Not sure who kept the offensive stats for NCC, but I am certain they had more than 66 yards rushing.

Congratulations to Conner. They were the better team tonight. Conner had great field position for the first couple of drives. NCC got behind early and never recovered. NCC couldn't stop the run, and Conner couldn't throw the ball. Conner QB had a nice game running the ball. I believe it was #1 (Name?) also ran strong. NCC youth and inexperience showed up tonight. Don't get me wrong NCC get beat. Defense couldn't make plays and get Conner off the field. They had Conner in third and long several times but couldn't make the stops. I think NCC found out some things tonight. Now it's back to work to get ready for Campbell County. NCC could use some time to heal. They came out pretty beat up.

Good test for NCC. NCC needs to establish the run to control the clock. O Line is up for the task. Cole runs hard and looks to punish tacklers. Collopy and Bivens are a great compliment to Cole's style of running. Defense has been solid both up front and the secondary so far this season. Haven't seen a lot of tape on Conner. Don't know what their strengths are. Good luck to both teams. Should be a good one.

Now things start to get interesting. NCC hosts a strong Conner team. NCC has been solid so far. A lot of weapons to choose from this year. I expect NCC starters to play the entire game this week. Interested to see how they hold up. Schedule over the next three weeks will see what NCC is made of (Conner, Campbell County and Raceland). This should be a good game. Best of luck Breds.

Score is a little misleading. NCC was up 55-7 at half. Pulled the starters before the end of the first half. JV played the entire second half. To the best of my knowledge Scott played some starters deep into the second half. Good win for NCC. Now on to the Conner game. Schedule gets very different the next 3 weeks. I think NCC came out healthy for the most part. Time to see what they are made of. Good luck Breds.

Another chance for NCC to build momentum. Never take any team for granted. NCC did a great job spreading the ball around last week. Six different players scored with Cole scoring twice. Team plays for each other, solid line play and nice lead blocking out of the backfield. This game will be more of a challenge. Scott has some nice players. I do get worried if NCC would get to a running clock with any team. First team needs to get ready to play an entire game under game conditions. It will be necessary in the coming weeks.

Offensive and Defensive line played very well. Group works well together. Starters go both ways, so they get a lot of snaps. Being in good shape shows.

NCC did what they wanted when they wanted. No answer for Cole and Collopy. Running clock before half time. NCC got a good look at their depth. On to next week.

I stand by my prior statement; one game does not make a season. NNC needs to enjoy the win and get back to work. Procedure penalties need to be cleaned up. Hydration will be critical this week with the weather forecast. Time to work on technique and fine tune. Walton may allow that opportunity. If they want to meet their end goal, it's not a time to let up. Each week is a new test. Time to build momentum and get better.

Nice team win for Newport Catholic. O-line played solid. I don't think Miles (QB) was touched all night. Cole ran hard. Scored twice. A 70-yard run TD right before half kind of took the air out of LLoyd. Collopy ran hard and had a nice game on defense. He scored one time. Bivens ran hard and had big runs in the second half. Ford had a punt return for a TD and caught a long pass in the first half. NCC penalties were a problem and need to be cleaned up. Defensive secondary played well all night. Both teams had problems with cramping. Might want to try to hydrate more during the week and especially before the game. LLoyd seemed focused on throwing the ball. Very little run game. QB throws a nice ball. Talented receivers. Tried to get the ball to Sebastian as much as possible. NCC kept the ball in front of them and made some nice tackles. Overall good start for NCC. One game does not make a season.

Strong group of Senior leadership. They have shown the underclassmen what it takes in the weight room and conditioning to be better players. A number of players have been working out on their own on a regular basis in addition to the school workouts to be ready for the season. It shows. Tight group of kids and parents that have bought in to what it takes to be a better team. I expect this team to be physical and leave it all on the field for each other.

For NCC to win they must control the clock with a strong run offense. The run will open up the game for Mile (QB) and his core of receivers. NCC line has been solid during their scrimmages. LLoyd has great speed, and I understand their QB can be spot on with his receivers. Should be a good one. Pulling for NCC.

LLoyd returns a number of skill players. A lot of speed for NCC to deal with. The question is how the line gel with all the new starters. NCC brings back a strong core of athletes. Should be a good game.

NCC first team scored 3 or 4 times. I believe it was a fumble recovery return for six. one rushing TD and it was one or two passing TD's. NCC had a nice interception (Ford) in the endzone. Boone did not score. Both teams appeared to be in decent shape even considering the excessive heat.

Scrimmage took place as planned. Controlled scrimmage. No less than 15 officials were there doing training for the upcoming season. Boone had respectable numbers and were big up front. Not what you would expect for a school their size. Look to be rebuilding. NCC kept the running game very basic. Didn't show anything. The Quarterback (Miles) was on target, especially with the deeper balls. NCC first team defense kept Boone in check. Second teams got a lot of work during extended water breaks for both Boone and NCC. Overall, I think it gave both coaches an idea where they are as we approach the season.

Boone County scrimmages Newport Central Catholic tonight at 7:00 due to heat. The scrimmage will be at Boone County High School. Interesting to see how along each team is this early in the pre-season. The only thing I know is its going to be hot.

Kaleb Cole suffered a series of injuries during his junior year and missed significant time. Still was a major contributor especially during the playoffs. He has played varsity since his freshman year. Very physical with a high-speed motor and hits like a freight train. Look for him to have a big season as a leader for the Breds. Breds bring back an experienced offensive line and depth at receiver. Keys to the defense are in place. Look for some of the younger players to step up and contribute right away. Strength of schedule will help with the RPI and hopefully get a home game for the payoffs.

Any update on the Newport Stadium and if Newport will be able to play this year at their new stadium?

Nice project. Have they considered parking? Will there be a parking lot? Was always an issue at the old stadium.

Very physical game. I don't think Campbellsville knew how to handle Newport Catholic's physical nature of NCC's running game. Welch and Cole punished people. Campbellsville made some nice adjustments at half. Both teams committed critical penalties. NCC had a TD called back on a penalty and a miscue on a punt created a turnover inside the five which led to a Campbellsville TD. Campbellsville certainly had their share of penalties and errors. It was a great game to watch. Both teams deserved to win. Both teams left it all on the field. Good luck to Campbellsville next week. I have a feeling they may need it.

Does anyone know if Campbellsville streams their games? This has the makings of an interesting game.

Final 49 to 8.

Kaleb Cole, RB/MLB was the compliment to help Welch. Thunder and Lighting is what I have named them. Totally different styles. Touches were about the same in the first four games. NCC will need to find a replacement for Cole after his injury in the Campbell Game. He is a big contributor on both offense and led the team in tackles on defense. Return unknown at this point. Injuries and inexperience have shown. Good luck to the Breds at Raceland.

I no longer have a dog in the fight. If they did it to one team, I am sure it will be done to others throughout the season.
