64th District Pairings
I'm sure I have made my share of "detractors" at Rose Hill with my remarks on this subject. Nonetheless, I stick by what I have said and I believe it needed to be said. However, it is best that I refrain from answering your query. These are good people with whom I happen to seriously disagree with on this issue. We probably agree about 99 percent of the time.

64th District Pairings
I respect your post and your experience. I am talking about the 64th District and only the 64th District. Your experience doesn't apply to the situation here. We have two relatively large schools and two extremely small schools. For any leverage, the two small schools must stick together. My loyalties have been with Rose Hill. However, part of the fallout is that Rose Hill shafted Fairview. This is an obvious conclusion. And, in doing so, Rose Hill displayed a total lack of integrity.

Your last sentence is, shall we say, an understatement. He has every reason to be hot.

Actually, it can. It was done about ten years ago in the 64th District.

Mayo Suspended 3 games
Ladiesbballcoach, you are a good man. However, as you readily admit, all you really know is heresay. I am confident that that is the case with most everyone who likes to opine about Ovinton. As I said, those who know him and his history are much less likely to criticize him. While it is true that some of this is because of bias toward him, much more of it is because of a real knowledge of the facts.

I stand corrected. As I recall, there seems to be some evidence that Charles Manson was also born in Ashland. As I recall, he received more headlines than all the other Ashland natives that you mention combined.:thumb:

You display a complete lack of understanding of small schools vs. large schools. While it is true that small schools are "up" on occasion, the "down" years are far more likely. A small school will, at best, have a run of a couple of years. The Rose Hill girls are an excellent example. Until 2004-2005, they had never been out of the district. With the draw, they will most likely make their third consecutive trip to the regional tournament. After this year, it will be a quick trip back to the past and the trip will be lengthy and not brief. You vote for the overall good of your school. You must be an advocate and not a consensus builder. Small schools don't gain by a seed. If they are "up", neither the draw or the seed should matter. If they are, as is usually the case, "down", the seed seals the tomb whereas the draw may provide a lucky break.

It didn't "force Ashland to play twice" in 2002-2003, now did it? That argument is nothing but fertilizer and you should know it.

What facts do you have to substantiate this statement? Actually, I'm afraid you are correct and, if so, I am also afraid that I know whose throat was cut at Fannin Toyota..

Mayo Suspended 3 games
Through the years we have had literally hundreds of threads on Mayo. It is interesting that the small group who actually know him rarely say anything negative about him. It is equally interesting that most of those who judge him harshly and relate what he "should" and "should not" do are usually those who only know him through reading the opinions of others of like mind who also like to find fault. As for Patterson not being "defended" as is Mayo, I would point out that Patterson isn't the primetimer. But, then, we all see situations differently. Actually, I never thought of Ashland as a "mecca" of talent of any kind- athletic or otherwise.

The boys and the girls decide the issue individually. One can vote to seed and the other to draw. There is absolutely no legitimate reason for Rose Hill or any other small school located in a district with two or more large schools to vote to seed. There is no justification for such a vote by the boys or by the girls. Period. My question in both this forum and in the boys's forum is as to whether Rose Hill agreed to seed for only a specific time period after which it went back to a draw unless three or more voted to renew the seed arrangement. I have still gotten no answer to this question. For a small school to vote to seed for only a certain time is not justifiable but, at least, it is not a death sentence. To vote to give, in reality and forever, absolute control of the issue to Boyd County and Ashland is unconscionable. I have continually opposed seeding, boys and girls, because it is not in the best interests of Rose Hill. I oppose it for many of the same reasons I opposed Rose Hill playing Ashland a couple of weeks ago. "Circumstances" have proven that I was right then. I am right now. If Rose Hill doesn't conduct its affairs according to its own best interests, just who will do it? Slick me once, shame on you. Slick me continually, shame on me.

Mayo Suspended 3 games
As a person, OJ Mayo is not unlike all other kids. He just happens to be a national figure who will soon become a very rich national figure. He has earned it and I, for one, am proud of what he has accomplished and how he has, in spite of the vultures, handled himself. There is an eight letter word that describes the attitude of many toward him- JEALOUSY.

The important question is not whether or not they vote each year. It is in regard to which method wins in case of a tie vote. Are the little schools stuck with eternal seeding because one of them showed a lack of wisdom?
-
64th District Pairings
For the best interests of Rose Hill, there is no legitimate reason for the boys or the girls to seed.

64th District Pairings
I realize that the vote to seed or not seed can take place each year. What I want to know is if the seed vote today was just for a period of time (like 4 or 5 years or revote each year or whatever) or was it open ended so as to require three to undue the seed. If it is the latter, none of us will live to see the result changed unless the makeup of the district is changed. If that is the case it was not a wise choice by the small school who voted to change the process. I want to know if the 64th District is seeded automatically until voted otherwise. All I want is a definitive answer without hedging and speculation. It is either permanent or it is temporary. Which is it?

How about after next year?

Is the seed situation for a given period or forever unless voted otherwise by three schools?

All-A Fans/Players: Which would you rather win? All-A Classic or your Sweet 16 Region
Winning a state championship involving about one-half of the schools in the Commonwealth is far superior to winning a regional championship involving a mere 16, plus or minus one or two, schools.

Yes, the starting time is 7:30 pm. And, although often ignored by present day English teachers and by those who allegedly prepared them to educate our youth, good grammar is important

Rose Hill vs. Fairview (tonight)
Emily Queen needs 37 points, I think, to become the all time leading scorer in the 16th Region. I would bet that this includes both girls and boys. Certainly a great accomplishment that should receive a little coverage around here.

Rose Hill vs. Fairview (tonight)
At Rose Hill. Laura Terry needs 11 points to reach 2,000.

Ashland at Elliot Co. Rescheduled Saturday Feb 10th
It will be interesting to see if the Friday schedule effects either team. According to the schedules, Elliott County plays Raceland at Sandy Hook and Ashland plays Greenup County at Ashland.

You are correct. However, from all indications, he called them to ask the players where they wanted to eat after the game.:thumb:
