I would run the ball right at them until they prove they can stop you. Then when they put 8 or 9 guys in the box I would go to my play action and RPO package. I don’t think CC has the size up front to stop them. They have lots of good skill guys but they are pretty young and undersized up front. I think they are going to be really good but not until next season. Highlands going away.

I’m just saying that I was at the scrimmage and I watched Ryles Oline warm up 50 feet from me and I didn’t see any 6’6” 330 lbs or 6’5” 280 lbs. kids. So either they were not at the scrimmage or they don’t exist. That’s all I am going to say about this game until Saturday morning then we will see who is correct in their evaluation. I am sticking with my opinion that Highlands will win going away.

They must have had 4 or 5 kids from the O line missing in the Beechwood Scrimmage because I didn’t see any linemen for Ryle that had the measurements that you just listed. I guess we will find out on Friday. I say Highlands going away.

Lexington Catholic was a scrimmage and I have been very consistent with my opinions about scrimmages. Most coaches use scrimmages to work on specific things and assess their personnel and that’s it nothing more nothing less. I think Highlands is definitely one of the best 5A teams in the state. Their O line is one of the biggest and best in the state and should be the strength of their team this season. I think they will play bully ball with CC and push them around. That is my opinion and we all know what they say about opinions.

If Ryle was able to score 30 on CC then Highlands will really light up the scoreboard. They have one of the biggest Olines in the state and CC is a little undersized up front. I think Highlands wins this one going away.

No Beechwood who beat a really good 5A team but you have Cov Cath who looked really disappointing. I guess we will find that out in a few weeks.

You take out the first TD drive where Beechwood played a 3 man front and then a 82 yard TD where Beechwood missed 2 open field tackles and the defense actually played pretty good. Most teams will try to run the football on Beechwood and control the clock so I think the 4 man front will be much more effective against the run. The big kid from Moeller made a big difference when he was in the game on defense. Offense looked a little out of synch early. Hayden missed a few throws that he usually doesn’t miss. He still played a great game. I think Beechwood puts a running clock on Campbell this week.

To me this was the biggest surprise of the weekend. Either Ryle is much better than I thought or CC is much worse than I thought. I am sure we will find out that answer in the next few weeks.

This was the one game this week that I was most sure of. I thought Highlands would put a running clock on LC. I guess that’s why they play the games.

BS kept it much closer than I anticipated.

Now maybe those Pikeville fans will shut up for a week. Nice win for the Redhounds.

I think Boyle will put a running clock on LCA this year. With no Boley and no Hensley I don’t care if they have the Dallas Cowboys O line Boyle is going to put it on them.

I agree 100%. Honey Badger seems to have the inside scoop with Newport. I hope Starks stays. I think if he stays they will build the team around him. If he keeps growing he will be a power 5 kid by next season. I don’t think they win a state championship without Tae but I still think they can win the 9th.

Pulaski is definitely a long shot in this one. But don’t forget they have a huge O line led by a tackle who is a power 5 recruit and a RB who rushed for almost 1400 yards last season against a really good schedule. They will try to run the ball, control the clock and keep the Beechwood offense off the field. If they can effectively do this they could be in the ball game late and then it’s anybody’s game. I’m still sticking with the Tigers.

it is so hard to know this early in the season. So you have to go on what you know. I know Higlands is loaded with talent, size and speed and I know that LC lost a lot of their key players from last year. I also know that in their preseason scrimmages Highlands has looked very good and LC looked bad against a OK Simon Kenton team. I also saw that KSR had LC in their preseason top 25 and Highlands was no where to be found so I can guarantee you that they will have a chip on their shoulder. I think Highland wins this one by 3 TDs.

Highlands is probably a top 10 team and Owensboro also belongs on this list. I also think Scott County is much higher than 24. And I love Boyle County but Trinity is the best team in the state. Other than that it looks pretty good.

I love Coach Woody. He has done so much through the years for those kids in Ludlow. I hope Ludlow has a great season and Coach Woody gets the credit he deserves. Go Panthers!

JJ I 100% agree with your breakdown. You didn’t mention the Beechwood line and I think Beechwood’s O line and D line are going to be bigger more athletic and much improved.

What ever happened with the kid from Pittsburgh that was supposed to be transferring to Newport. I think he was a 3 star recruit and looked to be really good. Anyone have any info on this?

Staff is trying to not play all the linemen both ways. They have some depth up front this year so should be able to rotate guys in and stay a little fresher. 2 of their linemen have D1 offers and 3 others are returning starters. I was at the radio show last week and Coach Volker said their average size this season is around 6’2” 235 lbs so much bigger than last season. The new kid is 6’4” 265 and he started at Moeller last year. Most of the players were there and they look much bigger. Based on that I would say the Beechwood line should be pretty good this season. They moved the Waddell kid to middle linebacker where Campbell played last season so we really don’t lose much there. Hopefully Maddox Kelly and the kid from Moeller can create some pass rush to pressure the QB. DBs are almost all returning so should be really solid on the back end. OLB is only question on defense and one of the younger kids (Aylor) has really stepped up there. So based on this I think the Beechwood defense and O Line should be really solid this season.
