South Oldham is 8-1 after routing North Bullitt 57-6. Shelby County is 6-3 after losing to Collins 19-38. South Oldham started the season with a 14 pt loss to Christian Academy of Louisville. Since that game the Dragons are 8-0 bulldozing threw their schedule scoring an average of 44.8 pts per game while allowing just 5.8 pts per game. Shelby County started strong with a 4-1 non district schedule, but went 2-2 in district play. Can the Rockets spoil the Dragons Senior night?

Christian County is 9-0 beating North Hopkins 49-12. Paducah Tilghman is 4-5, beating Fort Campbell 42-8. Christian County has stayed in the 5A top 5 all season as they on course for a perfect regular season. But these undefeated Colonels have done it a little different than the other Colonels. Christian County has been battle tested and won several close games including a 6 pt win at Henderson County, a 3 pt win over Hopkinsville and two weeks ago outlasted Graves County with a 21-14 overtime win. Paducah Tilghman is on a 3 game winning streak. Can the Blue Tornadoes get the win on Senior night and spoil the Colonels perfect regular season?

South Warren is 7-2, lost to Bowling Green 7-43. Owensboro Catholic is 6-3 after beating Todd County Central 61-6. South Warren had been the surprise Darkhorse after moving up a class to 5A this season starting off 7-0. Now the Spartans look to end a 2 game losing streak. Can They re-group and get a road win? Owensboro Catholic cruised thru their district and will be the 1 seed, but before the playoffs they face their 3rd 5A opponent of the season. The Aces dropped both games to Owensboro and Apollo. Can they get the big Senior night win? Who wins and why.

Bowling Green is 7-2 after a big win over South Warren 43-7. Bullitt Central is 6-3 after beating Nelson County 54-7. Naysayers were doubting the 2 time defending Champion Purples after they lost to PRP and St. X. However Bowling Green has not lost to a 5A team since the 2014 playoffs. Can the host Cougars get the upset on Senior Night, or do the Purples handle business as they prepare for another playoff run?

Covington Catholic is 9-0 after beating Dixie Heights 49-6. Campbell County is 6-3 beating Boone County 54-7. Covington Catholic has bulldozed thru their schedule and look to finish the regular season undefeated. Campbell County has won some good games but losses to common opponents Highlands and Ryle doesn’t seem to give the Camels much of a chance on paper. Can Campbell County pull and upset and play spoiler or does Covington Catholic get the perfect regular season in their 50th season?

Fern Creek rolled over Fairdale as the 25 Seniors celebrated Senior Night. This was one of many games that had an expiremental 7 person referee crew with the addition of 2 additional deep refs labeled Side Judge and Field Judge. This is same as NCAA. I was told the 7 person crews will be in affect from 3rd round on this season in the playoffs. Fern Creek got the ball first at own 42 after a failed onside attempt. 3runs by Dylan Dunbar capped by 1yd TD, Brayden Oberhausen kick Fern Creek 7 Fairdale 0 11:38 1st qtr. Fairdale fumbled the kickoff on the return and was recovered by Jaron Lacy for FC. Another 3 play drive resulted in a 5 y TD run by Dunbar, Oberhausen kick. Fern Creek 14 Fairdale 0 11:00 1st. Fairdale then put together a 12 okay 48 y drive getting down to FC 24 yardline but an interception in the endzone by Travis Coley ended the drive and set FC up on own 20. FC had another 3 play scoring drive a 2 yd Keeper for TD by Rayshawn Nelson, was set up by a 70 y pass from Nelson to Melvin Blakey IV. Oberhausen kick Fern Creek 21 Fairdale 0 1:35 1st qtr Fairdale went 3 and out, Fern Creek only took 2 plays to score, a 21 y pass from Nelson to Quartus Hearn. Fern Creek went for 2 and got it on pass from Nelson to Matthew Quiggens. Fern Creek 29 Fairdale 0 11:55 2nd qtr Fairdale again went 3 and out and Anthony Teague went for 69y TD on first play, Oberhausen kick, Fern Creek 36 Fairdale 0 9:52 2nd qtr, and we have a running clock early. Fairdale got a first down but then stalled and had to punt, Armon Wells blocked the punt and Matthew Quiggens picked it up and returned it to Fairdale 25. Damon Durrah ran twice and scored on a 15 y run, Oberhausen kick, Fern Creek 43 Fairdale 0 was the score at the half. Fairdale went 3 and out to open the 2nd half and Fern Creek put together an 8 play 64 yd drive capped by LeSean Gray’s 1 yd TD run. Gray also kicked the point and then kicked off as well. Fern Creek led 50-0. At end of 3rd qtr. Fairdale put together an 8 play 72 yard drive and scored on 7 yd pass from Trey McCoy to Herbert Helton, Caleb McGinty kick. Fern Creek 50 Fairdale 7 6:03 4th. Fairdale recovered the onside kick (Fern Creek’s only turnover) and marched 5 plays for 42 yards, scoring on a 22 y pass from McCoy to Jacobi Dixon, the TD was as final horn sounded, no PAT was attempted the referee signaled the game was over and the officials quickly left the field. Fern Creek scored on every possession and did not have a single 3rd or 4th down in the game. The Tigers had just 22 plays but ran 18 times for 276 yards and completed 4 of 4 passes for 107 yards. Time of possession was skewed by running clock for almost 3 quarters but Tigers just had the ball for 11:06. Fairdale had 39 plays, rushing 27 times for 92 yards, and completing 6 of 12 passes with 1 interception for 58 yards. With 7 officials there were just 3 accepted penalties 2 on a Fern Creek for 15 and 1 on Seneca for 15.

