Somerset has a LOT of speed. LC did some things well but just could not stop the Jumpers. The Cats youth appeared quite a bit tonight, but many of the youngsters stepped up and showed some promise. Tough 1st game of a tough 3 game stretch but the kids will learn from it. Congrats to the Jumpers!

I'm not going to say LC matches the Jumpers speed position by position, but this year's LC team has some speed of it's own. Line play for the Cats still concerns me.

I think this one can easily go either way still. I'll go with our cross county cousins. KC by 3.

1st game of the Pioneer Bowl @ Lynn Camp. I think think this game tells us a lot about the whole season for these two programs. Any thoughts?

Replacing the QB here will be the big question in my opinion. Jackets could be looking at a somewhat rebuilding year but, as always, can suprise us all. Sounds like a lot is being placed on Root's shoulders.

LC has always played a tough schedule. It usually does not drag the kids down much if they do start bad. The Cats have also seemed to get better as the season has gone along, also. Spring practice went very well, but I really would like to see more kids out for conditioning and weightlifting. The talent is there and the attitudes are better. Look for LC to pull off some suprises this year.

I can remember female drill sergeants being around in the army. They were frightening!!!!! They did their jobs and I would think that there is little to no reason that she could not succeed with this if she knows what she is doing. I can see her doing ok.

Speed, so far, is what you will notice different about LC between the incoming version and the last couple of versions. Black is emerging as a good QB while the RB slots could be filled to overflowing (Jesse Keith,Dylan Napier, Jared Ammon, etc). Line size and experience is still a concern but the Cats are looking like a football team during spring practice. Center is a slot still needing to be filled and Caleb Nelson and John Walker are showing promise. It's just spring ball, but they look a lot better than they did at this time last year.

I don't see LC getting many (if any) CHS kids. If there are athletes affected by this BOE stuff, it will be a decade or better down the road before the effects are felt on the field, IMO. Most kids will stay put or pay the tuition to stay. That is all political stuff and not even worthy of fretting over yet. What happens there will happen. The injuries have been well documented on here. Mostly they are weird, out of the blue stuff. We have had bouts with Staph, bouts with Summer Flu, Roskoph injured his knee in '07 on a routine cut with no one really around him. I really don't see the injuries as conditioning or rough scheduling. It is just the luck of the draw and we have been unlucky. We have been hit with everything except ebola and the plague over the last 4 years! As far as losing in the first round of the playoffs as of late, we were the aforementioned knee away from doing something big (IMO) in '07 and have played just bad enough in the district to have to face LCA and Raceland in '08 and '09's first round. These same teams kept knocking out the frontrunners that were left in our district the week after they got us. Injuries kept us down some, I agree. The same teams that killed us, healthy or not, beat up the rest of our district afterwards. Raceland was just a little too strong and LCA was a different animal. Just classic class A football and the fortunes that go with it. NOW, that all said, here is what I think. Spring practice starts today at 5 pm. We get a glimpse of what will be available. I know for a fact that we have a sophmore-to-be class that is as dedicated (and overall more talented) than the '03 Cats that won the Region. Leadership was killing us as of late. IMO if we get two or three good leaders and the junior/senior class buys into walking the talk, we could see a reversal of fortunes over here at the Camp. I'll try to post more after a few days of spring practice.

I could be wrong on this, but I thought when the argument to use/not use the Arena for this thing that they (the powers that be) said the concessions would be about the same as if they were at a high school hosted tourney. Are they anywhere close? I have not been to the tourney and do not know, but I do remember this statement sticking out because we discussed how you could say something like that knowing you would have to pay workers the same regardless of prices. Just wondering. I have no dog in this fight. Some of the complaints on here are the same ones everyone feared when it was in the planning stages. Some could be first year hosting problems. If it is the first year problem, it will work itself out. If it is an ongoing situation, I am sure it will work itself out by the ADs at the schools shooting down the venue in the future. Like someone on here said, if you are hungry enough, you will pay the high cost for a hotdog. Same for hosting the tourney. If enough schools get fed up, situations don't improve to the schools liking and things don't work themselves out, this was a nice little experiment and we'll be back to the school gyms. Time will tell. Sounds like a little bit of confusion, a little bit of misunderstanding and a little bit of poor operations from what I have read on here. Enjoy the tournament!

