  1. That looks moreike a gravestone than a pitcher's mound. Maybe this was the day the entire maintenance/education sections for Knox County did not show up at LC to work their magic? Maybe this is the system bending over backwards for LC and giving them whatever they need again? Maybe this is the current administration in action? Maybe all of the above? CITH, are you more ruffled at change or at the fact that we have a system that treats LC like stepchildren or a huge thorn in their side? THIS is the crap that gets me. You are right. There is no way KC plays on a field like this unless they have to come down to LC.....
  2. hasbeen2, maybe you should spend some time over at the LC schools and see who spends the time there. I think you would be really suprised at who does not really spend the time they should there....
  3. I was against the agreement before, but as time has went on it is apparent that the kids do deserve better than what they are getting over here. The agreement would, if nothing else, force the Knox County indecision makers to improve the system from the inside out to make it more efficient, or keep losing kids to a system that does. IMO There are times I feel that the Knox schools are little more than glorified daycares and soap opera fodder. Kids are sent to the safe school for little more than the whim of the taskmasters that run the schools. Days lost at the "white house" due to tardies or late homework actually accomplishes what for the kid? Lockdowns seem to be more and more regular. (These often are apparently, as the local paper reported, written off as "drills".) Even to the situation that led to this thread. Who/where are the folks that should be watching these kids? It is becoming more and more embarassing over here as some of the stories make their way out.
  4. I know, CITH, I saw that too. Knox County has never, and never will, bend over backwards for LC. LC will bend over for Knox County, but the County does not even seem to look over its shoulder at LC, much less bend over backwards, go the extra mile, roll up their sleeves and fix this, enter your own cliche here. They do as little as possible for the western end of the county.
  5. It is not a matter of liking or not liking. It is a matter of not getting it done. Hulett has had more than enough time to do some things that are not getting done. We are backing up, not moving forward. It is not a matter of popularity, it is a matter of not getting it done. Hulett PROMISED the schools would be at the top academically in 5 years. Like him or not, it was a promise that was made and at some point you have to hold a person accountable for their position. Dave Mitchell has been held responsible for his in public, it is time for the others to be held accountable for their failures also. I personaly think there will be more that comes out of this firing, it will just take more time to get it all out. In the end, Coach will not be the only person held responsible in this incident IMO. You may feel like you are getting all you want out of your educational tax money, but I do not see it the same way. We'll have to agree to disagree about how these folks are attempting to educate kids and failing miserably at running a school system.
  6. You just nailed it, 4chs. IMO The powers that be (at LC anyway) are not going to stand up to Hulett. Someone may just take their cushy position if they rock the boat. I cannot see anyone from Knox talking to anyone else about how to fix things. They might be proven wrong and we can't have the infalibility of the high and mighty Knox County educational elite threatened like that! God forbid someone could show us how to fix this thing over here. This thing, in my prediction, gets driven into the ground beyond repair, the perpetrators are scattered and the state takes over. I honestly do not know how some of the Demigods over here can look at themselves in the mirror. I think it is near critical mass. The sooner that the state says enough, the better.
  7. LC will turn around athletically long before they turn around academically. Only salvation for LC and KC is state intervention. IMO Band aids are in place, bailing wire holds strategic parts together, blinders are firmly set and yes men/women are always there to tell the Super exactly what he wants to hear. Nero fiddles a tune as Rome come precariously closer to it's demise.
  8. As far as just deserving it, Allan Mitchell or Larry Parker would deserve a shot. I don't really see them hanging around due to loyalty to Dave, (I do not see most of the folks that were loyal to Dave sticking around much) but if they did want to, I can not see the administration seriously considering them. I think they want a clean sweep. More power to whoever they choose. Knowing Knox County the way I do, I do have the most complete and utter faith in them doing the exact most uncomprehisible decision making that can be made in the situation. Why would they start making good decisions now? The sooner the state steps in over here and does some house cleaning of their own, the better off the schools, students and taxpayers of the county will be.
  9. ff, I would like to see someone who cares about the kids and the school get the job. If they are in it for the wins and losses only this is going to be a nightmare for them IMO. You know and I know this is not an attractive job for most folks, so if someone is coming in here and taking the job and expecting to get things done like at traditional programs or with a "my way or the highway" mentallity they will be in for a huge suprise. Hard to play football, much less win, when you don't have the numbers. That said, I would like to see a young coach take it over. Someone with some sort of tie to the school or Knox County anyway. Someone like Burg has in Herron or KC has in Russell (he was an asst under Wayne). A top 5 would be hard to pick because of the situation over here, following Dave and our current administration woes. This will be a situation where you have to go with whoever has any interest in it. I do not seeing this being a fun job for the coach or an easy transition for the kids.
  10. And this would cover my Laurel County ties prediction. School system over here loves it some Laurel County......
  11. Job is posted this week from my understanding, BUT I would believe someone is the front runner. I still say it will be someone with Laurel County ties. I will not waiver on that until proven wrong. It seems like that is all that is hired for western Knox County jobs anymore due to something. Duncam and Sams both have the Laurel ties with North Laurel. I would think Greg would be an early favorite if I was guessing. Possibly someone close to the administrators or a family member of someone with most of the pull would have Laurel ties. Parker will not get the job IMO. I have heard from a few people who may put in for it, but politics will win the day with this one. Whoever breaks out the chapstick the fastest would be my guess.....
