Congrats to LCA on a great game. What impressed me most was how hard they ran the ball. Those guys didn't go down on 1st contact and even when Mayfield had them pinned back behind the chains, they'd find a way to make a big play and get out of it. The Cards D actually played pretty well, but, LCA dominated field position. I don't care how good you are, when you consistently start drives in enemy territory, it's tough to consistently stop them. Mayfield's oline didn't allow any sacks and had some open receivers, but, for whatever reason, Robbins was a little off on his accuracy all night and LCAs DBs did an outstanding job in coverage. Mayfield could not turn the field position and that was the theme all night. Also, you can't give up 2 early TDs and have to play whole game in catch up mode. I thought Mayfield played competively after that initial onslought, but, couldn't make a full comeback. LCA has great size and athleticism in the trenches. Good luck next week against Belfry. Should be a great game.

Well if Belfry were to get upset by Breathitt, then they would travel to OB Cath and Beechwood would travel to the Mayfield/LCA winner.

Congrats to the Red Hounds. They controlled this game from start to finish and made a statement. If they play like this next week, they'll find their way into the title game.

The talent level didn't just disappear. The problem they've had is getting these talented players playing again. Many have left the program because of the state of the programs. Noone wants to play on a ragtag team lucky to win a couple of games and lucky to have 100 fans filling the seats. Poor leadership, poor fan support. That's what needs to change. I don't think either team ever got many players from Trigg or Russellville. A few here and there, yes. A steady flow of talent, not so much. The majority of talent these 2 teams have had over the years are from right there in Christian Co.

There's a ton of potential here if they can make a good hire. That persons top priority is to get the fanbase united and bring the excitement back to the program. Secondly, get the best athletes on the field. The talent between these 2 programs should be right up there with anyone if they can do this. Then develop the elementary and middle school programs up for the future.

Yeah, but, imo, Manual is 2-3 TDs better than the Purples. Atherton competed very well with a great team. This was the only team that had any success offensively against Atherton and I don't think BG will be able to exploit them that well. I'm sure BG will put together a few explosive plays and score 17 to 21 points, but, unable to consistently move the chains. Atherton's defensive athleticism will keep them hanging around and the O will be able to manufacture just enough to get the win. A 21 BG 17

Yes, Torres is a starting DB and a big loss, but, Mayfield is deep at that position and have others that can do the job. They basically go 2 deep at every position on D with very little falloff. IMO, if LCA wins, it'll be through the air. I don't think they'll be able to just pound the ball on the ground. So, from that aspect, the Torres loss hurts from a depth standpoint, but, nothing that they can't overcome.

I feel like the Jackets have been flying under the radar pretty much all year. They have the talent to win this game, but, it's going to be tough to go into Pikesville and win. Pkv. has loaded up their schedule again, as usual and will be well prepared, but, an outcome either way won't surprise me

What you've got in this game is 2 very good teams that are both capable of winning. IMO, Mayfield was a young team last year with the majority of their playmakers being sophomores and juniors along with a 1st year sophomore qb. This year, those guys are a year older, stronger and more mature. The depth and talent in the newcomers is also improved. Overall, I think this years team is considerably improved. I'm not sure that this is enough to go on a 5 hour bus ride and knock off a great LCA team, but, I feel they have a great shot of coming out on top. I'm confident the Cards will put together some explosive plays and put up some points and I feel their D will be able to somewhat slow down the LCA offense. Hopefully, that will be enough to get them over the hump to come out on top.

I like Boyle in this one. CC got them last year, which has rarely happened and the Rebels will come into this game highly focused and motivated. CC is coming into this one off of a tight, hard hitting battle with previously unbeaten JC while Boyle cruised to a one-sided victory over Wayne Co. and played alot of JV players in the 2nd half. I think the Colonels will put together a few good drives and score 2-3 TDs, but, I don't see them being able to stop the Rebels offense enough to pull this one out. BC 35 CC 21

The Murray Tigers are playing about as well as you could hope for. They have all the offensive fire power you could want and now the defense is playing at a high level, as well. I like their chances at home next week against Lex Cath and if they win that one they'll either travel to Lloyd or be at home vs Bell Co/Lawrence Co winner. I like their chances against either of those 3 teams. If they make it to the finals, I think CAL may be too much for them, although I'd give them the best chance to upset CAL as I would anyone else.

