Open Job: Rowan County

Coach Ford informed the team today he was being let go.

What’s the youth programs and talent situation like? I know that district is tough right now. Rowan is another one of these places that is consistently not very good. Is there potential there?

Do you mind sharing who is in their district? I love the city of Morehead. Hopefully they turn it around and can start stacking some wins with the right coach!

I've always thought that if a school can sustain a perennial winner in basketball, baseball, soccer, and track & field, the talent is there to excel in football, as well. That's the case for Rowan. They've produced a lot of talent over the years in other sports. They just haven't been able to funnel it to the football program.

Coach Ford is a good guy and I am sure he is a great coach but let be honest, 4 wins in 3 seasons isn't acceptable at a school the size and location of Rowan.

Coach Ford is a great guy! Rowan County has lost two outstanding men (Ford and Thacker) in the last 6-8 months. There is more to high school athletics than wins and loses. I know those matter, but the character of the men and women leading your programs mean more.

Yeah, it's always been an oddity to me how they just haven't been able to be good in football considering the success of other sports.  They've had some good coaches come through as well but nothing has clicked.

Might as well add Bama and LSU to the mix for the fun of it.

Will that change after next football season? Isn't this just for 2 yrs?

That's the million dollar question.

There is no denying that their level(s) of success(es) & lows, NO MATTER who the coach(es) have been, largely depend on this (as do the vast majority. That 800 lbs gorilla in the room).

With NO Johnson Central & Ashland District?

Kelly Ford ('19-'22)

21-20

ShaDon Brown ('08-'10)

21-13

With Johnson Central and Ashland in District?

Kelly Ford ('17-'18, '23-'25)

11-39

Gene Patterson ('16)

2-9

Ray Graham ('14-'15)

6-15

Kyle Singleton ('11-'13)

15-18

The two best seasons that Rowan has had in the previous 11 Seasons when in the district with those two? Singleton & Ford led, 8-3 (2011) and 5-5 (2018), respectively.

Needless to say, those are some prettttttttty respected names to have led this program, Ford included. Annnnnnnd that's not even including, yet ANOTHER big name & MULTIPLE TIME STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WINNING (recently retired)... DOUG PRESTON, who was there from '03-'05 & went 10-20.

Take all that info and make of it what you will.....I know what I get from it.

Why not, I mean...need some cream puffs in there to break up things a bit. ?

I doubt the district changes much. Those schools are all close to each other and very similar in size. As for the opposite district, who knows.

Doug retired from teaching this year. Would he go back? Would they want him back? He did have Rowan drop out of district play if I'm correct.

Shadon is at WVU and will remain in college coaching IMO.

Kyle is at Boyle competing for state titles.

Ray is helping at Scott County but retired.
