The current classification is for 2025-26 isn't it? I think they would have to wait until 2027 to move down.

They were extremely deep last season. FD is definitely one of the favorites. That's a pretty good top 3.

I think Somerset is too good up front on both sides of the ball. The Greyhounds will do some damage with their speed. But I think they'll have a lot of trouble with the Briar Jumpers ground game. I'll take Somerset 35-14. Looking forward to making a pit stop at Jerry's on the trip. This will be the first game I've gotten to watch in person this season.

This is the weakest Southwestern team since 2013, when they went 1-9. This team is likely headed for that same record. Belfry won't have any trouble in this one, Pirates big 42-7.

Danville did make back to back state championship appearances as recently as 2016-17, winning the championship in 2017. I'm a Somerset fan, so I'm not much of a Danville fan, but they are a lock.

I think Belfry has to be in there. Coach Haywood left a heck of a legacy. You can move Danville and Boyle County into the locks. If a program has double digit championships, they're a blueblood. Corbin is a possibility. Ashland Blazer is in the all-time top 100 list for wins and has multiple state championships. Somerset only has the single state championship since the playoffs started in 1959, but they have been playing since 1909 and are in the all-time top 100 for wins as well. They also have a few "claimed" state championships from before schools were classed and playoffs held.

Somerset travels to Paris to take on the undefeated Greyhounds on the orange turf. The Briar Jumpers are 2-1, and are fresh off of a in over crosstown rival Southwestern. Paris is 3-0, with all their wins coming against fellow 1A schools. The Greyhounds are in their first year under former EKU Offensive Coordinator Dane Damron, and have lit up the scoreboard with 127 points in 3 games. Will the Greyhound's speed and passing attack be able to make this a track meet? Or will Somerset's defense continue to build on a pair of strong outings the last 2 weeks?

The twins weren't on Corbin's roster last season. They were already at UK.

They had 2-3 really weak middle school teams in a row. They didn't seemed to have developed as they've moved to high school. A lot of the middle school results don't foretell high school results, but they might have in this case.

Somerset just pushed Southwestern around at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The Briar Jumpers are coming along nicely, and Hughes seems settled in at quarterback. The Warriors are in for a long season. I don't see more than 2 wins on their schedule, if that.

I haven't seen a collapse like this since Kentucky went into the locker room at halftime up 35-10 over Southern Mississippi in 2016.

As much as I would like to see Somerset put a running clock on the Warriors, they might as well call this one.

Southwestern makes the short trip across town to take on Somerset for the first time since 2014. Somerset leads the all-time series vs the Warriors 8-7. Southwestern comes into the game 0-2 and badly needing a win. They have been competitive in their 2 losses, dropping a 12-6 decisions on the road at Barren County, and falling 21-19 at home to Campbell County. PATs, whether kicking or going for 2, have been a bugaboo early on for Southwestern, as they have only a single PAT on their 5 scores on the season. That really came back to haunt them against Campbell County in the 2 point loss. Southwestern would rather keep the ball on the ground, though they did throw the ball 15 times against Barren County. While they did pick up 90 yards through the air, they also threw 2 interceptions. Somerset, meanwhile, will be coming into the game at 1-1. The Briar Jumpers lost their opener to South Laurel 33-22 at home, before travelling to South Laurel to defeat East Ridge in the South Laurel Bowl 35-16. The score of the East Ridge game was not as close as it appears at first glance. The Briar Jumpers raced out to a 35-0 lead in the first minute of the 2nd quarter when the running clock kicked in. Somerset's starting quarterback Shannon Lofton injured his knee against South Laurel and was lost for the season. Kris Hughes moved into the quarterback spot against East Ridge and looked more comfortable after a full week of practice leading into the game. With this being the first meeting between Somerset and one of the county schools since 2014 emotions will be high, and the stands should be packed. Will the Warriors get their first win of the season, and tie the all-time series? Or will the Jumpers protect their home field and move to 2-1?

35-0, with a running clock by agreement, in the 2nd quarter. Lots of reserves in the game. Xavier Wooldridge has moved from wide receiver to take over at quarterback for the Jumpers.

I only saw highlights, but I was really impressed with the Scotties. Barren looks to be a very good team as well. But I'll take Glasgow to win this one. That big pay ability will be the difference against a good defense.

Somerset travels east on Highway 80 to play East Ridge in the opener of the 2025 South Laurel Bowl at 530pm on Friday. The Briar Jumpers are coming off of a disastrous 33-22 loss in their opening game against the host of this Bowl Game, South Laurel. A loss to a veteran Cardinals team wasn't the disaster They also may have potentially lost their starting quarterback, Shannon Lofton. The sophomore went out of the game in the 4th quarter with what looked like a leg injury, and did not return. To further complicate the situation, the second string quarterback had left the team earlier in the week. The Jumpers will have a tough decision to make: Do they play their main playmaker Kris Hughes at quarterback? That would put the ball in the hands of their best offensive player on every play. But it would also make it easier for the defense to key on him. I'm addition to the loss of Lofton, the defense, which was thought to be the strength of the team was shredded by the Cardinals senior quarterback Mason Griffin, who passed for 316 yards, and 3 touchdowns against Somerset, connecting on 29 out of 34 attempts. Whatever his position is Friday, the Briar Jumpers will be depending on Hughes more than ever. East Ridge, meanwhile, will come into the game 1-0 after winning their opener at home against Morgan County 22-6. In the Warriors win they rolled to 299 yards on the ground on 46 carries. The different players for East Ridge went over 80 yards rushing, led by Freshman quarterback Canaan Ramey. Ramey finished with 95 yards on only 13 carries. He added 112 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air. Both of those touchdowns went to sophomore receiver Ayden Mullins, who hauled in 4 receptions for 86 yards and those 2 scores. East Ridge will give Somerset's reeling defense a lot of threats try and stop. Does Somerset get things figured out, and get into the win column, or do the Warriors run their record to 2-0?

The early word on the injury isn't encouraging. Looked to be on a late hit (that wasn't called) as well. The backup left the team earlier this week. So I'm not sure if Hughes will have to be the quarterback going forward, or if they'll try Decker or Wooldridge. Tough start for the Jumpers.