To me, this game has upset written all over it. Apollo has a solid offense that can put some points up. BG is still BG, but, they're a little down on the offensive side of the ball this year, both through the air and on the ground. I see this game being in the 20's for both sides. The winner will need to win the turnover and penalty games. If Apollo comes out on top in those 2 categories, they'll have a great chance of pulling this game out.

Greenwood is a pretty good team. I could see them competing and hanging around but when it gets down to it, the Devils take care of business, 31-14..

This should be one of the better games across the state this week. Could go either way, but, it's usually better to go with the home teams in these type match ups. So, give me Lawrence Co. by 7..

I realize O'Boro lost handily in the 1st 2 games, but, I'd also say there isn't a 5a team out there that would have faired any better against those 2 teams. While the schedule has been easier since then, they've still been dominant against some pretty decent teams. and I don't see any other team from out west to challenge them till the semi's. Atherton would be the 1 team I'd be concerned about. I think this is just an off year for B. Green and would expect the Devils to beat them pretty handily this year. Once they get to the semi's, they'll be challenged by Woodford, Pulaski, Cooper & Scott Co, but, I'd give them a solid chance to win it all.

If Hancock expects there running game to pull them through, then they're most likely in trouble. Mayfield hasn't given up over 100 yards rushing in a game all year. Plus, if Hancock's DBs press the line, the Cardinals WRs and QB will torch them over the top all night long. Hancock may hang around for a quarter or 2, but, when the final whistle blows, the Cards will have a comfortable 30-40 point victory.

I think this is a good matchup for JC. CC has a more grind it out running game, which plays to JCs strength. I think JC stops the run well enough to force CC to beat them through the air, which they're capable of doing, but, not as likely as them running about 80% of the time and dominating the trenches. I also think JC's OL is strong and athletic enough to effectively move the chains against the CC D. If they can come away with TDs in those drives and not turnover or fg attempts, they should be right in the game. I'm going to say JC 27 CC 24

Mayfield will be extremely hard to beat with just a run game. The Cards have been very stingy against the run all year. Pad Tilghman even had less than 100 yards rushing against them.

I'm surprised at the score in this one. I predicted Hancock to take it, but, more on the 7 point range. Maybe Hancock is a little better than I thought or Caldwell's a little weaker than I thought or maybe the combination of the 2. If Hancock plays their A game and Mayfield has an off game or more turnovers than normal, could Hancock compete and possibly even upset the Cardinals?

I like Sayre at home in this one. Paris will be ready to play and make this a competitive game, but, in the end Sayre still has more depth & athletes to pull this out. I say somewhere in the neighborhood of 34-14...

I think this Middlesboro team has been flying under the radar all year. The schedule has been suspect at best, so, they still have something to prove, but, thus far, they've stepped up and taken care of business like good teams do. Hazard has been off and on against a very competitive schedule, but, if nothing else, has proven they can compete pretty well with about everyone they've played. I expect nothing less from them here, but, when all's said and done, I think the Jackets may be just a little stronger and talented. I'll take them by a score of 40 to 27..

All I know is that this PT team can be a handful when clicking and playing up to their potential. That hasn't always been the case this year, but, when they're on, they're a scary match up for anyone they may come across.

I like Boyle to win it, but, imo, Johnson Central should be #2, Highlands at #3, Franklin Co at #4, Tilghman at #5, Cov Cath at #6, Corbin at #7, Logan Co at #8, N Oldham at #9 and F. Simpson at #10..

I'd say Manuals offense is right up there with the Devils. They're averaging right at 40 per game and has played a stout schedule. I like OBoro to win 5a this year, but, if they do lose, it wouldn't surprise me if it were Atherton that does it. While that N Oldham win may not be considered a quality win, it is. N Oldham is a very competitive team, maybe not Top 5 quality, but certainly a Top 10 type win.
