I would love to hear some updates of how the scrimmage goes tomorrow night. Unfortunately I wont be able to attend the scrimmage with it being in Mercer Co.

The way I'm hearing things if it comes down to defense right now, we will have a lot to talk about late tomorrow night. I hope that certain people on here are being cautious about the Somerset D right now. I wish them the best and stay healthy.

Yes, Somerset's numbers are somewhat down this year. SomersetFootball could tell us more accurately but I believe that somewhere between 26-30 players. At one time the cound was 26 but I've heard that maybe a few more freshman and upperclassman have showed up. Some of this may be due to a large Senior class last year and a small 8th grade group that have moved up. Numbers should move up some next year with a larger 8th grade group from Meece Middle this year. I don't have the exact number of Seniors on this year team but I believe that its around 8.

I expect Somerset to be tougher this and improved against the run. We have a good size line this year with more game time experience, though the line is not deep. So staying healthy will be a huge key to the line. We also have a strong corp. of LB's who are quick to the ball. Imo the key to this years Jumpers squad will be the secondary, they haven't proven much yet in practice.

I think that the scrimmage is going to be at Mercer Co.

Is this based on who they lost and have returning?

Just wanted to clarify something, I meant the bigger chance of the 3 Pulaski Co. teams (Pulaski Co., Somerset, and Southwestern). Not that any of these 3 are going to be favorites going into the game.

Have to play game by game. Danville could be 3-0 against Pulaski Co. Schools or 1-2. Either way I think that Southwestern and Somerset will stand the bigger chance of beating Danville this year.

Well said! :thumb: In no way has Somerset EVER been afraid to play a difficult schedule. Myself, I like the new proposed district. Having Corbin, Middlesboro, and Leslie Co. on the schedule will be much more beneficial to the gates at the Briar Patch. But on the other side I do see this possibly putting a strain on some smaller schools.

There's no doubt that Harlan Consolidated will have long drives to each and every district game, but to Shelby Co thats a little to far. Shelby Co. could easily be moved to another district, ie. with the Lexington teams in district 7, one of the Louisville area districts 3,4,or 5. That makes much more since to me! :thumb:

At first I wasn't in favor of the plan, then I was and know I don't know. I like the idea of more classes but looking at it in terms of playoffs, I just don't know. In some district every team will be making the playoffs. I get looking at some of the drive times and its crazy! Shelby Co. and Harlan consolidated being in the same district is just sick (4 hour+ trip).

There's no doubt that Pugh is a great QB and with some receivers this year will have great numbers again. One thing I noticed about him last year is not only does he have a great arm but is also very nimble with his feet.

I'm curious to see how well Pulaski Co. does this year without the Perkins brothers. They may not have the athletes this year but may play better as a team.

AA Region 4, District 8 Corbin, Knott Co. Central, Leslie Co, Middlesboro, and Somerset. I really like this district with Somerset having the opportunity to renew games with old rivals Corbin and Middlesboro. Then throw in a strong Leslie Co. team and upcoming Knott Co. Central and this will prove to be a great district year in and year out.

I remember watching Megargel in middle school dominate on the defensive side of the ball. He has slid under the radar so far but should make a name for himself this year. If he has the hands he could me a nice target for Deaton this year at TE.

SomersetFootball has all of our players showed up to play? I was told that one in particular hadn't decided yet if he was going to play this year.

For this to happen someone will have to step up with Kenny Hughes in the backfield. We do return both Deaton QB and John Cole WR which should give us a powerful punch through the air. :thumb:

That is great to hear! I did hear that he had a good offseason and was possibly going to be a pleasant surprise this season at tailback. I have also heard that Cowan has been working extremely hard too, but still lacks size.
