  1. The very 1st coaching clinic I ever attended Coach Yeagle spoke. I remember calling my dad and saying "I know why he is so successful, I'm ready to run through a wall for him right now!" He was intense, direct and you believed in the conviction he oozed! I still remember him saying "if you want to beat us you better run stuff that isn't on film and that might work for a half". I think you could make the argument he was the greatest Head Coach this state has had. Same with what was posted on Coach Mueller. I got to sit with him one of the 1st years I coached. I wanted to sit by him so I could pick his brain as much as possible. I was blown away how much he was like talking to a scientist. The thing I walked away thinking about him was perfection+execution. He said "if we're running steps and we tell kids to hit every step with their right foot 1st they do it like a machine. If one kid loses focus and hits left foot 1st then we start the whole practice over". His thought process was teaching focus when fatigue sets in. Could make the argument he's the greatest too. Glad to here both of them were honored. Both as good as it gets!
  2. This is a good time for the state to learn about Kash Daniels. 1 of the most physical QB's I've ever seen.
  3. 2 years ago that's what they finished the season with. The sky was falling, there were talks of could they keep a football program with such a small enrollment. They had to play a bunch of Freshman that got the hell beat out of them physically and mentally. I remember after Fairview drilled them talking to my nephew who was a Freshman starting both ways. I told him to lock those memories away because in 2 years they won't play anybody with more varsity experience than those young kids that got beat to death. Tonight he ran back an 80+yd TD on def. Coach Cherrico took the job and they haven't looked back. He is one of the very best men I've met in coaching. Stud safety for Marshall he has a group of young men that have bought into his "we not me" philosophy! Can't say enough good things about him or the group of kids he has!
  4. How's that for a preseason prediction. LC was undefeated and battled into 4th quarter w Belfry for District now Regional Championship. Paintsville played Raceland for the District championship. Paintsville went from a program with 15 kids to the biggest turnaround in state history tonight! Unfortunately Salyers tore his knee but at 6'5 240lb TE willing to beef up he's going to make a nice college prospect if anybody has college connections.
  5. 25 yrs ago Russell beat us my Jr year at Lawrence Co. LC had never won a playoff game until that season. In the 2nd rd we went to Russell and played to a 6-6 tie. Overtime 12-12. Double OT we pulled the biggest upset I'd seen 18-15 as the 4 seed. Tonight a group of kids I've watched grow up topped that at Paintsville. Tears swelled in my eyes as my nephew Luke Trimble scooped+scored an 80 yd TD pointing to the sky to his grandad he lost last weekend. I said preseason Paintsville has as much skill as anybody in EKY when they spread it around. Hats off to the kids for believing and the coaching staff that shut down a very very very talented Pikeville team. Congrats Pikeville on beating some great programs this year!
  6. The Week 4 games are as follows: Cooper 5-point Super Game Lexington Catholic 3 Graves County 3 Corbin Henry Clay Fairview Collins Bardstown Garrard County Frankfort TB 48
  7. 5Laffeyette 3 Williamsburg 3 Bowling Green Cooper Southwestern Warren Central Fulton Marshall County Murray 54
  8. He asked for more info on them if you could read. I think they should be in the 5-10 range right now. We'll see how things work out. Been around here a long time. Last time I talked them up they went 12-1 after 0-11 season. I have a couple of question marks with them just telling guys that follow they are a great sleeper team this year.
  9. I think Lawrence would be the 1st to say they have to earn their way up the ladder but I'd defiantly keep an eye on them. This is somewhere around the most overall talent they've had since 1997. A lot of things play into it. Health etc. Pike Central has had their number but I think LC will roll this year. Raceland is always a good rivalry but LC too deep with talent i think. I'll be surprised if they aren't undefeated going into the Belfry game 8-0. Prestonsburg the next week is usually a good game but LC has nobody starting both ways and skill galore. QB Grant Kiser had 2 TD through the air and will beat people with his legs. He's 1 of those kids you want your kids to grow up like. Straight A's, team 1st hard worker w good size. Soph slot Timmy Dalton is right behind Baker as the most athletic kid in EKY. 3 year starting WR Noah Lambert has great hands, crisp routes, great blocker. TE Luke Schaffer had 2 nice TD grabs last week. Tailback Morgan OBrian started 2 yrs ago before an injury has homerun speed. FB Mosely is potential 1000 yd back. Nice big like. Josh Ratcliff around 6'5 270ish is nephew to Marshall all American Phil Ratcliff. Mikey Johnson, Austin Ross big physical maulers. Defensively LC can matchup. 3 300lb dlineman. Couple 245lb ilbers. Secondary/olbers extremely athletic. Had 5 int's last week couple called back+pick 6. These next 2 years should be Lawrence Co's best shot of ever getting to Rupp. They had a loaded football team but now have about 90% of that skilled basketball team playing. VERY athletic and deep. The road goes through Belfry on this end and they have to beat the Pike Central's to get there but my gut thinks that Belfry game is going to be a dandy! They've waxed LC the last few years so it's Belfry's till somebody knocks them off. IMO this has the potential to be 1 of LC's best teams they've had. Throw in they are very well coached with a versatile team and it should be interesting. Bell Co several years ago was a different beast much like the Highlands teams in the late 90's that beat LC deep. I just don't think 3A has those level of teams right now. Hard to tell about Central because we don't know how great Manuel is yet. Long season. Injuries etc play a role. LC defiantly a team to keep an eye on. Great balance!
