Hancock County takes the drive west to War Memorial to play the Mayfield Cardinals in a second round playoff game. The Hornets dominated the Caldwell Co Tigers last week to earn the right to play the Cardinals. Mayfield had the first round off as their first round opponent, Fort Knox, decided to forfeit rather than make the trip.

The win over the Tigers puts Hancock Co at 8-3 for the year, beating them 41-0. The Hornets trend toward running the ball more than putting it in the air, and did that well enough to establish a running clock in the third quarter. Can they have similar success against the Cardinals? It is unlikely, but stranger things have happened.

The Cardinals saw the return of Josiah England last week against Central playing in limited action. But even without Josiah, Mayfield can hurt you on the ground. But the Hornets can’t load the box either as the Cardinal receiving corps have proven themselves to be dangerous. Grey Robbins has been a very efficient and mostly accurate passer the entire season. He finally did throw has first interception of the year last week against Central.

So who is up to the challenge? Who moves on to the third round? Tell us what you think.

Yes, that is our plan.

Do you have to get permission or since you’ve paid your good to go?

As I said in the Hancock/Caldwell thread, if Hancock uses the same gameplan they did against OC then they will get pounded. They didn’t even try and throw the ball and on defense they tried to press the Catholic WRs and OC got a lot of big plays in the first half.

Well, it has gotten more complicated than it used to be. If the NFHS uses our stream as the   “official” livestream, then we should be good to go. If not, then we are at the discretion of the LCA administration.

All of this is contingent on winning in the second round, of course. ?

Without Travis Atwell coming back as QB1, the Hornets can’t pound out enough points to stay close.  Cardinals by 4 TDs.

I know Mayfield has been banged up a bit, and the week off may actually pay dividends for them. Hancock is playing good football down the stretch, but Mayfield is Mayfield.

Mayfield by 22. 29 if they have the ball inside the final minute of the game.

If Hancock expects there running game to pull them through, then they're most likely in trouble. Mayfield hasn't given up over 100 yards rushing in a game all year. Plus, if Hancock's DBs press the line, the Cardinals WRs and QB will torch them over the top all night long. Hancock may hang around for a quarter or 2, but, when the final whistle blows, the Cards will have a comfortable 30-40 point victory.
