Danville Christian Academy 48 Somerset 45

DCA wins a tight one.  Good battle, as Somerset came out hot and led throughout.  Jumpers made 10 3s for the game, but went cold at the wrong time, and credit DCA who showed great Grit, and shutout the Jumpers in the 4th Q.  They tighten the D up, but also Somerset missed some opportunities as well.  A really intense high school basketball game.

Somerset was all but eliminated according to some last week.

Those people don’t know basketball! Coach Young does a heck of a job. They also have two really good guards! Would love to see this matchup one more time for a chance to go to Rupp!

Not sure you can eliminate anyone in the 12th Region this year. DCA is definitely the team to beat, but they've have had close games with Lincoln, Boyle, Somerset, even Garrard in the last month. There's a list of about nine schools in the region capable of beating any of the others in the region on any given night.

In most years, that number is 5 to 6 teams, but this year I think it’s 10 teams that can do that. There are 9 teams with winning records in regional play. And though Boyle is below .500, they clearly have enough talent to do so as well.

I’ll add, I don’t think 10 teams can win three games in a row (that number is smaller), but a couple first round upsets could put the entire tournament in disarray.

I don’t think anyone “all but eliminated” them. They were in an injury induced slump. They’ve bounced out of it. To what extent is yet to be seen but there’s never been any doubt they are capable of beating anyone in the region.

North Oldham, Wayne and Somerset are the only opponents that have seen them with New Big starting and playing the whole game.  He’s a big addition with his length on the perimeter.  The collective length is hard to navigate.  Score early (in transition before it’s set) or Score Late (Grind them out in the half ct turning motion over).

Somerset quit getting stops in the 4th which eliminated their transition game essentially that was very effective early.
