  1. Whether we want to admit it or not, school size plays a significant role in athletic success on a year-in, year-out basis. Numbers matter. Consider the difference across Kentucky: • East of Richmond, there is just 1 school with an enrollment of more than 1,300 students. • From Richmond to Louisville, including Northern Kentucky, there are 23 schools with more than 1,300 students. • West of Louisville, excluding Louisville/Jefferson County, there are 8 schools with more than 1,300 students. Those numbers are difficult to ignore. Enrollment doesn't guarantee success, and smaller schools can and do compete at a high level. But over time, having a larger student population generally provides a larger pool of potential athletes and greater depth across multiple sports. It's beginning to happen in Eastern Kentucky where the school size discrepancy is not nearly as large as it is in Western Kentucky. In Region 1 Fulton City (70) and McCracken County (1885). In Region 2 Dawson Springs (162) and Henderson County (1861). I would expect the regions in Western Kentucky to begin considering this type of model very soon.

  5. Julian has done a tremendous job over the past 16 years. Steve Jobs said it best: "If you want to make everyone happy, don't be a leader-sell ice cream.” I certainly haven't agreed with every decision Julian has made, but there is no denying that he has left the organization better than he found it. Chad Collins, the next Commissioner, will benefit greatly from the body of work Julian has built and the foundation he leaves behind.

  9. Not sure where those rumors are coming from, haven't been heard in this area of the second region. Expect Coach Perry to be on the sidelines in Lyon County for the next several years.
  10. Coach Ford is a great guy! Rowan County has lost two outstanding men (Ford and Thacker) in the last 6-8 months. There is more to high school athletics than wins and loses. I know those matter, but the character of the men and women leading your programs mean more.
  11. Along with all of this, he's put up incredible numbers in the playoffs when it mattered most to lead his team to Kroger Field. In 4 playoff games against teams ranked 3, 4 and 7 respectively in the November 4th edition of the Bluegrass Preps Top 10, he has 99 carries for 926 yards and 14 touchdowns. Along with 19 of 22 passing for 306 yards and 2 touchdowns. Defensively he's recorded 15 tackles and 3 interceptions.
  12. I can assure you Union County would not consider that option, they are pretty excited about hosting a semifinal game.
  13. There's offers, there's stats and then there's heart! He gets overlooked because of his size, but he's got the heart of a lion! If we are all sitting around picking a football team I doubt there's very many that don't pick him as their first RB.
  14. Union County's Jarren Johnson has to be in the conversation when talking about Mr. Football. I just hope those outside of Western Kentucky see what everyone in Western Kentucky knows, he's a heck of a football player! He is Union County's All-Time leading rusher passing former Parade All American Tim Joiner who held the record for 45 years. Jarren ran for 506 yards as a freshman, played the first half of the first game his sophomore season before tearing his ACL, he finished that game with 91 yards. After his freshman and sophomore seasons he had 597 career rushing yards. He currently sits 25 yards away from 5000! He ran for 2091 yards and 33 touchdowns as a junior and has 2287 yards and 39 touchdowns for far this season. He has also thrown for 1260 yards and 12 touchdowns in the last two years. It's my hope he truly gets the consideration he deserves.
  15. The field was a mess from all the rain on Friday and the duration of this game was played in the rain and wind on Saturday. The outcome would have been much different on a dry field or even a slightly dry field. It was awful conditions for a football game.

  19. Yes, I said I did that back in 2012. There's been some changes since then, but those changes would be easy to fix.
  20. Back in 2012 I took the time to redistrict the entire state to eliminate 3 team districts. 21. Union County had road trips to Caldwell County, Hopkins County Central, Trigg County, Hancock County and Greenwood. I completely agree the Greenwood loss was a good loss at the right time. The Braves have seemed to be a little more focused the last two weeks. Hart County is a good football team, Union County is a good football team, I expect this to be a really good game. I'm leaning toward the UC defense being the difference in this game. 21-14 UC.
  22. The better team, and dropped passes? Did you notice FS scored on a scoop and score off a fumble inside the 15, a safety (not a great play call in that situation) and another fumble on a bad play call on 3rd down? Union defense looked impressive in my opinion. This one should be another dandy.
  23. Here is the link to the organizations website and member schools. https://www.kentucky2achampionships.org/schools
  24. The Kentucky 2A Championships start tomorrow in Owensboro. Lexington Catholic appears to be the favorite, will they repeat as champions?
  25. That is correct, single gender schools are doubled.
