About as odd as them going to him during the game and not their head coach . There is a reason he was offering to pay double for court-side tickets. Not sure many other 9th region coaches would go for it.

Kinney is his stepson and Turner is his nephew.

I hope I’m wrong but I’d guess the chances of both Turner and Kinney playing their final 3 years at Newport are slim to none.

Well they all could leave and go to Holmes or Holy Cross, who knows.  Are you going to have a job tomorrow, who know?  Enjoy the moment.

He does have strong connections, and I wouldn’t rule out them going that route to push them as hard as possible. Drew is that type of guy, and like many said coached their 8th grade AAU team to 38-0. This was while playing in the hardest circuit in the country with nky guys like Kinney, Turner, and Harney. He’s great for these young men!

This is the same Andrew Mitchell that walked on at Xavier, do I have that correct?

Yes correct

Man o Man.  The 9th region trophy probably hasn't even made it to the Newport trophy case yet and the Sweet 16 first game has not even been played and the subject gets brought up of kids leaving the program?????  SMH

How about we just sit back and celebrate the 9th Region champions and pull for them to make a run and hopefully bring home another trophy to NKY before bringing up the break up of a young and talented team.  Coach Snapp has done a great job so far and this is the last thing I am sure that's on his mind.

Just my two cents....

If the guy is a good, all around role model, then that's great for these kids. If this is just about basketball, and he's their handler, then I'm not sure how I feel about it. Kids these days need people in their corners that have the kids best interest at heart. Hope they stay at Newport, as I'd love to see them progress over the next 3 years.

I mean he is the step father of one and uncle of other, so I’d surely hope it’s not the latter. Anytime I’ve been around or spoken to the guy he seems like a great person for kids to be around and learn from.

I’ll say this. I was blown away at how those kids look for coaching from the stands and not their bench. It spoke volumes watching the buzzer sound and every player running to him to celebrate, and not the bench. That being said, I’m old school. Guess it’s the new way……..

I think that tells us everything we need to know, they believe in him and he believes in them. Nobody sees the blood sweat and tears they all put in together. They wanted that moment with each other, all the congrats in the world to them!
