I agree! These folks are getting paid pennies for the time that they put in and are away from their family. And it doesn't matter if they are the undefeated state champs, there will be always be someone unhappy with something.

The Breds are playing a heck of a schedule this year. In addition to the tough 10th region teams, Coach Kendall has scheduled Holmes, Scott County, Woodford County, Collins, Henry Clay, and they are playing in the Republic Bank Classic. These games will definitely have the Breds ready for March.

Final The Indians improve to 3-0. The Thorobreds fall to 0-2.

I saw start the playoffs the same way...Have a District Tournament with the top 4 and have the District champs advance on. I think they used to do it this way, not sure why they changed.

Sounds like the Breds really competed tonight, but it is hard to win if you have 16 penalties for over 100 yards . The Bulldogs improve to 5-2. The Thorobreds fall to 2-6.

As a coach it gave me a chance to see how my players faced small adversity if things didn't go their way during a game. Some of my favorite memories as a coach were other coaches coming up to me and telling me how much class my team had. There was also a time when I spent about 10 minutes after an extra inning game complaining not about how they played but how they acted with the officials during the game (the official later apologized to me for missing a key call in extras and I apologized for my teams actions). Another incident I had was a player that didn't shake hands with the opposing team because of what they and their fans were saying about him during the game. He wasn't a bad kid matter of fact he was a great kid, but just didn't handle it the right way. I made him go and apologize after the game to their team and wish them luck the rest of the year. So I feel that instead of eliminating the handshake, coaches should use that time educating their student athletes how to act with class. Most coaches do and I would hope that the association would look to hold their coaches responsible for the team's actions and the coach would hold the players responsible for their own actions. I think Coach Bryant said it best: "Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself."

I just think that by the KHSAA doing this, they are ignoring the real issue of player/coach behavior. If someone can't control themselves before/during/after a game, then they should be punished with real consequences. Start fining the schools (not just the coaches) who have coaches and players that misbehave and I promise that the schools and AD will take notice.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, all involved in contests seem to be more aggressive immediately after the contests are concluded and winning with honor and dignity (and losing the same way) doesn’t seem to be being instilled across the board. Isn't the above part of the coach's job? And shouldn't it be the KHSAA's job to make sure that this is going on? It’s really that simple. Sportsmanship and civility remain hallmark values. It is my hope that all schools can provide the proper supervision and accountability to continue these types of activities. But if they can’t, then stop doing them. I know this may be a jump, but what if the fights continue and eventually they say the bolded statements about interscholastic sports in Ky.

I can respect that, as a PE teacher it is getting harder and harder to get kids to play with sportsmanship and respect for the game, their teammates, opponents, officials, and even fans. I have gone from mentioning it during lessons to making it its own lesson. We need more coaches and parents that emphasize these things and the KHSAA wouldn't feel the need to do this.

I am sure there will be plenty of opportunities for the KHSAA to be sued during in game incidents. Student Athletes need to learn to play and Interact with class. The more opportunities the better.

This is just a game, if kids can't shake hands afterwards without fighting to the point that the KHSAA disapproves of it, then yes we do have a problem with sportsmanship.

Rather than hold a school/team/coach/player responsible, we are going to teach a generation to play without sportsmanship. If you can't control your emotions after a game, then the postgame handshake isn't the problem. If the KHSAA wants to get rid of something, get rid of that paragraph that refs have to read to coaches and captains that nobody enforces anyway.

I think the big question is when will Pope return to action. I believe he was injured in the 2nd quarter with a pretty bad ankle sprain. Hopefully it is not a high ankle sprain and he will be ready for Garrard.