No one gave a timetable on tradition. The OLD football references are sarcasm aimed at the tradition argument. You took the tradition side back almost 50 years in post #16 on here. I'll let it all go with the fact that talent wins the games, tradition is window dressing most of the time. It is fun to have and look back on, but the guys in uniform NOW have to be able to play to back that tradition up. We (LC) do not have the winning tradition that many speak of. BUT: That is not what got us booted out of the tourney. Bad Defense and less points than KC is what beat us. No ghosts from the 60's, No "Win One For The Gipper" theatrics, No local legends from days gone by showing up in the locker room and pushing the kids to victory. Athletes got beat by athletes that were better that night. Period. Talent trumped talent. I agree with you, UKFan8. They are fun to watch and P has made them dangerous when they are hitting on all cylinders. The Wildcats hold themselves back quite a bit. I have seen them come back from over 20 points down to have a chance to win many times and start playing not so smart ball again and cost themselves some remarkable comeback wins. I have also saw them come back from huge deficits and win while under control. If they could find some consistency they would be a very dangerous team. I love the offense that Coach P runs, I just wish that the D could find itself.

????? I still disagree that tradition trumps talent, but everybody will have their own opinion on it. Like I said, if you want to make a case for tradition over talent, I'll be seeing you at the 2011 BCS title game of Harvard vs Yale or Army vs Navy. The gridiron tradition of these institutions is beyond argument, but by your argument they are still powerhouses over the talented Florida, Ohio State and USC teams. Same for Temple, Seattle and NYU in basketball. Tradition is nice, but talent is better. Sometimes you get both and it is great.

Mostly: poor defense. Bottom line for this group of Wildcats. Score a lot of points but give up more. Near the top in the region in points scored, near the very bottom in points allowed. That will get you beat many times. That is why, HDE.

Not really, HDE. Just pointing out that tradition is something to hang your hat on, but it does not translate into a single point today. Take Kentucky basketball for example. We are on an uptick, but the kids leading the charge cannot even remember our real recent heyday. They are winning because they are talented, period.

I thought LC was the 2 seed and KC was the three, Les. Was I wrong on that? Not questioning upset/no upset, just the seeding. IMO, B'ville was the best team in the district this year and the rest were within 5 points of each other on any given night. KC was at home and got the 5 point win. No matter how you spin it, LC has won a couple of games against KC in the Here And Now. Also, I really can't see how the past traditions of both teams play into this that much anymore. Past is the past. Has no bearing on the two teams that played the other night. Not one player that scored 25 for LC or KC in nineteen-sixty-whatever scored a point the other night. If I just go by who has been "on top" longer, I would venture to guess, based on tradition, that we should go ahead and get ready for the Yale vs Harvard BCS Championship Football Game in 2011? By the "tradition" reasoning, both were the Top Dog in college football decades ago.

Final. Panthers avenge the earlier loss to the Cats. Congrats to KC for moving on and Congrats to LC for a good season of ball. Congrats go to Coach P for getting the 100 win milestone this season as a HC as well!:thumb:

It is actually a very entertaining game. If you like football in the cold, it is an awesome game!

I sub some when I am off work and I really don't see one day off for a coach breaking the system by calling in a sub. Teachers/coaches get days they can use as days off through the year, just as the rest of us get vacation days from work. No one gets to tell us how we pick our events for days off, so why should they have to answer the same question?

I said from the begining of this year I thought LCA would win it all and I still do.

Maybe Y'all can have football therapy???? JK. It's rough when the season ends for the team you pull for. You get used to the friday nights and seeing everyone and then "Poof" its all gone.....
