I figured one thread, like we do in the football forum, is in order here.

The Cats have already picked up two nice players from the portal.

And here is the thread for our upcoming practice game with Iowa:

Just make it fun and exciting, fan friendly and lots of throwing and scoring.

From ukwildcats.com the Cats have added six players from the Transfer Portal:

Tanner Bowles, Offensive Lineman, 6-5, 300, Sr-Tr, Glasgow, Ky. (Alabama/Glasgow)

Marques Cox, Offensive Lineman, 6-5, 305, Sr-Tr, Peoria, Ill. (Northern Illinois/Peoria)

Ray Davis, Running Back, 5-9, 215, Sr-Tr, San Francisco, Calif. (Vanderbilt/Temple/Blair Academy)

Jantzen Dunn, Defensive Back, 6-0, 185, So-Tr, Bowling Green, Ky. (Ohio State/South Warren)

Jonquis “JQ” Hardaway, Defensive Back, 6-3, 190, So-Tr, Columbus, Ga. (Cincinnati/Central Phenix City, Ala.)

Devin Leary, Quarterback, 6-1, 215, Sr-Tr, Sicklerville, N.J. (North Carolina State/Timber Creek)

The article gives a nice breakdown on each player, they all sound pretty good to me.

The new college football!  Who knows where it will lead but the transfer portal puts the athletes first and I like that a lot.

Lots of throwing and scoring won’t happen with Stoops. No matter who is the OC, he always will still pull back the reins on the offense from letting any OC truly open it up.

I guess you are probably right, but I’m just wishing it might change this time around with Coen. Leary is very capable of being a bunch of fun to watch slinging the rock around.

Trust me, I am in complete agreement with you in wanting to see them open it up. That’s one of the things that holds them back, and I do think it’s more Stoops not allowing his OCs to truly open it up.

I honestly am in the minority in Coen too, and don’t think he is this savior and this amazing OC as other seem to think. I don’t think he was much different than the other OCs in the things he was doing or should say allowed to do under Stoops, as the scheme was still basically the same as always.  He just happened to have probably the most talent to work with. He had a good Oline, good running backs, a top WR, and a QB that at least talent wise has first round talent. The overall scheme though was very similar to what we have always seen under Stoops.

My prediction for next year will be that Coen will open up the offense more with Leary throwing 25-30 times per game, running more screen passes, more reverses, and scoring more than Ky has scored in recent years. There will be added pressure on Stoops to let his OC work and this guy can flat out coach some offense.

It's funny, I read this post Thursday morning and less than an hour later Stoops was on the radio saying that he wanted to open up the offense, throw more and create more excitement on that side of the ball.

I sure hope that is the case, and him not just saying that to make fans happy for now. Then going back to what he knows once the season starts. The greatest college coach of all time in Saban figured out he has to adjust and open things up about 4 to 5 years ago. It’s time for Stoops to figure that out too.

True but over the last 6 years UK has had three of the best RB's in school history. No reason to throw it around just for the sake of throwing it.

Stoops has said for years that in a perfect world they would be 50/50 run to pass. I don't think it's just lip service I think that's what he wants to do.

Plenty of teams have had great running backs and still opened up their offense. Stoops has been here a long time, and the offense literally has looked the same no matter who the OC had been in regards to more conservative type of play calling. That hints more at its more Stoops and what he prefers and keeps his OC reined in from opening it up.

Which I will say that style is probably what UK needed early to get the program turned around, especially when the defense was poor early on in his tenure. However, probably should have truly started to open it up a couple of years ago. Hopefully what he is saying is true and they truly do open it up more.

They play both Alabama and Georgia next season. So I`m thinking 7and 5 . If they go 8 and 4 I think it would be quite a feat.
