We are so much on the same page it is wild haha. Don't get me started on the misuse of Huddy. It was criminal and an embarrassment. He should be in the record books at HHS and should have gone down as one of the best to do it.

I asked that question earlier or maybe in a previous thread but never got a response. I believe Benke plays baseball but not sure about Bottom. If one of them chooses to not play baseball and do spring football, I would have to believe that would give them a big leg up on winning the QB job. It is purely speculation/opinion on my part, but I think the best team move for HHS is for Noon to play safety and all over the place on offense.

It would not surprise me at all if Noon didn't even take reps at QB during spring football. I think it is a two horse race between Benke and Bottom.

That is impressive. I haven't followed all that closely but it seems like they have been struggling this year but building around her could mean good things for the future.

What grade is Green in? She has put up some big numbers lately.

Trust me I am with you 100% and am backing Coach Sphire. The culture change has been big and positive. I just know if I were coaching I wouldn’t want that many dads in my ear.

That is very true. And a couple of the dads on staff are… My concern is that no matter what a dad says, putting that father instinct/bias aside is impossible.

The amount of dads on staff really worries me. I think they are up to 7 coaches with current, or soon to be (incoming freshman) players on the team. Some of the other hires just do not make sense to me. Not sure what they “bring to the table”.

Definitely not. I am over the idea that a QB at the high school level couldn’t play both sides of the ball. If you are the best at a position, any position, you should play and play a lot at that position. This is especially true at HHS when you have 2, some would argue 3, legit options at QB.

I don’t want to throw a young man under the bus by saying he doesn’t have a shot; especially when I have no say in anything and it is just based on what I have seen. Sorry. I will say that I genuinely hope all three are awesome players for HHS. I think you and I are on similar situations in that we just want the program to be back to where it should be! GO BORDS

Could not possible agree more with you. Really worried about how this staff is being developed. Really surprised at how Coach Sphire is doing things in this regard. One of the very few criticisms I have of how he’s running things, but this is getting bad.

Let’s be honest here… as awesome as a problem as it is to have (2 legit options IMO) Junior isn’t going to have the slightest say in who is the QB of the Birds this fall.

A friend of mine who played at CCH during that time says the same thing. He also swears up and down that Rodenberg is responsible for the immediate implosion of the CCH football program right after he left. He claims that Rodenberg knew he had two really good classes and he put all his eggs in that basket and did zero to develop anyone else or the feeder program.

I’ve always thought Dixie was one of the more underperforming schools in NKY. I get that open enrollment in Kenton Co. and Beechwood and CCH hurt them but there is still a lot of talent walking the halls of Dixie. For the sake of NKY football, I hope Coach Burke can bring Dixie to their potential!

I am all about the home experience too. I enjoy going to a game every now and then because experiencing the crowd and fanfare is fun but the viewing experience at home far exceeds that, IMO. Not to mention I find going to a game to be fiscally irresponsible with beer and other concession prices. As for the game, I want the Bengals to win. I feel like there is a "team of destiny" vibe going on right now. WHO DEY!

Outside of just being blatantly jealous of him, I’ve never understood some of the hatred TB got over his career.

Thanks for the info. Cronin is an interesting idea. He seems pretty frustrated at UCLA and I don't know if it would take that much to draw him back to this area. I think there are a lot of UC fans wishing they would have treated him with a lot more respect and probably didn't realize how well they had it.

Deuce, you seem very connected to the UL fanbase. What is your feeling on who the fanbase wants and why? Is that different than who YOU want?

Agreed. If you have to petition for a job, or to save your job, I think the writing might be on the wall that it isn't a good fit. "That's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em".

Sure. The points that stood out the most to me were his discussion of his time playing with Byron Leftwich. He described him as a tremendous leader and someone you just wanted to go to war with. He said that of all the players and coaches he has been around that Leftwich has far and away the highest football IQ. He said it doesn't surprise him one bit that Leftwich is going NFL HC interviews and is positive he will be successful. McPeek and Maggard then spent a good amount of time discussing some differences in high school football/college football today than when he played (and especially when Maggard played). They both came to the consensus that the type of athlete that is playing OL and DL has been one of the biggest differences. Those positions are just just "fat guys" anymore; but instead tremendous athletes with leaner bodies. He used Jager Burton, among others, as an example. Burton is 305-310 lbs but can move and has great feet with a relatively low body fat percentage. McPeek explained how important the changes in the off season programs have been to developing athletes. He really stressed that if you want to be competitive you have to have a great off season program that develops players physically. They finished up with some discussion of recruiting and how it is changing with the transfer portal. McPeek explained that nothing is really changing for the blue chip guys but it is kind of delaying the lower level recruits because schools are waiting to see what they could get in the portal before offering. Overall, a really good interview. I really like Maggard and how much he promotes KY high school football.

Freddie Maggard interviewed Coach McPeek this week on the KSR Depth Chart podcast. Really great interview that got into his time Russelville, Marshall, the state of high school football in KY, and college recruiting. Highly recommend giving it a listen if you have time.

I selfishly hope that he stays and plays next year because I think Cal is putting together a really special class and who knowns who he could add in the portal. But if he is going to be a top 5 pick no one should fault him for leaving. That would be life changing money for him and his family. My hope is that situations like this lead to players being able to go out of high school.