  10. Keep an eye on Lawrence Co this year. Hard to sell me they aren't a top 4 team. It's been a long long time since they've had this many athletes this deep. Great ball skills! Timmy Dalton might be the best Soph in KY. I think they had 6 different guys score Sat. Tremendous balance on this team w zero kids starting both ways.
  11. 5ptMayfield 3pt Ashland 3pt Lafayette Belfry Shelby Valley Bullitt East Trinity Newport Central Catholic Beechwood Connor 49
  12. 5 Collins 3 Ensworth, TN 3 Boyle County Pikeville Newport Central Catholic Wayne County Grayson County Jenkins Bryan Station McCracken County Pts 54
  13. Awesome! Thanks for the heads up! That should be an outstanding game. Any other sleeper predictions. Teams/players to watch. I'm not affiliated w the teams I mentioned. I know they'll focus 1 game at a time. Speaking as a fan on teams/kids to watch. Messer at Raceland is another!
  14. Lawrence Co will meet up with Belfry undefeated with a legit shot at finally knocking off the giant. Belfry's king of the region until somebody does it but I think this is LC's best shot at the carpet since 1997 (2010 loaded but Bell was different level than road this year). Major athletic depth+good size up front. Soph Timmy Dalton might end up going the Gerad Parker route. 1 of the top basketball players in school history that ends up being a D1 WR. Paintsville will be the best story in KY. The program finished the season 2 years ago with about 15 players dressed. In shambles. They now have a tremendous amount of size/speed combo in skill spots. Jr QB Kash Daniels might be the best secret in KY. 6'3-6'4 300+ bencher can run+big arm. TB Belcher 300+ bencher, slot Cody Charles 300+ bencher, slot Luke Trimble 150yds Recirving+80 yd kick return vs Fairview as a Frosh 3 yr starter, WR Peyton smith 3-4 yr starter plus good skill depth. Pikeville/hazard/wburg all tough but I expect the district championship to come down to battle w Raceland. Sleeper Star Johnson Central TE Truman Salyers. 6'5 240ish. Nice basketball player so can move. With work I think he's got nice D1 potential. Anxious to watch Baker/Long duo at Ashland both around 4.4 speed. Pikeville/Pburg game of the night in the mountains. Both with a ton of talent.
  15. I think it's OK. Not his best or worst. I'm pumped his new stuff will be out for football plaoffs. Till I Collapse is a ritual on Friday's although a lot is because of Nate Dogg. I miss the Beastie's+NWA. Pioneers along w Run DMC. Wish I could remember the documentary on Netflix. It was about the height of Rap during the Biggy/2Pac days. Crazy how tied in all those guys were in underground rap, about all drug dealers. Rap was way out.
  16. Coach Goldsmith changed my life forever as a player at Lawrence Co. There is no opposing coach I respected more than Bill Tom Ross. We had some battles when I played. We marched 80 yds as time expired to win my Soph year. Went 11-0 and he was keynote speaker at our banquet. Lost 45-44 jr year. Got healthy and during regional championship Racelands team ran around the track carrying our flag. He wrote the team a tremendous letter during our final 4 practice week. Sr year we were 7-0 on season. Rolled into Raceland and lost 3-0!! As a coach now it has been a pleasure getting to talk ball with him a little. I have so much respect for Coach Ross!
  17. If SK wins 6A the amount of viewers on at 1 time could be an all time record. It's pretty exciting to see 6A so wide open! I think it's T until you knock them off but it appears to be wide open. My gut thinks Scott Co wins it and the state falls in love with Daniels!
  18. The Independent : Mark Maynard: Handshake lines a thing of the past? 10/10/13
  19. Outstanding article by Mark Maynard of the Ashland Dailey. http://m.dailyindependent.com/Independent/pm_102879/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=udFfzjOU
  20. Baker's Freshman year. He's only a Soph. Against a good pretty good schedule. QUINTON BAKER - Highlight Videos, Schedule & Roster - Hudl
  21. I think in the Eastern part of the state it would be Quinton Baker at Ashland son of former UK RB Al Baker.
