I wonder if Beechwood would of played a team from Kentucky vs. Ohio early in the season where would the numbers fall for them then. It’s also too bad Beechwood didn’t beat Cov Cath to help boost their RPI, they had the opportunity to do so, but ran out of gas playing so many players both ways.

Kudos to both teams last night, both great programs! It’s good to have local rivalries regardless who may be playing one another here in Northern Kentucky. Turning the page I hope all Northern Kentucky teams and fans pull together for each other and support each respective team here in Northern Kentucky from Class 1A thru Class 6A. Northern Kentucky has a lot to offer this Fall going into state playoffs and let’s hope we have as many schools from Northern Kentucky representing us at Kroger Field for state championships. Again, Thank you Beechwood and Cov Cath for a fun night of Football.

BW’s QB had been awesome to watch play this year of the games I was able to watch.

Thus far in NKY there hasn’t been better passing receiving combos than BW’s. Give credit to BW’s lineman holding off defenders for the QB and receivers to do their creativity of getting open and catching the football.

CCH May have a better game plan slowing down the game and wearing down BW’s line than Dixie or SK. Yes, BW probably has more 2-Way players as well. But Chartman is right, if CCH doesn’t handle BW’s receivers it will be a closer game than what most of you are giving BW credit going into Friday’s game. I see CCH’s secondary similar to Dixie’s and SK’s. Question is will CCH have a hardcore rusher such as Rice was for Dixie or SK’s defensive line was against BW the last two weeks have been.

So does your RPI rating hurt if you play HS teams outside of Kentucky?

There’s a HS in NKY where I noticed loud music in between offensive plays while the away team was playing offense. Yes, it was bothersome for the fans to witness, but am glad the away team secured the win.

I’m excited to also see Lloyd HS Freshman play. Having a good coaching program at the youth in place and a solid HS Coaching staff will pay dividends for the program, plus the upgrades at Lloyd are great. I’m sure they’ll be making noise this year and years to come.

Ryle, Cooper, SK and Highlands should have solid Freshman teams. There will be good games amongst all these teams adding Cov Cath and BW into the mix as well.

Fryman’s birthdate sets him in the right class as a traditional freshman should be in.

Anyone have access where the Draw is taking place and will the meeting be streamed live?

Congrats to Newport. Have they ever won the 9th Region before?

Regardless who wins tonight and wish them both the best, I hope they represent the 9th Region well. I like seeing teams earlier in the season and throughout the season go out and play the best competition throughout the state as well as other states to become battled tested for the opportunity the winner of the 9th Region will have next week.

Both look strong, but who would play better at Rupp in the coming week? Who is equipped more to go further in the state tournament?

Most battle tested team in 9th Region showed up tonight! They played well.

Kudos to Mr. Kelley’s book “Legacies of Kentucky Mountain Basketball”, I tried tracking one down and even went to Amazon, but no luck purchasing one. This thread of Kentucky’s high school historically gyms is awesome. Even though I’m a Kentucky kid by heart with so many memories of high school basketball in the bluegrass, I had to live in Indiana for a few years traveling the Hoosier state and like Kentucky, they have some awesome and BIG gyms still standing. I believe a book was written by someone from the Indianapolis Star in the late 1990’s Earle 2000’s about Indiana’s high school gyms, that’s another book I believe each of you would like to read. with that shared, if you all know of anyone else that has written such of a book in Kentucky like Mr. Kelley had done please share. Please keep this thread going. It’s really enjoyable.

Campbell County had a good game plan, kept good game tempo and knocked down good shots. When Cov Cath would start to make a run time to time the Campbell County coach called time outs at the right times. Cov Cath did not shoot well at all in the first half as well as had several turnovers. However; in the 4th quarter they were able to turn up the tempo with defense that turned into big shots on the offensive end. Ipsaro and Hussey scored well and Johnson had some important minutes that helped Cov Cath finish out with the win.

It was a good game. As for peaking, you must not be following CCH basketball this year and just assume that because it was a close game, Cooper shot very well behind the 3-point line and rebounded well. Plus, Sully is a good coach and prepares well for big games.

Reed brothers are fun to watch, they play well together and space themselves really well on the court. They play with a swagger and attitude that’s good. They are a good force, but I’d love to see them take some of the energy they provide on the court away from the officials. If they could take that part of their game and put more into themselves and their teammates more positively could get them another edge, complaining to the officials often doesn’t get you no where.

Cov Cath got no love in the tournament last year, from a team perspective nor an individual perspective.

Being a fan of basketball and supporting the Northern Kentucky teams I suspect Cov Cath was probably not asked to come back this year because they won it last year. From observing at a distance last year the folks in Louisville probably didn’t like a team from Northern Kentucky winning.

The better team won tonight……congrats to CCH Colonels.

Beechwood has a combined 6th and 7th grade team and also a combined 8th and 9th grade team.

Exciting to hear about the future stars of Ryle and the team. This leads to next question, will Ryle be able to compete with Trinity and St. X in the coming years so they can bring home a 6A state title back to Union? I hope they make it happen. Pressure on the Ryle HS coaching staff to make this happen.

As good as QB’s may be, keep in mind the Offensive Line helps elevate each of these respective QB’s. Very proud of the NKY QB’s, but let’s not forget about the Offensive Line that makes each of these players even more special. Your only as good as the O’line allows you to be!
