As was the case in the Fairview game, Ashland will win at the foul line. Ashland does a good job of playing a physical game without fouling.

Absolutely true. My last sentence above is poorly worded. The example was not meant to be derrogatory toward the ultra-young Royals in the Boyd County game. My intent was to relate that, regardless of talent, a team must deliver and that will be the task of both Rose Hill and Elliott County next year and thereafter. I will, nonetheless, reaffirm the contents of the first paragraph of my post.

My "theme", Dawgdays is obvious. I am saying that, although some at Rose Hill worry about how they are seen by their "neighbors", I don't give a tinker's you know what. I remember too well the "lean years" with the absolute lack of respect and consideration that went with them. I also remember the "Ovinton Era" when the reaction was excuses, contempt, accusations, and whining (ie: renting of clothes and gnashing of teeth). I much prefer the latter to the former and certainly make no apologies to anyone for my attitude in this regard. Now, don't "spin" my post into a declaration that Rose Hill will run the region over the next few years. I didn't say that. I merely said that they are a good bet to succeed, as is Elliott County. I think most would agree with that statement. Of course, as was demonstrated by Rose Hill the other night against Boyd County, unrealized potential won't do the job.

Agreed. Stinger can give me his "evidence" in a pm and I think the comments by Rickyp in the first paragraph of #70 do echo the feelings of some at Rose Hill. I trust that those feelings are reciprocated. I agree with the comments about the officiating. I only hope that both Rose Hill and Ashland are granted the same privileges in the game on Thursday night. Shooting 1 for 17 tells it all and I have to agree with some that several of Rose Hill's boys appeared intimidated which came as a disappointing surprise to me.

How about citing some examples to prove your accusation that Rose Hill posters are guilty of "tearing them down ...all year". I assume that I would be included in your "expose" so you can start with my posts.

Obviously, what Raider95 was saying is that Russell won and, thus, will go to Morehead to attempt to defend its regional title. Methinks that Tomcat_Fan is too easily offended.

Russell won. Raceland played a laudable game and can be proud of its performance. However, the real concern is the health of the two injured players. As far as basketball in the region is concerned, the only issue is the status of Jonathan VanHoose. VanHoose is clearly the premier player in this area. He cannot and will not be "replaced" by team mates "stepping up". You don't replace the premier player in the region. If he is out for the remainder of the season, Russell's season will be short. I cannot see them beating either Ashland or Elliott County without him. Could Ashland function without McDavid? How about Elliott County without Ferguson? VanHoose far surpasses either of these players. First, I hope there is no lasting or permanent damage. Second, I hope he can get back on the floor for the regional.

Shoot, Jay, I have no problem whatsoever with the comments of 16th62nd. He/She is entitled to his/her opinion.We all should have learned by now that Rose Hill is the most controversial and disliked school in the region. Although it bothers some, I think it is fine. It is far preferable to be disliked than ignored as Rose Hill was during the many "doormat" years. It tells me that others are noticing that the "rebirth" of the boys's basketball program is getting close to maturity. There are no Ovintons on Friendship Road but Euton and Jackson will garner sufficient accolades to suffice. I know it bothers some associated with the school but I enjoy all the "renting of clothes and gnashing of teeth" from some of our "good neighbors". For the "renting of clothes", try Normans or ASG. For the "gnashing of teeth", try spindoc. For a good bet for the next few years, try Rose Hill.

The season is over for Rose Hill. Few, if any, expected such a successful record although most would have liked to have seen them play a few more games during the season. Euton and Jackson established themselves as, although not the two best players in the region at this time (mainly because of maturity and youth), clearly the two kids in the region with the most promising futures in basketball. The next three years of those futures will be spent in high school. The very young kids (remember the merely young kids play varsity) won a number of championships led by the 7th grade state championship (32-0). That group also handily defeated all of its region neighbors time and time again (for example, the 7th grade team defeated both Ashland's 7th grade team and Ashland's 8th grade team four times each). The season was positive. The need for hard work on all counts is present and known. The future could be most gratifying. For the future, I seriously doubt Rose Hill would trade places with anyone else in the area. Nevertheless, as I said before, potential is great but unfulfilled potential is not.

Ashland. I still think that the only teams that will beat Ashland, Russell, and Elliott County are Ashland, Russell, and Elliott County.I think these three have proven themselves to be clearly the top tier of the region this yer. Fairview could play them close with good games from Barker and Hall. Both teams will be well coached.

Big games from both Simpson and Adkins.

A very much deserved win for Boyd County. A check of the statistics will show why Rose Hill lost. I can only remember one point scored by anyone other than Euton and Jackson. Rose Hill had a goodly number of chances in the first half to pull out to a large margin but continually failed to do so. By the middle of the third quarter, even with Rose Hill still ahead, chances were squandered and you could sense the outcome. As a "wise" poster has said since October, Rose Hill is a year away. However, between now and then, a couple more boys will have to step up. Potential is great. Unfulfilled potential is not. The referees let the teams bang and play. I would hope that they will do the same on Thursday.

Everything in life involves politics. The vote of the coaches, although they are in the best position to judge, is no different.

Very good analysis although I think the score will be somewhat closer. If the referees allow the girls to play, Rose Hill should prevail but if the referees choose to "micro-manage", it could be otherwise. Ashland showed a lot of perseverence in its game with Boyd County. That speaks highly of its girls and its coaches.

As is nearly always the case with the Rose Hill girls, fouls will play the major role in the outcome. If Terry, Queen, and Faulkner can avoid foul trouble, Rose Hill should win.

I don't know about the margin but Malloy could be the difference. He needs to shoot more.

This is an exciting time of year for all high school basketball fans. In this area, most look forward to the 16th Region preview in the Daily Independent. It is a bit of a traditional read as all schools get set for a second chance at success- regardless of the likelihood or unliklihood of achieving that success. With this air of anticipation, many, I'm sure, turned to the sports section this morning. But, alas, disappointment. Lots of coverage of another UK choke. (Does anyone really care anymore?). Good Kenseth, U of L, and OSU coverage. The districts? We did get a schedule and the sports editor's picks to win each region. That's it. Was anyone else disappointed with the local "preview"?

This is supposed to be real people with real names. This one must be fake. I know someone by that name but I doubt he had any ties to Ashland. I think he played in the NBA.

Boyd County is at home. Rose Hill has played less games than anyone in the region and, due to "backouts", has not played since last Tuesday. Boyd County played three more games than did Rose Hill including the Fleming County game on Thursday. All of this bodes well for Boyd County. On the other hand, I understand that Rose Hill did not reveal much of its strategy when it played Boyd County earlier this month. I would say that foul trouble or the lack thereof will determine the outcome. Last time, Boyd County got back in the game when Euton was on the bench. Rose Hill cannot afford to lose Euton and Jackson. Boyd County can't succeed without Blanton and Selby. Whistles could tip the scale.
