Raceland sits at 2-2 on the season. Raceland has survived one Class 1A top 10 showdown. This week they welcome in Newport Central Catholic for a big time matchup. Raceland beat Pikeville two weeks ago in a defensive matchup 7-6. Raceland is coming off a blow out loss to Highlands 40-0 this week, so they will be looking to take that frustration out on someone. Newport Central Catholic sits at 2-3 coming into this matchup, and on a 2 game losing streak. They will be hungry coming into this matchup to prove they have what it takes to have a shot at a Class 1A title.

Who wins this Class 1A matchup? Does Raceland add to its resume? Does Newport Central Catholic put 1A on notice with a HUGE road win?

There is nothing I’ve seen from NewCath offensively that moves the needle for me. Raceland by a comfortable margin. Safe travels, Go Breds.

I'm sure NewCath is a better team now than the one I watched against Lloyd. However, there is no way they have gotten good enough to beat Raceland.

How’s the offensive line holding up? Has anyone seemed to have stepped up to take the load off of Welch?

I'm thinking this all Raceland. NCC just doesn't have the depth. 

 Kaleb Cole, RB/MLB was the compliment to help Welch.  Thunder and Lighting is what I have named them. Totally different styles.  Touches were about the same in the first four games.  NCC will need to find a replacement for Cole after his injury in the Campbell Game.  He is a big contributor on both offense and led the team in tackles on defense. Return unknown at this point.  Injuries and inexperience have shown.   Good luck to the Breds at Raceland.

This will be the eighth encounter between Raceland and NewCath. The 'Breds have won six of the previous seven by at least three scores. I think the Rams get one back in a big way this week, emphasizing the gap between the top two in 1A and everyone else.

I can't think of these two schools getting together without being reminded of the 1996 first round playoff game. Raceland, a 10-0 one seed, hosted NCC, a four seed. Four seeds have beaten #1s before, but that game - a 49-8 win for the 'Breds - might be the worst beating ever dealt to a one seed in the first round. 

I remember seeing that score on the old ICN6 ticker and could not believe it. There was also a play in that game by NewCath's DB where he stripped Raceland's WR of the ball only a step after he caught it. Pretty much sums up how that game went.

Off topic, but I miss ICN6. Loved Don Weber's preseason previews and weekly highlights! I remember each Friday night at whatever after game party we had huddling around a TV watching his Scoreboard Show. Good times.
