You're going beyond comparing the sheer numbers each school has, to the number of people in each surrounding area. In other words, the pool in Louisville is roughly 15 times greater than Henderson County. I do agree that that is also an advantage. I don't think Highlands location and the level of their success is just a coincidence. The same people in authority (coaches, etc.) couldn't come close to duplicating the success at HHS at some school of comparable size in Eastern KY.

The average enrollment was about 2200 students. I don't know what percentage boys typically make up, so I'll just assume half and half. That would put them at about 1100 boys on average. The question then is why can't some of the public schools with size be more competitive? I don't know how current the numbers are, but I looked up some figures for KY's public schools and their enrollment...I'd say its safe to assume these numbers are representative of how things are now. That is accepted. But, why is it that a school with roughly one quarter of the male population (Highlands) is significantly more competitive than other schools that are much closer to T and X as far as numbers go?

It would seem so. Of course, maybe they just get lucky a lot? I was honestly a little surprised by that. I didn't expect 80% of the top schools to be public schools.

Knott Central and Letcher Central will nearly always be the two best teams, with Knott Central probably coming out on top more often. Typically, the other three are not a threat to those two, but there are always exceptions. June Buchanan recently had a nice run that took them all the way to Rupp. It's been a while since Jenkins had a real contender, but I can remember them having some pretty good teams some years ago. Cordia had some decent teams when I was in school, but were never serious contenders. Obviously the districts have changed over the years, but the teams are still pretty much the same.

Curious, I looked up the top 30 schools in Rivals final 2010 national high school rankings. 24 out of 30 were public schools. The average enrollment of the public schools was about 2200 students. There's no arguing that size is an advantage. However, it is obvious that not all big schools utilize it.

I know Rodrick Rhodes is the new coach. What do they have coming back? Are any new additions expected? Is anyone coming with Rhodes?

:thumb: I think a big part of it is perception and expectation. It was expected that Sullinger would outproduce Harrelson more than he did.

I thought Cal was masterful last night. UK's D was suffocating. Sullinger got his, but at the expense of the shooters, and Jorts played him almost even. I thought this was a well played game between two very similar and closely matched teams. Liggins was awesome. I was very impressed by Craft. His defense ain't no joke. I thought the stripes were really favoring the Buckeyes in the first half. Jones picked up two quick fouls on the same play, one a charge and one a block on him. But, they were much better in the second half. Great basketball game, back and forth, huge shot by Knight to win it, but Buford's shot looked good about half way there to me. My heart was sinking until it hit the rim. Did anyone else think it was going in?

He's a player. I'd love to see him play for a coach that would push the tempo a little.

I did. I've frequently picked them to win the 1st in contests and they never seem to do it. :lol:

He's supposed to be one of their best players, if not the best, so this isn't just a case of a kid getting hot for three games. Bad news for the rest of the 14th region. They have to play against him for 5 more years.

I was assuming that he had to have scored some points prior to being a freshmen. Otherwise, I can't see saying a guy who scored a 1000 points as a freshman couldn't reach 4300.

Has he scored all his points as a freshman, or did he play some as a 7th or 8th grader? And, if so, how much?

Looks like winning the district paid off. I think avoiding a potentially dangerous Glasgow team was a decent reward.

PRP got a great draw...relatively speaking, of course. Although, Butler seems to be cranking it up a notch at tournament time for the second straight year.

Johnson Central is rated #1 by Cantrall. Betsy Layne won the All "A" Classic. Those two are definitely the favorites, but they aren't locks by any means.

Didn't these two go to multiple OT's in last year's region final?

Ballard has won both matchups this season by double figures I believe. I think the Bruins may be just a little too good for Trinity, but playing at home could make a huge difference.