On year North Bullitt at Atherton was moved because someone had turned all the lights at Atherton’s field up towards the sky. I think it was played the same night at North Bullitt. I wasn’t there just remember it happening, I think it was late 90’s

I think Coach Hawkins said for the 27th, which is next Friday at North Hardin.

Doss is 5-3 after beating Iroquois 36-6. Atherton is 5-4 after beating Fairdale 55-20. Doss has won the district title and looked up the 1 seed in the playoffs. Atherton has locked up a playoff berth but could be a 3 or 4 seed, depending on how the 3 intra district games play out this Friday. The Fern Creek vs. Fairdale game wouldn’t affect seeding. To get a 3 seed Atherton needs Iroquois to beat Southern. An Atherton win over Doss puts them at 3-2 in district, and an Iroquois win over Southern puts them both at 2-3 giving Atherton the 3 seed. If Doss beats Atherton and Iroquois beats Southern then Atherton, Iroquois, and Southern are all 2-3. Tiebreaker in that instant would fall to points from non district games, and Atherton would get the 3 seed. If Southern beats Iroquois they would get the 3 seed regardless if Atherton beats Doss due to the head to head victory over Atherton. Do the Rebels have a chance to knock off the Dragons?

Highlands is 3-5 after getting losing to Covington Catholic 0-52. Greenwood is 3-5 after beating Grayson County 41-6. Can the Gators get a Senior Night win hosting the Bluebirds?

Southwestern is 6-2 after beating Lincoln County 48-7. Pulaski County is 4-4 after beating South Laurel 29-8. The district title is up for grabs in the cross county battle. They both lost to Madison Southern, Southwestern 20-23, Pulaski County 21-60. Last season the teams played twice, Southwestern won the regular season game 21-6, however Pulaski County won the 3rd round playoff game 41-27. Who wins?

Madison Southern is 6-2 after beating Woodford County 41-10. Anderson County is 6-2 losing to Montgomery County 23-33. A huge district matchup, a Madison Southern win makes them district champs, Montgomery County would be 2nd, Anderson 3rd, Woodford 4th. However if Anderson County wins, Anderson County, Madison Southern, and Montgomery County would all be tied at 2-1 with Woodford 4th (assuming a Montgomery win over Woodford) and playoff seeding determined by a tie-breaker. Last season Madison Southern won 28-21, can Anderson get their revenge?

