  1. Highlands travels to Union to face Cooper on Friday. The Birds have looked like a different team since the loss to Cov Cath. Cooper comes into the game at 4-1 after putting it on Great Crossing 40-0 last week. Who wins?
  2. Ugly game, but I love to see what Coach Hahn is doing at Newport. Quick turnaround for the Wildcats from where they were just a couple years ago. Hope to see their continued success.
  3. Lately, it has been the other way around with UK. They offer and then bigger schools suddenly become interested; a lot of their recruiting success can be contributed to that. The twins have been on UK's radar for a long, long time.
  4. I agree. I just think MSU will try to back up the Brinks truck for him.
  5. I'd expect MSU to come after Stoops hard for this job when it inevitably comes open.
  6. Coach Mueller is one of the most positive and motivating coaches I have ever been around and definitely ever played for; he had a way of critiquing your play so that he built you up to truly believe that you were way better than you actually were in reality... that confidence goes a long way. I would not describe him as a yeller or a screamer but don't get me wrong if you deserved it, he would undress you without thinking twice. He also had this weird ability to tell you "you sucked on that play" and not only would you agree with him but you thought it was your idea.
  7. I still don't understand why they played in the JV game to begin with. Numbers do not seem to be that thin at HHS. Are there really not enough sophomore and juniors to play JV? Was the concern really that great after losing in varsity to beat CCH in a JV game? IMO JV football, more than any level, is about development. Getting in the habit of playing frosh over sophomore or juniors on the JV level I fear could really hurt a programs depth as kids choose to move on rather than developing to a contributing player by their senior year.
  8. Schools like EKU and other FCS schools desperately NEED to schedule major D1 teams. If not, there athletic departments would disappear.
  9. The Raiders come to Ft. Thomas on Friday. This will be the 2nd time the two teams have faced each other already this year after scrimmaging just a few weeks ago. Who wins? What do you want to see out of each team? I could see this being a very competitive game. I don't like to pick against the Birds but this one has me nervous.
  10. Congratulations to former Boyle Co. star Cole Lanter on earning a scholarship! Love to see a kid who bet on himself get rewarded. Hope to see him getting some time sooner rather than later for the cats!
  11. Completely agree. He promotes better than anyone in the state right now and therefore attracts the best of the best to his program. The only coach close, IMO, is Coach Haddix at BC. As long as Coach McPeek stays at FD, I believe they will be the premier program in the sate for the foreseeable future. I know that is a bold statement with X, Trinity, BG, Boyle, etc. but I just see them rising to a level that Trinity was at with Beatty.
  12. A handful of the previous staff members followed BW to Newport and now to CC. Others got out of coaching completely; similar to a number of coaches since Coach Sphire has taken over at HHS. I have also heard that paid positions dried up. With all that said, I think if you asked any coach around, they would tell you that there are not many people knocking on the door looking to coach. That leaves you to do the best with what you can.
  13. Why is there always an excuse? If the "normal" starting QB is playing WR for varsity then he isn't the normal starting QB for SK Frosh and will never be. You play who is on your roster and who is on the opposing roster. The coulda, woulda, shoulda, act is getting old.
  14. Both the Camels and Birds look to bounce back after disappointing week 2 losses. Who wins and why? What are you looking forward to seeing out of each team?
  15. The man runs the program. You cannot be serious with this post. It quite literally is his job to control/teach everything you just described.
  16. Extremely disappointed. The lack of discipline is frustrating. You are HHS, be better than that. The last couple of years the Birds WR/TE core has been described as an "embarrassment of riches"; and rightfully so. That room is incredibly talented. I can count on one had how many times the ball was thrown across the line of scrimmage last night. With the run game that the Birds were getting with Giesler and Benke, drawing LBs and Ss to the LOS, how on earth do you not utilize play action or really any variety of play calling to get the ball to guys like Class, Matteoli, Hinegardner, Schneider, Surrey, etc. down the field. The playbook last night was power/counter, QB power/draw, zone read (throwing a lot of bubbles), and screen passes. That is it. I truly believe that HHS is still the more talented team. The players were not put in a position to be winners last night and EE, like a good coach, took advantage of it. Disappointing. I will be interested to see how certain people spin this to be "someone else's fault" rather than looking in the mirror. .
  17. Waiting and waiting for the Birds to throw the ball down field...
  18. I am with you. I have been to a lot of high school football games in NKY and Eastern KY and I have hardly seen anything to get worked up over. To me, this seems like an extreme measure to take. Unfortunately, we live in a culture today of extremes but that is probably for another thread. We can't let the actions of a small minority have such a large impact on the masses.
  19. Sounds like he should be beating up on some Colonels in no time! Love it. Bringing things back to the game... Last go around the Birds turned the ball over 5 times and still were able to win at CCH. I think if the Birds protect the ball and control the LOS they win by 10.
  20. I'd love to see Tayden sling it! It is a big ask for a sophomore but I agree that it is good to see the best 11 on the field at all times; even if that means playing guys both sides of the ball.
  21. I would expect to see the package of Rio at QB and Brody elsewhere used as a wrinkle package all year. I would not anticipate Litmer being used extensively unless the game is in hand or an injury. I could be wrong, but I get the impression that H. Sphire wants to get Rio some seasoning/reps under his belt this year and will pick and choose when based on how he sees things going. Then Litmer will have the keys to the castle next year. I personally like using the package as wrinkle as it makes defenses prepare for it ahead of time and Brody on the outside is a mismatch against just about everybody. Just ask the Lex Cath DBs.
  22. I tend to agree. I can't remember the last time there was a sell out at HHS.
