring signs, confetti and etc. That is a 13th region policy as well as KHSAA.

 

And for those who think that it isn't about the kids then you haven't been there to watch a game or even play in it because it is a great place for the teams to play. Some will never make it to Rupp or Diddle so it is about the kids. I think that it will be great and I do hate that Harlan County will not get to host for the next 4 years but who knows what will happen after that it could go back to the old way.

Most people in Laurel Co. cannot stand the Corbin School System and I think that this bias shows through in his column. I can assure him that Corbin would not have voted against it if The Arena was in London as he stated. Mr. House is just trying to appease the South Laurel side as seems to be that paper's policy. Ask around London on why South Laurel really voted against it, it pretty much came down to one person's wishes from what the Londonites have told me.

 

North Laurel will make close to the same amount of money without all the headaches involved in hosting it at their school, they will still receive revenue from t-shirt sales, etc.

It seems like a smart move on their part to me.

I agree now it is fair for everybody. They will all get a chance to host and make money.

Hey, I was actually for the arena UNTIL I learned about the restrictions on the kids. That is a joke IMHO. And I have no hatred for the Corbin School System. I have helped football and basketball players from Corbin High School get their information out to college coaches. I want ALL kids to succeed, especially those in SEKY. But disallowing painting, banners, signs, dance teams, etc is totally against a big part of what makes HS sports fun.

 

I also know that several folks on the North side did not want the tourney to be at the Arena. They wanted a shot to host it.

 

As far as how Corbin would have voted if the Arena were in London, ... since it isn't we will never know. Denis is wrong to assume that they would vote against it and it is also wrong to assume that Corbin would have voted for it. We can say anything, but since it isn't in London, we will never know.

Just drop it already...The regions going to the Arena and there's nothing that nobody can say or do to change it!!!:irked:

If Harlan has the biggest gym that would be able to comfortably hold the most people and also payout to all the schools, then I think that if The Arena does not work out that it should be moved there. It should not come down to where the tournament is, just that it is the best available site.

I understand, I understand about noisemakers and confetti, that makes perfect sense to me. But the others are going to far IMHO. They aren't thinking about who these tournaments are for, ... the kids.

I don't care who came up with those rules, I disagree with them. IMHO, they should have asked to have them taken out. I realize that they saw it in the proposal, and that's what really disappoints me from the schools. I don't blame the Arena, they did what they had to do to get the tourney. I am disappointed with the schools that voted for this particular proposal.

 

I have a feeling that whomever cast the vote in favor from North will not be the favorite at the central office right now.

I am starting to be of the mindset that this is not a good idea. I am hearing no bands, no dance teams, no noisemakers, no confetti after the championship game, etc. Sounds like they are taking the fun out of these regional tournaments. I am starting to rethink my stance and don't like what I am hearing.

 

I am surprised that North Laurel voted for it since the entire Board of Education in Laurel County was deadset against it. This was North's year to host it, and since they missed their last opportunity when they moved from the 12th to the 13th, I am shocked they gave it up this year. I am really surprised.

 

NL may have voted for it if they had reserved seating like South. Ask any AD how much reserved seating does for you in terms of revenue. If I was North I would've done the same thing unless I got some chairbacks and a had a legitimate chance to make it worth my while.
