I have seen Dakotah play since he first came to Rose Hill. Champion is correct. He does not get rattled. Possibly, like OJ did at times, he tries to do too much. He tries to take the whole game onto his shoulders. That is determination and leadership and certainly not being rattled. I would think his stock is rather high as is that of Chad and Alex.

Now, Frances, no one is saying the referees stole the game. Ashland won and they were clearly the better team tonight. It is not unusual for posters to point out the discrepency in foul shots particularly when it is 25 to 4. That is at least a material element in the game. That, along with Ashland's uncanny three point shooting (even McDavid hit two and Bonner hit one which probably has never happened before), Dakotah's off night shooting, and Chad's foul trouble were the differences in the game.

Wireman, you are truly a good man and a fine BGPer. Your opinions are always welcome and appreciated. However, I am of the opinion that you didn't attend the game.

Rose Hill played a zone defense for most of the game.

I respectfully disagree with your first paragraph but agree with your second paragraph. However, I still say, as I have said continually, Rose Hill is about a year away. They are very young and the win by their JV team is not without significance. Ninth-grader Quackenbush and seventh-grader Terry were very impressive. The Rose Hill seventh and eighth grade teams consistently beat Ashland's teams of the same grades. The future is enormously promising but it just isn't quite here yet.

As I have stated several times, for which I have been chastised by Rose Hillers and non Rose Hillers, I was against scheduling the game. I still feel that way and the outcome has nothing to do with it. Now, having said that, I am not particularly devastated by the outcome. Rose Hill hung close until Chad picked up his fourth foul. If most will recall, that is when the game really turned for Ashland. Chad started the fourth quarter but picked up his fifth foul with just a little under seven minutes left in the game. Any chance of winning was certainly gone then. Unlike the Raceland game, Dakotah, I thought, got some good shots. I don't think he was intimidated by McDavid whatsoever. The shots just didn't fall and, of course, some were rushed. That happens. I really thought that Matt would dominate Chad. He didn't although Matt played his usual fine game. Matt wears the wrong colors (in my opinion), but I still root for him and am pleased when he has a good game. Wilcox did a good job on Chad but Chad's foul situation and early exit contributed somewhat to that. Rose Hill, playing its even younger group, beat Ashland by 10 in the JV game. Ashland was clearly the better team tonight. Nonetheless, I think Ashlanders, even their vocal cheering section (which was a definite asset to them), realize that the next few years will quite possibly produce different results. So, in summary, the game shouldn't have been scheduled but, since it was, Ashland proved themselves to be a good, well coached team and Rose Hill sent a message about the not too distant future that I feel sure, from the comments that I heard from Ashland people, was heard.

Raceland has a good draw. I would think that their main concern will be to settle in and not get caught up in the atmosphere of the tournament. That is more of a problem than many might think particularly if you haven't been there for a while. They have very winnable first round and second round matchups. Most likely, NCC awaits in the third round andthat would be a difficult game. The path to the finals should be relatively easy for the tournament seasoned LCC and for that reason, among others, they are the clear favorite. But then, who knows? Few expected St. Mary to be in the finals last year.

Russell if it gets decent play from its guards. Otherwise, Raceland has a good chance on its home court.

LCA is the likely favorite and it would be hard to disagree.

If you check it out, you'll find that, other than scores of games, very few of these Rose Hill threads are started by Royalettes.

If the ones making the allegations are the same ones who make the district's decisions concerning reciprocity (see thread in Public/ Private Debates), I believe I would wait until the smoke clears before issuing convictions. We don't have any Solomons making the decisions.

I'll vouch for Devil58. He is a good man. Although he is a Russell partisan, I believe he puts his personal leanings aside when he is officiating. It would be good if all area officials followed his example in regard to their treatment of both teams and individuals. As for becoming a lawyer, likearock, I did actually consider it at one time.

Well, now we can all agree that likes2watch's oratory about the "derrogatory" comments during the jv game amount to "much ado about nothing". It would appear, from Devil58's description of what the referee told him that the comments were, in fact, good natured kidding. Only one with an agenda would interpret this in a negative way. In fact, if any other girl basketball player in this area had said these things, they would have been passed off as "cute". The fact that so much has been made of this non-incident reveals far, far more about the accusers than it does about the young lady. Although I waste my time in saying so, I must say that you should be ashamed to create controversy where none should exist. If the subject referee was offended by all of this or took it seriously, he/she has no business calling high school games. Obviously, like2watch, you have proven only one fact and that fact is that this thread should be closed for being irrelevant.

The poll was a wonderful idea because it brought a response from GIAT. We all miss GIAT. You can be sure that he has some strong opinions on the subject of the poll. On the other hand, he just may agree with me that the game is a mistake.

Well, Incognito, when I, an eye witness, say that "the coach handled the situation quite well", it is not heresay because it is a firsthand observation. Of course, it is also an opinion given by one who is not unbiased. Therefore, it is properly subject to interpretation. On the other hand, when you restate what someone else told you (a person who, most likely, was not unbiased either), that is clearly heresay. I don't believe that I have directly commented on the officiating one way or the other. I won't do so on BGP. I have merely defended a young girl and her coach from the criticism of those who have nothing but heresay upon which to base their opinions and their convicting statements. As for Dobson, the quote you attribute to him is good. However, I have learned to not pay much attention to nor put much faith in what Dobson and his bunch have to say.

All of a sudden, we are accepting a lot of heresay as fact, aren't we. But, then, on BGP who needs facts in order to convict? I was in attendance and I believe that the coach handled the "situation" quite well. I do agree that players, teams, coaches, and fans must earn respect. That also extends to referees.

Strange post- even from onetoya. What do "levels" have to do with anything? Your overreaction would lead me to believe that I have hit a nerve which really is of no surprise. As for the game, I am a realist with a good knowledge and memory of history. When you seek something that you think is something of value, you bargain. You do not surrender your principles.

I assume that you were not in attendance and I am surprised, but skeptical, that you "know" what "any other coach" would do. As I said earlier, you had to be there to believe it.

I will remain consistent and again state that the game is a mistake on the part of Rose Hill. I have stated my reasons before and they have not changed. The percentages are not by any stretch of reality favorable to Rose Hill. I normally agree with Rickyp's posts. However, I absolutely disagree with his #2 post above. Recent history, at all levels, indicates that his euphoria is wishful thinking and ill-advised. If somehow Rose Hill manages an upset win, it will not change my opinion whatsoever.

Don't get on Wireman, boys, she adds an "element" not provided by most BGPers. As for the game, for those who were there, no comment is needed. For those who weren't there, no comment would be sufficient.