South Oldham is 7-1 after beating Bullitt Central 42-7. North Bullitt is 2-7 after losing to Bullitt East 19-40. South Oldham has already clinched the district championship, and QB Drew Zaubi is getting hot as the regular season is wrapping up. Who wins?

Christian County is 8-0 after an overtime win 21-14 over Graves County. Madisonville North Hopkins is 5-3 losing last week to Logan County 21-23. The teams share 3 common opponents: MNH lost to Owensboro 11-41, beat Marshall County 49-29, beat Hopkinsville 35-20 CC. Beat Owensboro 48-27, beat Marshall County 37-6, beat Hopkinsville 15-12 The Maroons look like the may be able to give a good game to the Colonels, but Christian County has been battle tested with 3 wins by a touchdown or less. Who wins.

Covington Catholic is 8-0 after a 52-0 rout of Highlands. Dixie Heights is 3-5 and coming off an open week. Comparing common opponents does not bode well for Dixie’s chances, they lost to Highlands 0-47 in the last game. Can the Red Colonels keep it close and have a shot against the Blue Colonels?

I was not there but was told final was 31-12. That St X did not have an offensive TD, scoring on defense and special teams. Fern Creek had 2 TD on offense, missed both conversions.

For those that don’t know Atherton Head Coach is Ken Walker, an Atherton alum. He is the longest tenured JCPS coach and one of the nicest guys in the city. He was an assistant coach under Russ Gibson at Fern Creek in mid 90’s, then bounced around the city before becoming the Head coach at Shawnee then moving to his alma mater. Happy for Coach Walker and the Rebels.

I think this was from a speech at Nike Coaches clinic in Louisville given years ago by Urban Meyer when he was at Florida. He basically implied that some of the most successful teams in KY HS football were like that because they worked harder. It was not well received. I don’t think he understood how it sounded but it insulted about 3/4 of the large crowd of hundreds of coaches. It wasn’t at a small clinic but at the large speech in the evening in the ballroom. Not to start a debate but Urban has been at Notre Dame, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State, he hasn’t exactly roughed it. And not saying that coaches at the power high schools don’t work hard but it’s a different animal at some programs. Urban wouldn’t understand the different struggle to coach at a Shawnee or Iroquois. The budget only allows a handful of coaches, most neighborhood kids go elsewhere if they want to play sports, keeping players eligible is one of the biggest struggles, and more.

Owensboro is 3-4 coming off a much needed win over Marshall County 56-6 ending a 3 game losing streak. Apollo is 5-2 losing to Christian County 21-43. The teams have a couple common opponents: Apollo beat Owensboro Catholic 31-24 and lost to Christian County 21-43 Owensboro beat Owensboro Catholic 47-12 and lost to Christian County 27-48 Last season Owensboro won 35-14, can a much improved Apollo Eagles team get revenge or do the Red Devils prevail?

Southwestern is 5-2 after beating South Laurel 64-23. Lincoln County is 3-4 losing to Pulaski County 20-41. Last season Southwestern won 37-7. Can the Patriots use some “Death Valley” mojo to get the win, or will that have no affect on Coach French and the Warriors? Who wins?

Madison Southern is 5-2 after a 36-30 win over Montgomery County. Woodford County is 0-7 losing 14-44 to Anderson County. Last year Madison Southern won 49-7. Do the Yellow Jackets have chance or will the Eagles soar?

Fern Creek is 4-4 after losing 20-21 to Doss. Southern is 3-4 after beating Fairdale 30-19. Last season Fern Creek won 41-34. Both teams are 2-1 in district and the winner of the game looks to secure the #2 playoff seed.

Christian County is 7-0 after beating Apollo 43-21. Graves County is 4-3 beating Marshall County 55-20. They have 2 common opponents : Christian County beat Marshall County 37-6 and Caldwell County 27-10 Graves County beat Marshall County 55-20 but lost to Caldwell County 10-27. Who wins?

Bowling Green is coming of a bye week and are 5-2 this season. Barren County is 0-7. Bowling Green has not lost to a 5A team since Graves County on Nov 21, 2014. Barren County just doesn’t seem up to the task having scored just 27 points this season while allowing 329 (2nd most in 5A).
