This is a very solid hire. Coach Moore has spent time at Thomas More and Wilmington College where he had considerable success. There is obviously work to do at Thomas Nelson, but this is a good first step.

California, Florida, Georgia, and Texas all have later start dates than KY, yes. However, even with the later start dates, they have FAR worse heat issues than KY. Wouldn’t that suggest that heat and participation are quite uncorrelated? Removing a week or more of football for a marginal (or likely completely nonexistent) increase in participation seems like a very, very silly thing to do. It would almost certainly be bad for football in the state. Less games and less practices—believe it or not—will lead to less good football.

Watkins is a guru. Prior to the news today, I would not have been shocked if he was D1 football in some capacity in the near future.

I was told that Sayre’s tuition just eclipsed KCD’s as the most costly in the state. I have no evidence to support that however, so take that with a big grain of salt.

Also Henry Clay breaks ground on a new school and new athletic facilities in 2025. It will (allegedly) be finished by 2028. In a perfect world that would lend a pretty good hand to your football team.

I watched the first game between these two teams. I thought Highlands out played the Jags overall but Cooper hit big plays to win. This one was very different.

Every single team in the state can play a tough schedule. Very, very, very few can go 14-0.

To add on to this: Barren County went from a pass first team last season to a 3:1 run team (mostly Wing T) this season and now they are playing for their first region title. Limit possessions, limit turnovers, chew clock, beat teams that are better than you. Obviously there’s a lot more that goes into team success, but it’s a good start.

It doesn’t have to be the Wing T. But just anything that just keeps the game on the ground. I cannot stand when a team throws it 45 times to lose by 60 (this doesn’t necessarily apply to the teams mentioned above). By throwing the ball you are dragging the game out, increasing TOs, and hurting your team. To @Purple88 point, in theory you should get more kids out by running a flashy “pass first” “spread em out” offense. But the fact of the matter is many bad teams do not have great numbers—so why not do something to slow the game down a bit and give your team a chance. With all of that being said, I agree with Purp that it’s far more of a Jimmys and Joes than X’s and O’s thing.
