Congrats to Newport.  Have they ever won the 9th Region before?

I believe 2010 was the last time. They put an unexpected beatdown on Holmes that year.

@Kentucky Windage

@Runcible Owl just saw your comment in the update thread. Was down in Henry County with NO phone service LOL!

They also won the 10th Region in 1925, 1932, 1935, & 1936.

Congrats to Coach Snapp and the Wildcats. This was one heck of a game and the Wildcats found a way to make one more play.

Congrats also to the Jags and Coach Sully. This was a team that simply didn’t quit regardless of all the bumps in the road they went through. They simply didn’t quit and they should hold their heads high!

Good luck to Newport down at State! Go represent the 9th and bring it home!!

Thank you for starting the update thread @Adrian Woj Burner.

Newport  10-11-14-10 • 44

Announced attendance ~ 7,000+.

Final official stats from James Weber ~ @JWeberSports

Was a very good game. Big time crowd for both teams, very loud towards the end.  The last shot Newport made is an all time classic. Did Cooper attempt a 3 pointer in the second half? And did Cooper switch to a 1-3-1 zone in the 4th quarter? Both teams played extremely hard and neither backed down from the challenge.

Congrats to Newport on the region, good luck down state.

Great game by both teams. Mutual respect shown by both throughout the game. It’s a game you hate to see either team lose.

After watching this tournament this past week, there is a lot of young talent in the region. It’s going to be fun to watch these kids grow over the next few years.

Wow what a great game! Both teams left it on the floor, and the crowd for both sides was great too! Newport just happened to make one more play. Congrats to them on the win! Now go win State!

Congrats to Cooper on a great run! You overcame injuries that most teams wouldn’t have been able to overcome, and was one shot away from winning the region.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see both of these teams back in the finals next year!

? The Wildcats improve to 28-6.

? Newport will play Lyon County, a 76-72 winner over Hopkinsville, in the first round of the Sweet 16.

? That looks to be an outstanding game. A chance to see the King in waiting, Travis Perry too.

? Great job on tonight's livestream by the @859Radio team of Mark Whery and Coach Bert Richey. Nice post game interviews with Newport players and Coach Snapp.

Surprise bonus after the game - a brief chat with former Newport coach Stan Arnzen's daughter who was a Wildcat cheerleader when her dad's team won the 1962 title. Loved it!

859 Sports Radio covered every game of both the girls' and boys' 9th Region tournaments. The crew will be covering the Sweet 16s this year too.
