Murray vs Owensboro Catholic
I think the 63 points will be from the lack of overall defense on both sides. I think OCath and Murray are gonna have a hard time stopping each other. Caldwell only scored 31 so you may be correct.

Madisonville/Franklin-Simpson Predictions
I can't believe more people aren't talking about this matchup! I think that has the chance to be one of the best games of the night this Friday in Franklin. The Wildcats are led by senior speedster Jerry Billups and a very aggressive defense that flies around and makes plays as an entire unit. Madisonville meanwhile is loaded. The Maroons have a solid qb in senior TJ Phaup, but the weapons dont stop there. At the skill positions rb Jaron White and speedster Ryan Bowman pack a deadly punch that can score from any point on the field. Up front Madisonville features WKU lineman commit Cullen Reynolds and Chauncy Gilmore who's listed at 6'3 260 but I'd be willing to bet a big fat benjamin he's bigger than that. This game being in Franklin gives FS a home field advantage, but the Maroons are playing some great football of late. Madisonville seems very focused on getting their rematch with Owensboro and seeing if they can ride the train all the way to BG in December. Madisonville 28 Franklin Simpson 17

Warren East/ Owensboro Predictions
The Raiders will invade Rash Stadium this Friday at 7pm cst. The Raiders come in 8-3 and feature UK commit Eli Brown. The question is, can Brown get enough support from his teammates to get a huge road win in the playoffs? Most would say no, but I point to the game against Meade County in which Warren East lost 10-0 as an example that the Raiders can play solid ball if they put it all together. It's no secret what OHS is looking to do. The Devils are a option based running team with about 3 or 4 pass plays they use. The key to beating OHS is making the Devils pass. OHS features a defense that is still trying to find its groove after starting the season well. In the Henderson game, OHS' defense was gashed but the Devils were missing a few key players. In the end, I think the run game of OHS will be too much for Warren East as the Devils move on to the regional championship. Owensboro 56 Warren East 21

Murray vs Owensboro Catholic
This game is becoming a huge playoff rivalry in 2A football in western Kentucky. Murray seems to be the kryptonite to OCath but the Aces feature a team this year that is very versatile and can beat you in multiple ways. Defensively, OCath has a tough time stopping the run. However I think OCath is going to make Murray try and beat them with the pass. If Murray can run the ball at will on OCath, then the Aces are in trouble. However, if OCath can make Murray throw a little, that drastically turns the tide in the Aces favor. Offensively, I see OCath being able to do pretty much whatever they want. Murray's defense isn't exactly stellar and OCath can be effective running or passing the ball. The only thing that can trip up OCath offensively is turnovers. If the Aces can stay away from that, they'l win. At the end of the day, I see OCath's defense being able to make enough stops to get the job done. Owensboro Catholic 63 Murray 42

Owensboro/Breckinridge County Predictions
I just think from a shear talent standpoint that Madisonville should be doing better over the last few years. I've been tooting the horn of the Maroons because most people just look at their record in the past and assume they weren't very good. However they've always passed the "look" test. I do understand that the "look" test isn't always accurate but they've had talent over the past few years like the kid that went to Michigan (Jeremy Clark I think). Look at this year's Maroon squad...from a shear talent standpoint, I'd give them the advantage over OHS without hesitation. I'm not as plugged in to Madisonville football so maybe the coach is maxing their potential. I dunno.....

Owensboro/Breckinridge County Predictions
Brown, thanks for listening to the show. We're going to record a podcast tonight and I can promise that you won't want to miss this one. I think Locher missing wide open throws is a product of his lack of game reps throwing the football. Every year, OHS claims it's going to throw the ball a little more, but every year they revert back to the basic option play heading into the playoffs. At this point, it may very well be too late. They probably just need to stick with the basic option play, run some counters and reverses, and try to utilize some screens. Really, OHS doesn't need to throw the ball a lot because of their scheme. However, I do think they need to take a few shots down the field to keep the defenses honest. OHS can bring either Johnson or Barrett out of the backfield almost anytime they want and most defenses won't pick them up. As for the defense, they've been pretty dissapointing, especially the linebackers. I didn't realize that Crowe was out but I did know about Phillips and Tinsley. I think OHS needs to get Vasaad Greer on the defensive line. He's a guy that takes two blockers to block him which frees up the linebackers to make plays. OHS plays a 3-4 defense (which I love for OHS) but the defensive line has to take up blockers so the backers can step up and make plays. Sometimes OHS gets caught blitzing off the end and they leave gaps up the middle. All in all, I don't feel good about OHS making it to the state championship game. They are too predictable and good teams will take advantage of that. A couple of things working in their favor are that OHS is talented and Madisonville (who may have more talent) isn't well coached. I still think North Oldham probably comes out of the west.

Owensboro/Breckinridge County Predictions
OHS needs to work on some things in this game, most notably, the passing game.

4A Playoff Bracket
I like North Oldham to come out of the west. Highlands rolls in the title game to win their 747483993383892928283893939948587 championship. You highlands guys have no idea how privileged you are to have the community that you have. I envy you. Bowling green finally got "it" and jumped on board. I feel that OHS has the talent year in and year out to be on that level but so much would have to change and the bottom line is it will never happen.

BluegrassPreps.com Kentucky Class 4A Football Rankings for 10-27
OHS should drop to #5 at the minimum.

Henderson County 44 Owensboro 18
I'm not relieved. I think this game shows OHS is probably not gonna win the state title. That's what separates a team like Highlands and OHS. Highlands can still win against a team like Hendo if they play a C- game. OHS can't. OHS doesn't get better as the season advances. They never do. They had 9 fumbles against Collins last year and they don't develop their passing game so when a team can stop their run, OHS is typically "up the creek". This game was a reality check.

Henderson County 44 Owensboro 18
Yes as far as I know they did. OHS flat embarrassed themselves tonight. I guess it's a reality check for OHS fans.

Litkenhous Ratings 10/27
I wouldn't sweat it. Litkenhouse is no where near accurate. Maybe need to reformulate that calcuation!

Ketucky AP football poll 4A
Owensboro would disagree with that statement.

Will Highlands remain #1 in the new poll?
Think about that. Let that sink in. Ohio has really good hs football but the south has some unreal athletes.
-
Will Highlands remain #1 in the new poll?
Highlands best win is against Bryan Station and that is a very solid win. OHS has wins against #3 2A Owensboro Catholic, #5 5A Warren Central, and #5 4A madisonville. Here's the kicker: ALL THOSE GAMES WERE ON THE ROAD. In OHS' lone defeat to BG, they led for over 3 quarters. In highlands two losses, they weren't close. I know they'll leave highlands #1 but I think OHS has a legitimate argument for the top spot.
-
Will Highlands remain #1 in the new poll?
I agree that OHS would have lost against Columbus and Elder but would highlands have a better record against owensboro's schedule? I doubt it. Remember, this is highlands 2014 not the lorenzen, guidil, or towlesi teams. This highlands team is not the defending champs and may be getting votes based off their past success.
-
Will Highlands remain #1 in the new poll?
I think they will because of the quality of teams they lost to but more so the fact that they got so much history to show they deserve to be #1. However, OHS' only loss was to Bowling Green in a game that they led most of the way. In the end, it only matters who's #1 in December, but I'd like to see OHS ranked #1 again. It's been way too long!

Rank the remaining 5A teams
Must be nice to play on the weak side of the state. HHS starters will be lucky to play more than a half in SEMISTATE game! HHS has a great program, but are fortunate not to have to face good atheltic teams on the way to the finals.
