  1. If Hazard comes ready to play then it shouldn't be close. But if they come out flat like they did against Clay, then it will be interesting.
  2. Hazard and Cumberland match-up pretty well. They are both very athletic. Hazard played the first half flat against Clay Co. Maybe that will wake them up!
  3. Classic match up between two old rivals. Clay Co. got a big lead early but Hazard made a good second half comeback.
  4. Breathitt and Hazard now have their football players back for a month. What do you think about tonight's game?
  5. Good game and good win for the Bulldogs. No one has mentioned that Coach Denny Fugate was sitting on the Commodores bench last night. It looked like Coach Fugate's Match-up zone of the 80's. PCC impressed me for their discipline on offense and their defense. Hazard will be much better then they showed last night. Their athletes will soon have the football out of them and then we will see the real Bulldogs. I was impressed with PCC and also impressed with the Bulldogs potential.
  6. His father was hired as assistant at Hazard.
  7. Off the top of my head: Josh Combs Michael Campbell Corey Martin Joey Meehan Josh Kidd Austin Delpont Allan Fugate
  8. It's too early to tell for Hazard. They are going to be good. But, Coach Holland has to get the football out of them. That could take some time but they'll be ready when it means something.
  9. Jones looked much more agressive than he did last year. Of course they will all have to be more agressive offensively with Hicks gone. Jones also blocked several shots.
  10. Coach Holland only used seven or eight players v. Knott but he has plenty of talent on the bench. They just need to get the football out of them. Football shape and basketball shape are completely different. I found it interesting that Corey Martin and Michael Campbell both played football last Friday night in Lexington and then played Bath Co. at Wolfe Co. on Saturday.
  11. Furthermore, I think that everyone in the 14th Region will rally around June Buchanan because they represent us. With that being said, I don't think everyone will rally around them because they are a small school. They are loaded by mountain standards. They have a 6'9" center, two big time shooters in Cox and Clint Stepp three good role players at forward, an excellent point guard and coaches that have coached at the college level. Thsi isn't Hoosiers! This is a private school and them being loaded is no accident. Do you think anyone rallyed around University Heights because they are a small school? I hope that they win the whole thing but not because they are a small school but because that would be great for the 14th region.
  12. I think that he is a pretty good player but he wasn't even the best player on the floor. That would be JUstn Hicks of Hazard.
  13. Hazard has played in the Hazard Invitational, the Defender of the Stattion, the WYMT Mountain Classic, and the All'A" Tournament. But they have also had to cancel games at the end of season. I'm not sure what the definition is either as defined by the KHSAA but I'm sure that the teams and coaches are aware and wouldn't jeopardize their season because of a violation.
  14. In 92 UHA lost to Lexington Catholic in the All A State and went on to win the Sweet Sixteen in March at Freedom Hall.
  15. I'm showing my age but my senior season I played against Dirk Minnifield at Lafayette, Melvin Turpin at Bryan Station, and Glenn Napier at M.C. Napier who went on to have an outstanding career at Morehead. All three made me look like a grade schooler.
  16. Nathan Johnson at Hazard is an outstanding assistant. He's served at Bracken Co. and Male. I know that he is not looking for a Head Coaching job anywhere.
  17. I think that's pretty accurate right now. I might flip Breathitt and Perry. This will change many times before March. The 14th is wide open!
  18. I like the gyms where you come in from the top and the stands are off the floor like Knott Central and Hazard.
  19. I was at the game. They did play straight man for three possessions until Hicks came off the screen in the corner and drained the three. They mostly played a box and chaser and trapped him whenever they could. That comes from not only my view of the game but also one of Hazard's assistants. This is not taking anything away from Valley. Until another perimeter scorer steps up, thats the way I would guard the Bulldogs.
  20. June Buchanan and Hazard game will help to answer who is the best in January. March is when it counts.
  21. This game illustrated how good Hicks really is. Valley double and triple teamed him all night and with limited shots he still managed 16 pts. and literally led the Bulldogs to a big win. Valley has a very nice team that gets after you from inline to inline. I thought the key to the game was the second quarter Bulldog defense limiting Valley to 4 pts. Jones' blocks were huge also.
  22. Hazard High has had several great coaches. I would have to say that Roscoe Shackleford was the best. He's in the Kentucky High School Hall of Fame. Other great ones were Goebal Ritter in the 50's and Roy McKamey in the 80's.
