For the third consecutive season, the Paris Greyhounds and Sayre Spartans will clash in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs, a matchup that’s quickly become one of Central Kentucky’s most familiar postseason battles.

The defending 1A State Champion Spartans have handled this matchup the past two years, winning 38–12 in 2023 and 41–20 in 2024. But this year brings a new wrinkle, a new coaching staff in Paris with fresh energy and a renewed belief that they can finally turn the tables.

Paris has found ways to make games interesting all season, relying on a fast-paced attack and a defense that thrives on creating chaos. The Greyhounds’ ability to strike quickly will be critical if they hope to hang around against a Sayre team that’s built to wear opponents down.

Sayre, meanwhile, continues to look like a program built for November football. The Spartans Quarterback play and balance on offense have been major strengths once again this fall, while the team’s postseason poise under Coach Pennington continues to show.

This game has become a measuring stick for both programs, for Paris, a chance to prove the rebuild is real, and for Sayre, a chance to show the road to Lexington still runs through them.

Kickoff is set for Friday night in Lexington, and while history favors Sayre, I expect Paris to come in swinging.

Which team will be standing at the end of this contest?

Couldn’t agree more. Paris has a ton of speed and is well coached!

Paris has finally added Trevion Mizell who has played in the last 3 games for Paris. He gives them another dangerous weapon and a little depth on defense.

I like Sayre at home in this one. Paris will be ready to play and make this a competitive game, but, in the end Sayre still has more depth & athletes to pull this out. I say somewhere in the neighborhood of 34-14...

He hasn't played previously this season? Or was he injured for a spell?

I haven’t the slightest. But he was the talk pre season to have a big year. He may of been injured in the preseason games.

Thanks. Had been looking for a score all night lol.

Sayre 42-26.

These teams have 4 common opponents.
Frankfort,Williamsburg,Newport, and Fairview.

Both beat Frankfort 56-0

Paris beat Williamsburg 36-32, Sayre beat Williamsburg 41-16.

Sayre beat Newport 26-0. Paris lost 24-21 to Newport.

Paris beat Fairview 54-0. Sayre beat them 44-14.

If Paris was playing at Blanton Collier Stadium I would pick them to scorch Sayre on that orange and black turf.  Unfortunately the Hounds have to travel and I think that Coach Pennington playoff savvy will come through for the Spartans 35-21.

I just wasn't impressed with Paris when I watched them play Somerset early in the season.  They had some speed, but weren't very physical, and weren't very good on either line of scrimmage.  Sayre isn't what they were last season.  But I think they've got enough to move on to round 3, 35-13.
