I agree with you Rickyp, she should be named Coach of the Year. Unofficially I think that she has been named this by BGP people. However, there is a bias against Private School/Rose Hill among coaches in the 16th Region and I would guess that when the votes are counted she may come up short. Wasn't Jeff Hall named Coach of the Year for the entire State of Kentucky one year, yet in that same year the "fellow coaches" in the 16th Region named Don Daniels coach of the year? By the way Rickyp, what is that Avatar all about, there must be a story there somewhere?

I agree with you Ace :thumb: I think Coach Euton did a good job of holding together a team that potentially could have self-destructed. I know that they had some bumps along the way, but the bottem line is that there are no teams in the 16th Region (boys or girls) that are still playing.

There is no doubt that Rose Hill is the favorite. Does anyone besides me think that the long layoff between the first round game and the semifinals probably hurts the teams. I just think that long periods of time between games this time of year leads to teams going stale. Most players are sick of practicing and it makes it hard on the coach to keep everything fresh. What does everyone else think?

If ANYONE gets Rose Hill in early foul trouble they can be beat. That's their achillies heel, an extremely shallow bench. Rose Hill is best when they take the game to the other team...but that agressiveness can get them in foul trouble.:banana:

I predict Rose Hill over Russell in one semi-final; and Boyd County over Raceland (who upsets West in the opening round). Then Rose Hill punches their ticket to Diddle Area by beating the Lady Lions by 15 points in the finals! :dancingpa

Two good, well coached teams. I think that Russell has the better talent, but Coach Trimble gets the most out of the cards that he has. Good luck in the Region.

It was a great and entertaining game to watch. Barker's three pointer with the foul called on McDavid was a key. Also, I thought that everytime Ashland was able to get the ball to McDavid in the post good things happened for the T-Cats. I thought the better team won, Coach Cooksey has done an outstanding job with his team and they deserve to be called champions.

Eight points in the 2nd half...that's pretty pathetic. For Russell to be successful VanHoose and Blair have to combine for 35 points. Tonight they combined for 12. VanHoose "led" Russell with 8 points. You can't chalk all of that up to Greenup's great defense.

For my 2 cents I rate them as: 1. Fairview 2. Elliott 3. Russell 4. Ashland 5. Greenup 6. West Carter 7. Rowan 8. Menifee County

That is so true right now. He is trying to play a 2-guard when he could be a 4 in high school. He has an outside shot, but he needs to be a better rebounder. I think that will come with experience.

It all depends on the criteria that you use. Is it the coach with the best talent? or the coach with the best record? the coach that has the most wins? or the coach who accomplised the most with the talent they have. My vote goes to Coach Fraley because I think that he accomplished the most with the talent that he had.

I agree spindoc...don't misunderstand by previous posts. I think that Drew is a great kid and a great leader on his team. However, I believe that in college he may be wearing a helmet and pads rather than shooting a basketball. Regardless, I also still believe that Euton will be playing D1 basketball at a mid-major to major university.

Both players got caught up because, I suspect, both players were told by their respective coaches that shutting down the other player was a key to victory and it was their job to shut down the other player. However, I still think that you are looking at an 8th grader shutting down a senior as opposed to a senior shutting down an 8th grader. I like McDavid, and I think that he is one of the best in the 16th Region, however, Euton's basketball future is much brighter.

It was a predictable win for the Tomcats. I really believe it would have been a completely different game if Rose Hill had stepped up the pressure and pace earlier in the game. You can't let a Flynn-coached team dictate the tempo or it's a recipe for disaster. This time of year Flynn wants the game to be low scoring and slow (unless they are blowing someone out). If a team plays into that you are probably staring at a loss at the end of the night. That may be the last time a Rose Hill team does not go to the Region for many years to come, assuming Coach Fraley is able to keep the natives happy and everyone sticks with the program.

Having Jeff Hall may not have helped either, I believe the Eagles had some defections because of Coach Hall's presence. As far as 16th Region wins for Rose Hill, the Boyd County win was the 1st in a few years. They did beat Lawrence County earlier this year, which was a member of the 16th Region last year.

I agree that Coach Perry and Coach Cooksey have both done outstanding jobs this year. And I also agree that Rose Hill's wins aren't all quality wins, however, they have had some close tough losses against teams they were not expected to hang with. The Boyd County win was a quality win, but you also have to figure in the emotional aspect of that night. My point about Coach of the Year is that if you base it on the job that the coach has done with the talent he was given, then you have to consider the job that Coach Fraley has been one of the best in the 16th Region. If it strictly on wins and losses, then my vote goes to Coach Perry.

I am new at this whole thing on BGP, but I wanted to throw in my two cents on this game. Although I would love to see a Rose Hill upset, I think that Coach Flynn will have his team "tournament ready" as usual. Rose Hill has arrived back on the scene a little quicker than everyone expected and if they keep their players (which has always been an ongoing struggle for Rose Hill..check area team's starters) than they will be a force to reckon with for years to come. I think their head coach has done an outstanding job this year and he should get some votes for 16th Region Coach of the Year. I will be at the game and looking for it to be close.
