Cordia 2011/2012

Featured Replies

Basketball season for 2011/2012 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Cordia? Remember, please be constructive.

I know Rodrick Rhodes is the new coach. What do they have coming back? Are any new additions expected? Is anyone coming with Rhodes?

I don't know how accurate the info is but I received a call from a friend a few days ago about 3 kids, I believe they are sophomores, having moved from Texas and will attend Cordia this year. From what I hear they are all very good players. Two are guards, 5'11 and 6'2, and the third is around 6'6. Whether they will be eligible or not I have not heard, but if they are and are as good as I was told then the Lions could be a big factor in the 14th region this year. I think they have most of their key players back from last year. As of now, though, Perry Central, Buckhorn, Hazard, and Letcher Central have been tagged by most to be the top contenders in the region for this season.

I know that Hazard and Perry Central are in the same district. Who all is in the district with Corida?

Knott County Central and Letcher County Central typically dominate the district. Cordia occasionally has good clubs, while Jenkins is almost always the weakest of the group. I'm not sure June Buchanan participates in the KHSAA anymore.

Knott Central and Letcher Central will nearly always be the two best teams, with Knott Central probably coming out on top more often. Typically, the other three are not a threat to those two, but there are always exceptions. June Buchanan recently had a nice run that took them all the way to Rupp. It's been a while since Jenkins had a real contender, but I can remember them having some pretty good teams some years ago. Cordia had some decent teams when I was in school, but were never serious contenders. Obviously the districts have changed over the years, but the teams are still pretty much the same.

Not sure.

If you find out let us know. Appreciate all the info you have given us. :thumb:

June Buchanan does not have any games listed this year. They played 5 games last year and did not participate in the district tournament.

Thanks, how would you rate that district?

Knott Central and Letcher Central will nearly always be the dominate teams in the 53rd district. From what I hear the winner will be one of those two this year, they're about evenly matched in talent.

As for Cordia, I'm not sure how much of what I heard was hyperbole or whatever, but the person who I spoke with said he talked to a couple of Knott Central fans who had watched Cordia's players in a pickup game. He said two of them would be the top two players in the 14th region this season, and that by the time they were seniors one would be a mid-major prospect and one a D-1 level. The guys who watched them were very impressed. If they are as good as these guys predict, and Cordia has players coming back who can help them, then the Lions could be right in the mix for a district title along with LCC and KCC. I'm not sure about a region title though, Perry Central will be difficult to de-throne.

I think they seed, but I'm not 100% sure about it.
