Just remember you're dealing with 14 to 18 year old kids. You can preach till the cows come home and still it sometimes falls on deaf ears.

We played flat in more games we were supposed to win than in games that were thought to be tough ones. I agree it's an overused excuse, but I don't think when teams are evenly matched either should come out flat, although I have seen it happen.

Fulton County and Fulton City being so bad really hurts Mayfields schedule strength. I've done this team beat that team and so on and so forth and it really means nothing.

Just a question as I've seen this happen more and more lately. A team goes for it on 3rd and short or 4th and short and a measurement is called for. Instead of running in and spotting the ball where it is they pick the ball up toss to the officail respot and then measure. Until recently I had never seen this done is this something being taught?

Not sure that's a rule on the high school level.

Ok answer this one for me. I was listening to the Franklin County and Woodford County game. It was late in the game and Woodford punted they called a block in the back on Franklin County, and instead of FC getting the ball with the penalty they allowed Woodford to keep the ball marked off the penalty and gave them a first down. Never heard of this before. I could understand if it was holding on Franklin at the line before the kick, but they called block in the back.

Sounds like the transportation people are being a little anal to me. We used to get busses at the last minute for different teams.

Really don't think Tracy will take it out on the kids, although it will probably be bad. Just curious as to where the upperclassmen for FC have gone. Lot's of good young talent for FC, but it's hard to compete with jr's and sr's. I think Stepp will get things figured out he's won everyplace he's been. Heck if you can win at Berea you can pretty much win anywhere. With all that said Woodford wins 42 to 7.

They are not always off, sometimes they take awhile to get everything straight. Years ago they were used to determine playoff spots.

I've not understood the dropoff in Paris football myself. Seems to be a toughness issue, and that maybe a hard thing to instill.

Nope, not running it up in the least. Way back when I played my sophomore year we had the number 1 ranked defense in the state. It gave up 4.6 points a game. I played JV and all but for a game or two we were the best competition our varsity faced. Made them better and made us better. JV's got to play a lot in second half of games, and after going against that defense all week we were able to put points on the board against about anyone's varsity. I don't recall anyone ever accusing us of running it up. Sound about like the same situation.

I understand your arguement Ram, but all the small schools you mentioned are not going to beat the top schools in the larger classes simply because they will get worn down by the numbers of the larger schools. A to AA not so much, but anything above that I believe the bigger schools win at least 85% of those games.

Highlands is a true exception to the numbers scenerio. It just goes to reason that if you have a larger school to choose from you should end up with better numbers. Now if the programs are poorly run that cancels out any advantage that should be there.

Here's my arguement that size does matter. I went to a playoff game probably ten years ago or so. Now both teams were in the same class which actually makes the numbers closer than they would be with different classes playing each other. One teams starters were better than the others, but because of a lack of depth that teams starters had to play both ways while the other team platooned. Third quarter the team with better starters is ahead, by the middle of the 4th quarter the tale kicking is on. What had been a very competetive hard fought game became a butt kicking for the team that platooned simply because they had worn the other team down. Even going way back to when I played at Frankfort High in the 70's we were very good and usually had over 40 players. We always wanted to play bigger schools and our coach made the statement that he thought in a one game deal we could play with anyone, but to play larger teams every week their depth would eventually wear us down. That came from a man that's forgotten more football than I'll ever know.

Glad someone brought up the scrimmage from a couple of years ago when the results were opposite and LCA ended up in the state championship. Not saying FHS will, but that's why you have scrimmages.
