  1. These are my favorites. Although I cant put them in order, I will comment on each. :fight: Tyler Wolfenbarker- Hard nose Kid, scrappy, good all round point guard in all aspects of the game. :walk: Alex Barker- Energizer bunny, always active and around the ball. good shooter. :jump: Chad Jackson- explosive quickness, good finisher, very athletic.( I wish he would start dunking when he has the chance though) :ylsuper: Matt Thomas- versatile athelete, Could play at the next level in two sports. :thumb: Faulkner twins:- winners, very competitive, great shooter's and all round great Kids.
  2. They are several good assisstant coaches in our region. Rose Hill's Clay Euton. The experience gained at the AAU circuit is invaluable and he has coached in several National tournaments. Nathan Sutton has proved that he is one of the best up and coming coaches with how he has stepped in at Greenup. Jerry Davis at Fairview would have to be in there also. A head coach for several years in Ohio and Cooksey's right hand man at Fairview.:jump: :jump:
  3. Your right! Greenup played very well early but lost a little focus with the big lead in the second half. (48-31) The whole team played well defensively. Wolfenbarker had a real nice game Offensively. (23 points) He is always hard nose and tough as nails. Middleton is getting better every game. He is starting to draw more attention defensively. Wrights played really hard as usual Travis had 8 rebounds .Brown Did a good job on Selby and had a good offensive game.. The team is really looking good at this point in the season. I believe they are a legitimate regional contender time will tell. schedule gets a little tougher next few weeks.
  4. I think even without Jackson Rose Hill can win. The tempo has to change but I think you'll see Fuller, Aurther,Bush and the rest of the Royals stepping up. vanilla thunder will get his. Royals by 15 with Jackson. Royals in a close one with out him.
  5. I know alot of the region coaches and I dont see the support your talking about. Pratt is his good friend what do you expect him to do. Wearing the t-shirts is not supporting the team it is taking attention away from the team. Your pretty hard on Sutton and Smith when all they have done is try to do the best they can in an messy situation. What have they done wrong for you to speak down to them. I think everyone will agree that they have done a tremendous job up to this point. This is a testament to how capleble they are of being head coaches.
  6. To be honest I really dont care about the Hick's supporters, I ONLY care about the kids and the program. As far as the Hicks supporters goes, Its just embarrassing to the whole school system. Answer me this. Do you think Making an issue about the coaching situation at the games is healthy for the team. Or should they quietly work out these problems behind closed doors and not expose the players to any more of this contraversy. Why isnt something released so we really know whats going on. Why is everything so secret. the only ones to this point getting hurt is the players.
  7. Vanilla Thunder is what he will become. Not quite yet there but for 15 years old, he is on his way. He has some broad shoulders, now we have to fill them out. He'll always be my "blonde Weasel":ylsuper:
  8. Nice first post. So your saying it is ok to break rules and still coach. Wonder why he is always under investigation?? So you dont give Sutton or Smith any credit because they wasnt at open gym. By the way where did Coach Tharp go is he on suspension. Was he there for Hick's or for the team. What do you think the players think about him abandoning them:thumb: . The unfortunute thing is kids are easily brainwashed by adults. Deep down they know the truth and that is why they are still winning!!! I've got a good one "WHY DONT THEY GET SHIRTS THAT SAY I SUPPORT GREENUP COUNTY BASKETBALL" havent seen parents wear to many of them lately.
  9. Fastbreak.................. Why dont you set a poll up on the names that people have come up with so far and see how it goes.
  10. I agree 100% with everything that you stated. I do believe once they decided to keep him alot of the stuff came up after the fact. I dont believe they were any problems until a complaint filed by a coach was withdrawn and sent up a red flag with the khsaa. That started all the investigations. Sometimes you can shoot your own foot off!!!
  11. I hope I havent left the wrong impression here. I dont want to see these kids have a misrable season. This coaching issue should be worked out at the board meetings or behind closed doors. The gym, on game night is not a place to show your support or if you dont support what is going on. That is the boy's time. Dont take that away from them. Today's Ashland Daily. They could have been another picture of a player in the game. Middleton shooting a jumper or Wolfy getting a steal or one of the Wright twins defending someone, but no, it had a picture of the adults sitting in the stands and the coach sitting there with them. Why does he sit with them? He never sit with them before the suspension. Why now. The focus needs to be on those young men on the floor. Thats why everybody pays their admission not to see the coach or the ref's but the players. When you think of Greenup right now all you think about is the contraversy going on. You dont think that they are 10-4 and is one of the top teams in the region. This is unfair to the players that have worked their who lifes to get to this point. Coaches come and go but this is some of these kids last chance.
  12. When you break khsaa rules you dont have a choice when you serve your suspension or any other rule for that matter. Mabe the administration feels that the players will do just fine without him. (which they are). So your saying even though they done an investigation and found wrong doing that they should turn their head and just let him finish the season. What kind of example is that setting for the students in the school system. As a coach under KHSAA rules you cant pick and choose when you want to take your suspension. If I had a player that was a senior that broke khsaa rules, I think I would just let him sit out after the season was over. That makes alot of sense. Its a whole lot easier to support some one openly than it is to not to support them. They was 1000 people at the game last night. 20 had support t-shirts on 980 didnt. How many of them dont support him???? how many dont care?? Who knows. You cant blame the administration for doing an investigation that was brought on by the KHSAA. They did their job. And to bash the superintendent in the paper is rediculous. He is the only reason he got to start this season. What are we teaching our kids? Our school Administration's time could be better spent on other important school issues. This is a distration to the whole school system.