  12. We will have to wait and see who they hire. If it is a friend, relative or aquantince of the administration (or a Laurel County tie) your question will be answered. And that individual would think that the firing of Mitchell was a positive. Negatives do not factor into the incompetence that is the Knox educational system! You are giving way too much credit to the thought processes of these individuals that run our system right now. Power hungry, inexperienced and ill advised would all be in a description if I were to be asked about it all. I love the fact that Knox County felt they had scored a HUGE "get" when they hired Hulett........LOL! Laurel County laughed as a whole at our idiocy at that point. He promised that Lynn Camp Schools would be #1 in the state academically over two years ago in a meeting at the school in front of parents, teachers, God and everyone else. We must be backing up to get a running start at that goal. BUT: As bad as it has been getting all across the county, the puppet board voted a full endorsement on how he performs his job last year and gave him a LARGE $$$$$$ raise. I am going to guess that if the state comes in and takes over, the board will see fit to raise him to 500k a year.......
  13. EVERYTHING has some sort of political connotation in the LC/KC systems. Even when it is something like this, you can bet your farm that the wheels turned before decisions were made about how this would benefit someone.
  14. It will be a high school football Billy Gillespie version type hire in the end probably.....
  15. Well said, ST5.:thumb: I will be shocked if the Knox County system hires anyone with any true credentials for LC. IMO I am seeing a young and controllable coach or a relative/friend/friend of a friend/God- Knows- What kind of hire. As I said earlier, common sense seems to be dead in Knox County and you are wasting your time if you even try to make an educated guess at what they are capable of doing at and for LC in general. I picture a "did they really do that" type of scenario in the end. I do not see them hiring any of the assistants as the new Head Coach over there. I still say that the new coach will have some sort of Laurel County ties. The pattern seems to run that way for LC in general now. I guess the academic and sporting prowess north of here is just that awesome.....
  16. It is such a load of crap from everyway imaginable. The administration is horrendous and I hope and pray for the day the state comes in and handles what desperately needs to be handled at this school and the neighboring school. It is a sad, sad way to go for a man who dedicated his life to a system and the kids to be put out. I wish the school board over here had the guts to address Hulett and company the way they they should. Knox County is ran so bad that I can not even begin to describe it with words. This is just another example of their superior judgement. IMO this is a blessing in disguise for Coach. I am so sick of every stupid thing an individual does being someone else's fault. Has common sense died in this country? It has been dead in Knox County for well over 5 years now. Good luck Coach in all your future endeavors, and if you should ever find yourself across the sidelines from this bunch, pour it on. Loyalty died when the word "fired" finished echoing off the office walls. It has been a while since LC was LC and I don't see it ever being close to the same.
  17. Good to know he is healthy enough to coach again and things are good with his family. What a difference a year makes....
  18. Probably the best overall effort of the year for the Cats. A few breakdowns kept this game from being scary close. A freak knockdown ricochet TD catch with :01 on the clock for the Jackets to end 1st half. LC gave up 14 points in last 2 min of the half. This was not the best Mboro team I have ever seen, but they were ok. Physical game. Congrats to the Jackets and congrats to the Cats for finally showing some fight and a lot of heart.
  19. Best quarter and a half of football LC played all year. All fell apart after that. We were solidly "put in our place" as cnc78 would say.....
  20. Cats are still struggling to move the ball. Facing a young D may help a little, but I still see problems with few solutions. Burg can put points up off of mistakes and we tend to have mental lapses in games that allow for the big plays. This game is a battle most years and many years the team that should win manages to lose. I'm afraid the offense that Burg does have will be too much for the Cats. If the Cats can avoid the big mistakes and play power football (this is a challenge being thrown down for the O line) it could get interesting. Guess we'll see friday.....
  21. And on another side note, despite the love in, NO ONE EVER PULLS WHOLE HEARTEDLY FOR THEIR RIVALS! Michigan fans never pull for Ohio St. Alabama and UT fans do not pull for each other. Ever. We may claim that we pull for other teams to make nice, but few of the fans really do. It is a nice sentiment, but when UK is knocked out of the NCAA tourney, I do not instantly become a Blue and Orange blooded Florida fan. Few people do that. It is just human nature to be "us" and "them".
  22. I have a lot of friends that are Burg fans and talk with them weekly (some daily) and you would be suprised how little "ripping" of each other goes on. We are not very good this year, but I just took offense to the "in our place" refrence due to the fact that we were not projected to be great. As far as rooting or not rooting for district teams, I was stating facts as far as what we will be trying to hurrdle in a few weeks. Harlan and Hazard are the cream of the mountains in Class A right now. Burg has grown and developed and has been something to watch, cnc, but Harlan and Hazard have developed also. i am not saying that Burg's talent will not kick the crap out of Harlan and Hazard over the next few years, just saying that it probably will not be this year. 4CHS, I counted 10 kids we have lost for various reasons and at least 5 or more would have made a HUGE difference. Just the way it goes.
