Big win for NewCath! 

Nice team win for Newport Catholic.  O-line played solid.  I don't think Miles (QB) was touched all night. Cole ran hard.  Scored twice.  A 70-yard run TD right before half kind of took the air out of LLoyd.   Collopy ran hard and had a nice game on defense. He scored one time.  Bivens ran hard and had big runs in the second half.  Ford had a punt return for a TD and caught a long pass in the first half. NCC penalties were a problem and need to be cleaned up. Defensive secondary played well all night.  Both teams had problems with cramping. Might want to try to hydrate more during the week and especially before the game. 

LLoyd seemed focused on throwing the ball. Very little run game. QB throws a nice ball.  Talented receivers. Tried to get the ball to Sebastian as much as possible.  NCC kept the ball in front of them and made some nice tackles. Overall good start for NCC.  One game does not make a season. 

Good opening win Breds.

Lloyd is a solid team that is going to get even better as the season moves along. They are going to win a lot of games this year. Great win for NewCath. Lots to improve and build upon. Lots to be excited about. NewCath had so many different players making an impact throughout the game it was crazy and Oline & DLine handled their business. 

couldn't catch any games this weekend but was told NCC won it in 3 main areas. O/D line play, special teams, and turnovers. Turnovers may have been equal in the box score but NCC forced a turnover at a really opportunistic time, inside the 5 yard line. Was mentioned Lickert has some "guys" and a good QB on his hands that made a few nice throws last night in moments when it was needed. I read in here NCC had alot of penalties so I asked about that and it was said they may have had more than they liked but overall they looked alot more prepared and hungry then Lloyd. Prepared and hungry is a good combination. Freshman Colten Barger for Lloyd had a HUGE touchdown catch and a great start to his highschool career. Last thing mentioned to me was NCC tackled wayyyy wayyy better than Lloyd it seemed no matter who was carrying the ball for NCC they were breaking 3 tackles per carry. NCC has a recipe for success, Lloyd needs to get in the lab and refine some things.

Oh and when Lloyds run game was stagnant they should have tried to get Sebastian in at QB for a spark. No threat of the run from Evans, Sebastian at QB some could have got NCC back on their heels a little. Getting beat at the line would have made it hard for any runner but Sebastian may have been able to make something out of nothing, could have been worth a shot. Even at college and NFL level you see QB packages to get great athletes the ball in their hands there. No shot from me here at all. Evans is a pro style QB and is really good but this is still highschool football. Hard to have a pro style QB with struggling O line.