  13. I dont believe that Raceland can handle Rose Hill's pressure. Johnson will want to slow the game down but the royals will control tempo with their big traps.:jump: Raceland has not seen a team as big and deceptively quick as the royals. They scored alot of points against better teams in the King of the Bluebrass. The suprise is Rose Hill is not as 2 deminsional as people think. They have people stepping up filling the holes and this makes them a legitimate Regional contender.
  14. I was at Greenup tonight. They played very well. Nice game plan by Coach Sutton. I saw something amazing. Greenup County is up on Boyd by 17 at one time. Nobody in the gym seems excited. It is a shame that the Adults in that gym dont have enough sense (especially the parents of the kids) to cheer for the kids and support them. Hicks has made this about himself and completely taken the attention away from the players. These boys have worked their whole life to get to this point, dont take that away from them. I heard about it but I didnt believe it until I seen it tonight. Wake up Greenup Supporter's NOBODY is bigger than the program. Shame on you. Put your kids and these players first. How do you think it makes them feel when there trying to play as hard as they can, and look up and see you sitting by the ex-coach with a shirt on supporting him. How is he suppose to listen to the coach in huddle or respect that coach. You are not hurting nobody but your own kid. He broke the rules, he has to life with it.The kids shouldnt pay the price. Dont let him take your kids season away. Especially the seniors. Get the focus back where it belongs. ON THE PLAYERS and TEAM. He will be gone, Mabe coaching at another school and these boys will never get this back once its over. What message is it sending to our kids that it is OK to brake the rules and we will look the other way and still suppport you. Does breaking the rules go on at other schools? YES does it make it right NO. What are we teaching our kids by supporting someone that has clearly done wrong. And the ones supporting him knows excactly what this is all about. These Kids have a chance to do something great. This team is good enough to make some noise at the Region but that's not gona happen without the support of the fans and especially the parents. Dont wait until its too late. Put the focus back where it belongs. ON THE TEAM:irked: :irked: :irked:
  15. I think it is rediculous that Greenup drop Home and Home with Boyd and Ashland. If they are a coaching change I think you will see These games picked back up. The administration should never let this happen. Its just taking money away from all the athletic programs. I think you will see Raceland on the schedule again also. If you made changes like that in the business world they would fire you on the spot. Makes no scense how someone let this happen. Greenup should never complain that the athletic fund has no money with stupid moves like that. If They want to make money throw Ashland and Boyd back on the schedule twice. Raceland twice. Wheelersburg, Ironton, Portsmouth and Huntington High. Speaking of Huntington High, Greenup signs a home and home with them goes to huntington and plays giving them a big gate and when its time for huntington( the #1 team in WV.)to come to Greenup last year Coach Hicks cancels. That money should come out of his paycheck. Why schedule teams from the 15th region that bring 25 fans when you could schedule local teams and make a good gate. I would rather Be 15-12 and have plaenty of money in the athletic budget than 18-9 and beg for 2 pair of shoes. go figure.
  16. Sorry fball I dont agree. Basketball was not created to be played like that. Thats why it is a foul to do this. I think you should play by the rules of basketball. You cannot chest, headbutt, elbow,or even talk trash. It is against the rules of the game. How can you say it is part of the game. That is excactly how games get out of hand. like last nights did. Turner over reacted and so did Coach Parsley when he took Turner from the floor. I agree with what Parsley was trying to do but not the way he did it. Kids dont need to be embarrassed by a Coach like that. 10 years ago you didnt see near the on court fighting as you do now. Everytime you have a loose ball, jump ball, it almost ends up in a fight. The game has gotten alot more agressive than in the past. It has changed alot, Now you can pull the ball (crossover) and put your hand on the side of the ball. In the past that was a carry. As long as your palm is not point up its not a carry. But I agree to disagree. There's different ways to look at it. As a parent, As a coach, As a fan, As a ref,as a principle.
  17. I think Coach Biggs has a good knowledge for the game. What I dont like is the freedom the players have on offense. I know Matt Thomas is the type of player that can create a good shot and alot of offense on his own. This would create for the rest of his teammates. Ashland has trouble scoring. Your not gona beat to many people scoring in the 50's. I believe also they have the wrong people shooting the ball too much and the right people not shooting enough. Matt thomas should ave. 12 to 15 shots a game and Mcdavid should also get 10 to 12 shots a game. the other players have to know their roles on offense. I however was impressed with Russell's zone it is very long and quick. Tough for anyone to get a good shot off. Ashland did get some good looks when they went inside out. Vanhoose is a great shooter. The walk that was called on Jon was not even close. Russell does tend to reach alot which turns into alot fouls. One thing I did notice and Scooter your gona like this. The top 5 scorers in the game was former Rose Hiller's Robinson,Vanhoose,Blair,Thomas,Mcdavid. I saw Vanhoose hit a big three and turn to the Ashland Crowd and go:sssh: :sssh: :sssh: :sssh:
  18. Does anyone know what time this game is to air on WSAZ tv???
  19. mabe we could run a poll on the names that have been mentioned on the forum. Im sure they would be alot of interest. Could you set that up fastbreak.
  20. What Bonner did last night reminded me of the district game a few years ago when Casey Clark did that and worse to Zach Gillum. I said it then and I say it now that is a cheap way to win or try to win. Play the game by the rules. This does'nt include head butting, chesting, pinching or throwing elbows to try to get someone frustrated enough to lose their cool. Most high school kids are gona lose it when that happens. Its not much fun when the ref's look the other way when this stuff goes on. :irked:
  21. They are allot of pairity with the top 6 teams. I believe each team could beat the other on any given night. Nobody Is that far ahead of anyone else. Russell has got beat by 2. and beat Greenup by 2 and was down to Raceland by a bunch. :fight:
  22. If and a big " IF" Greenup gets the Coaching problem worked out, you have to put them in this group.
