I gave them a chance in my first comment. Coach Woods will have a good game plan after playing them. Will be a good game.

First glance that Wayne/DCA matchup is a monster. I know DCA just handled them pretty good at home but I said earlier I didn’t think coach Woods would show his full hand in that one. How will DCA react to last nights loss. Very good first round game.

The off floor issues had to do with a fight after the West/Burgin game Monday night between some West fans and East fans that two key players from East got involved in. The coaching staff held the players accountable and went to battle with what they had. Have to admire that from a coach. Along with his YOY improvement I would say his job is safe. The PG post you mentioned was in reference to him giving up basketball to pursue a singing/acting career.

Good tough win by Pulaski. Really thought Rock would get them at home but Fraley and the Maroons wouldn’t be denied.

I do think you could see something like this in the near future: East, West, Trinity, Garrard, KSD or DCA Boyle, Danville, Mercer, Burgin, KSD or DCA Rock, Lincoln, Casey, Somerset, Pulaski here or in the bottom Wayne, McCreary, Southwestern, Somerset Christian, maybe Pulaski

And everyone else hoping to draw that district in region.

I think you are pretty well spot on with this weeks rankings. Barring any major injuries I think we see the top 8 in the region except for either Pulaski/Rock which should be replaced by number 9 East. However, it is almost March and the madness could take any of them out. Give me: DCA over Lincoln in the 45th. Coach Jackson is just a master at game planning when his back is against the wall and his kids are disciplined to carry it out. Mercer over East in the 46th. I expect closer games than what has been the case in the regular season. Somerset over Rock in the 47th. I think Rock uses the home court advantage to take Pulaski out. It will take a lot out of them to do it though and Godbey and Whitaker close it out in the championship. Wayne over Southwestern in the 48th. I think this is the one I’m most unsure about considering the injury to Farmer and some of their depth players. Southwestern is rolling at the right time but I think the Phillips boys and Dumphord have enough to get it done.

Somerset was all but eliminated according to some last week.

Been saying all year that Southwestern would get in the region from the 48th and that any team that gets in has a legitimate chance to win it and it could be a team with a losing record even. They have size and Hudson can flat play. Hate to hear of the injuries to Wayne. Farmer is a big part of what they do. Does anyone know who the other two that were mentioned are and the role they played? Mercer should be fine. They played a stretch of 3 games in 4 days with two on the road. Southwest shot extremely well and Mercer not so much from the stats. still the most intriguing games in the first round of District are Lincoln/Boyle and Pulaski/Rockcastle. Two pretty good teams are for sure going home early. Give me coach of the year Jackson and Lincoln with Rockcastle pulling it off at home to advance.

Wasn’t able to see the game and no stats posted yet. What was the turning point of the game. Score seemed close and competitive through half. Wayne just not hit shots? Did they have good shots? DCA turn them over a lot?

I really think tomorrow nights game with Wayne and DCA is going to tell us a lot. Although I don't think Coach Woods will show his full hand in this one to save something in case they meet in the region tournament. He will also learn a lot as he is a master of coaching and has been doing it successfully for a long, long time. To me Wayne and Mercer are interchangeable and both have a weakness at the guard spot that has haunted them at times all year. To me as I posted in an earlier post, they are the two teams that have something others don't to compete with DCA and their bigs. They both have 6'5"-6'6" kids with some weight and physicality that can battle on the boards and challenge the big guys from DCA. Wayne shoots it better from outside, although Mercer has improved throughout the year and Mercer has two big guys that are capable of stepping out and hitting the three in Jackson Perry 30% on the year and Ellis at 41%. We all know the Phillips boys from Wayne can flat out shoot it. Both teams have solid role players that just do the work they need to do to help their teams and are both good defensive teams. I think if Wayne can compete with them tomorrow then Mercer will be able to as well. We have already seen that Boyle can compete with them as they were in the last game deep into the 4th. They do it in a different way than Mercer and Wayne will be able to do it. I think Somerset is too low in this poll though. Godbey and Whitaker can keep them in any game and even though they have struggled with injuries of late will more than likely get in the region for the first time in a while unless they lay a big egg against Casey. They are capable of getting hot and winning three in a row if they can get some decent post play and rebound. Pulaski is Pulaski. Well coached, have senior leadership, and have a confidence boost as Fraley is back in some capacity. Watched the Boyle game the other night and Fraley looks to be in pain and not his same mobile self but just having him out there some will help them mentally and he was still able to make some good passes that set players up for easy buckets. Time will tell and I am sure there will be upsets in the district that no one would ever think of but even if you win your district there are not going to be any easy first round games that you will just feel sure you are going to advance to the semi finals. Going to be a fun and interesting nest few weeks.

