Maybe. On the flip side though, high school basketball teams haven’t had district tournaments yet. Baseball hasn’t started playing games. I assume most football off-season programs are in their early stages. The season is around 6 months from opening kickoffs. Yes, it’s later than some, but I wouldn’t call it “late” yet. Now if a school makes a change during spring break, now that would be a different story!

Mark Payne has stepped down as Head Coach of Madison Southern. I wish Coach Payne the very best luck. He is a good man. Any names for this job potentially?

Has East had any transfers from West? Looking over things and West really, really struggled last season with a group I expected to be better. I was curious if East is taking advantage.

I didn’t mean it as a slight toward Lincoln, just as a reality for East Jessamine. If the Jags want a winning season, I think the Lincoln game has to be a win. They may be loaded, but they also haven’t had a winning season since 2021, so it’s not a game that should be a automatic “loss” for East.

9/19-10/3 will define the season. No reason not to beat Lincoln, Madison Southern, and Lafayette. Win all 3, and it’s a very good year for East.

Any news here? Is Combs the guy or has it been opened up for applications?

I would assume that coaching in your hometown would be a rewarding struggle, to say. You will make friends that turn into enemies when things go south. You will put your trust into people who will help you, while trying to find your replacement plan. The administration will support you financially, while criticizing your job performance to their colleagues in the school. Did I leave anything out? Seriously though, I feel like this could be very rewarding to most. Things will mean "just a little bit more" as they say. When done correctly and with success, I would have to think it's the top of the mountain for most coaches? Also, I find it interesting the amount of coaches who either choose NOT to coach in their hometown, or their hometown chooses to not allow them. Very interesting dynamic. I've not done it, and won't. I do respect and appreciate those who try and tackle it.

Thought the previous coach did as good of a job as anyone could. The job is in a better place.

Tough job. Wins/losses usually influence most of these decisions, but I'd be very surprised if you could find a better man than Bret Baierlein. I know he was trying to build his program the correct way. Hopefully Coach lands on his feet somewhere!

Vanderpool just announced his resignation on Facebook, per his account.

Foley is a really good football coach. Would be a very solid hire, if any real interest.

Kentucky lost a true giant in the game. The impact that Coach had so many countless lives, the impact he had on the game, the impact he had on the state of Kentucky. So sorry to hear this, and love and prayers to Coach’s family during this time.

Had not heard this. Huge hit to Coach Yeast and Mercer County.

Seems like a more "favorable" non-district schedule to say for the Rebels in 2025. Adding Lexington Catholic and Bardstown to the district won't help the win/loss ratio. I often spend time in the KHSAA record books, and in 2024 the Rebels had their first 0-10 season since 1997. Pretty sure they won a district championship in 2022, but that may need to be checked. Hopefully things improve for the Rebels!

Eddie James and Mark Peach, two big time winners. The Flyers will be right in the mix of things in 2025.

Most jobs don't hire until after the Christmas Break for schools. While coaches may leave, traditionally the next hire isn't made until January. I understand this is a big job, but I think the process is being played out as most do. They'll make a good hire!