Several decent games around the 12th tonight if they don’t cancel. Southwestern at Somerset, East at Wayne, Trinity Christian at West( for seed position I believe), Lincoln at Mercer. Boyle and Pulaski tomorrow to.

Don’t know that I’m ready to just hand it to them yet. With him(and he has been practicing with them for a year) Boyle was in the game and had a chance right up to the end. I think Wayne has enough to give them trouble as they shoot the ball so well from 3 and have size and strength with Dumphord and Farmer that should be able to hold them off the boards some. They play next week so we will see. Mercer probably has enough size to battle with their bigs as well. Perry and Ellis are both 6’6” and are pretty strong with Ellis being a skilled finisher around the rim as well as both being able to step out and hit 3 point shots. Southwestern even has size. Nobody has their size and length but teams have physicality that I don’t know DCA has.

What is his injury? Any timeline on a return?

Wanted to blame the low scoring on the venue but when you look at the stats Lyon just didn’t get many shots. 36 is not a lot of chance to score a lot of points even if you hit half of them. Didn’t see the game but must have been slow pace.

If the Boyle team that hits 10+ 3’s out of their half court offense shows up they win this game easy like they did the Wayne game. If not it could be a struggle. Danville is athletic and long enough to give them trouble at the rim. Danville can’t turn the ball over and give Boyle easy transition buckets and Paige has to play very well for them to have a chance.

Yes he is going to be huge for them. From what I saw they seem to be putting the ball in his hands and letting him run things.

Turned on radio feed after watching on line and they said 29 and 17 on 12-18 shooting from the field. 1-2 from 3. Coach Adkins was joking the in the post game interview that he asked if he got an assist on Tatum’s full court shot because he inbounded it to him.

10 threes can certainly cure(hide) a lot of problems and yes they can and always have been capable of beating any team in the region.

Quadruple Coverage just had this posted on his Facebook page so things seem to be getting worse instead of better at Boyle.

Really? Hate to hear that. Always seemed like a very smart player and the kind of player Jackson has always had success with running his system.

I don’t think anyone who follows the 12th closely ever thought Boyle wasn’t going to be a factor in the 45th or the region. I think everyone knew they had talent and just had to make transition from football. They have played a monster schedule early while making that transition.

Boyle did lose to Franklin by 5 in the championship of the Mercer Holiday Classic. Game is not on KHSAA. Mercer also played all 3 games without Barnes and the Franklin game without Barnes and Wright due to sickness. I have also noticed that Conner Davis has been out for Lincoln a while. Does anyone know what his status is? I still say any of the 8 that get in the region tourney have a legitimate shot to win it. Could very well be a team with a losing record like Southwestern did a few years back.

A third of the way through and at this time I think any of the eight teams that get in the region tournament have a shot to win it. Every team has a significant weakness that could be their downfall in a three game stretch and the one that is able to correct or hide theirs between now and March will win it. The 47th is still at this time the top district. How would you like to win your district and then draw the runner up from there? 45th still has a lot of talent and if Boyle gets theirs firing on all cylinders will be a factor. Lincoln is already heading in the direction we all thought Coach Jackson would have them headed. 46th and 48th are probably still two team races with Mercer and Wayne leading. East and Southwestern in the runner up spots for now. I think some teams have challenged themselves early, DCA, Boyle, Somerset, and Mercer especially, playing top teams in the region as well as in the state. We will see how that plays out in preparing them for the end of the season. It will be interesting to see where we stand in another 10 games or so.
